There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

OP’s next post:

I flipped my new mower. :(

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 26 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Nah i tried hard haha needed to make sure it's safe you know

[–] FridaVanMercury@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You gotta! So what was your longest wheelie on it?

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 10 points 4 weeks ago

Got about 4 meters. I think with some practice could go further maybe.

Being zero turn, when the front comes up i fall away from the handles as it all leans back causing me to come off the acceleration. So getting the balance is hard

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 19 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

As an old medic. It's been my experience if you do tip/roll one of those larger mowers, you don't get to post about it.

****I did 2 fatality calls like that.

[–] ArchAengelus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Also, OPs mower doesn’t appear to have a roll bar, so if it rolls on him, it’s not getting off until it’s done.

A roll bar would keep it so you only get to lay on your back when you flip, instead of the mower sitting on your head.

Yeah missed a trick didn't have my akubra on unfortunately since I wanted to mow with my noise cancelling headphones on and they don't fit over it like they do a cap

[–] Enzy@feddit.nu 10 points 4 weeks ago

[–] rowansprig@leminal.space 2 points 4 weeks ago

[–] Creat@discuss.tchncs.de 14 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

The picture proves this isn't dull. Checkmate?

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 8 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah but it's mowing grass and I feel that fits in

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 12 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I think the shades, the mustache and the rest of the guy fit very well as a full character. Could be a game, movie, video, photo.

Imagine if it grew it instead. Be a waste of money then

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 8 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

I'd love to have a big enough garden to cut the grass with a cool little lawn-mowing car thingy.

I cut my grass by hand with what basically amounts to "a big pair of scissors" :)

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 9 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (2 children)

I have a friend who did it with a scythe for the excercise and definitely not because of his high school goth phase coming back out.

And then he got a mower because he realized the muscle powered past sucks, actually, engines are great.

[–] fakeman_pretendname@feddit.uk 5 points 4 weeks ago

Oh, I fully support a powered mower, it's just where I live now has less than 2m² of grass :)

[–] horsesaysweird@feddit.org 2 points 4 weeks ago

Using a scythe (scything?) is awesome. It takes some time to figure out, but once you do it is extremely satisfying and actually not very exhausting. The hard part is keeping the damn thing sharp.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 2 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah i never used too until i moved an hour from town its about 60 kms so lands cheap

[–] silver@das-eck.haus 7 points 4 weeks ago
[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

The zero turns are a ton of fun. Just buy some extra bearings for the front wheels, everyone loves lifting the front wheels off the ground, nobody loves the front wheels getting all loose and flappy. They're usually easy to replace though.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 4 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah luckily I'm a diesel mechanic so fixing shit is my forte,

Im also "responsible" so probably won't be doing any more wheelies.

Just wanted to make sure I couldn't flip. Just in case the boy gets on it and works out the controls before he's responsible enough. But let's be serious he won't be until he's 30 cause I sure as shit am only barely there haha

[–] trk@aussie.zone 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Hustler?

Seems overkill for what looks like maybe 4m² of grass in a paddock of dirt and dust mind you.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 4 points 4 weeks ago

Yeah hustler,

We're at the end of our dry season, and haven't really had rain in 5 months.

By there end of next month it all be growing.

There's 4 other paddocks to get done too

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago
[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago (5 children)

That's awesome.

However, I have a legit question. I'm sure zero point turn mowers are more efficient and easier to use, no but don't they look goofy as hell? I liken it to a recumbent bike vs a normal bike. Sure it may be easier to do, but wouldn't you feel stupid using it? I know I shouldn't care what other people think, not when I got a new riding mower last year, I just couldn't bring myself to get a zpt mower.

Proceed with the down votes...

[–] plaztek@piefed.ca 14 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It's a lawn mower, not a sports car. Who cares what it looks like?

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

A man can't look smashing while standing next to his lawnmower and wearing a polo, cargo shorts, and sketcher/New Balance tennis shoes if that mower don't look clean and sharp also.

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I think that riding mowers look goofy. They’re like a toy tractor. You have a grown ass man riding a power wheels tractor!

That’s on top of the fact they do a worse job in twice the time! One of these is made for drinking beer and one is for getting the job done.

But that’s just my opinion.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah really can't have a beer on a zero turn, unless you're pulling up every 5v minutes for a mouthful.

Just hook in get it done then have beers after

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 4 weeks ago

Just hook in get it done then have beers after

This is how I like doing it anyways. The beer is the reward for a job well done.

[–] Sanguine@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Fellas are you trying to look cool on your mowers or am I doing it wrong?

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You should ALWAYS strive to look cool on your mower. Why else are you wearing those cargo shorts?

[–] Sanguine@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 weeks ago

Hauling stuff and things.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 2 points 4 weeks ago

I went zero turn since I have other paddocks with trees etc and they're so much better for zipping around obstacles etc.

There main downside of them is you can't have a tin in one hand while you mow the grass. But when you're cutting around trees and fences, the less piss you're consuming the better.

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago (4 children)

They are if all you want is a larger lawnmower. I use a little JD 1023r as a lawnmower. But it also has to do things like mount a landscape rake to a 3 point hitch and even a 6' blade for road maintenance. And move things like small wagons and trailers. Some people put front end loaders and snowblowers on them too. Not something you can do with a zero turn.

You might ought to raise the deck a little. Ain't no grass left.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 2 points 4 weeks ago

Was none really anyway, we're in the dry season its all mostly dead.

There were some tall bits but rains are coming so I wanted to cut them fling the seeds etc and get some spread hopefully.

The ground is more rock then anything too, so maybe next year get some top soil but see how the run off goes this year

[–] solitaire404@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 weeks ago

Leave some puss for the rest of us.

I can't do a wheelie in my commuter machine.

[–] weps@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I dunno

can it lift stuff kinda like a forklift?

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 3 points 4 weeks ago

Unfortunately no,

One day I want to buy a tractor with fork tines bucket and slasher, Unfortunately that shit is real expensive
