I took a picture of you taking a picture of your monitor.

Not a healthy tree, judging by the shadow

[–] Steve@startrek.website 18 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I bet it lost its top half.

Theres a straight line shadow that might be a power line directly overhead.

[–] DownByLaw@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] Carrot@lemmy.today 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think they meant the shadow line running parallel with the sidewalk, a few inches from the curb

[–] DownByLaw@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks for pointing that out. I was staring at this image for a long time looking for that shadow.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

If it's any consolation, it took me an embarrassingly long time to find it after reading the comment explaining where it is in detail

[–] Colloidal@programming.dev 4 points 1 week ago

I think that's beyond minoxidil.

[–] BeelzebubEiNukuKoskaan@piefed.social 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That Volkswagen has air only in the top part of the tire.

Looks like a flat to me, as a fine connoisseur of pieces of shit that sit out side of the drive with a flat for months on end.

Also lighting looks consistent.

[–] BeelzebubEiNukuKoskaan@piefed.social 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah it is flat, I was being silly.

And yeah, looks like its been sitting there for a long while. Also looks like the bonnet is open a bit, probably has some Volkswagen feature going on and as a result is now dead.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh don't let me stop you from being silly. I think these days it's more important than ever. Also, my hackles are perpetually raised for slop. And it makes enjoyment of cool things harder than ever.

Oh don't worry, I enjoy being silly and if people think I'm being weird for it, I enjoy it even more.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dunno why my first thought was the Psygnosis logo LOL.

[–] jaaake@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Hello fellow old

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sorta looks like a Lāhainā Noon.

[–] Fuckswearwords@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Ha I thought of this picture too

[–] OccamsRazer@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

They probably cut off the top of the tree so it wouldn't interfere with the power line above it. You can see the shadow of the power line.

Don't leave us hanging OP, show us the actual tree!

Lahaina Noon

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s fine, it’s just got a tonsure.

[–] prex@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago

An upvote for answering the first question that comes to mind and a comment for tonsure (appropriate username too)

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

shadow of the erdtree

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

I’m going to need to see a picture of this tree because I have doubts.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 3 points 1 week ago

Looks like a bunch of trees groing on a teeny tiny itty bitty little planet.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Where is this? Is Figo common in the US or Europe? This looks US based on the sidewalk and power lines, but not sure you see figo there.

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Gotta be close to the equatorial with a shadow like that

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Another reply suggested Mexico. That or elsewhere in Central America makes sense.

But for the shadow, wouldn’t that depend on the season? Couldn’t you get that at a wide range of latitudes?

[–] porkloin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

As others have already said, no, direct overhead sun actually doesn’t happen in a sizable chunk of the world. But I’ll add some personal experience:

I’ve lived at northern latitudes my whole life and two things are always weird when I visit equatorial regions: 1) experiencing true “noon” or true overhead sun 2) the incredibly short sunsets. I also always end up getting fucking roasted by sunburn on vacation, not understanding the power of tropical overhead sun’s radiation intensity. Even if I know it intellectually, I never remember it well enough to avoid getting burned because I can be outside at home in the sun for a lot longer.

[–] MintyFresh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

If you look on a globe, in addition to the equator, you'll see two other lines labeled tropics. These lines represent where on earth, as the planet shifts on its axis through the seasons, the sun is directly overhead at each solstice. Everything north or south of the tropics has noons at less than 90⁰ year round.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Somewhere nearly on the equator. I was thinking Mexico too since the US never got a Figo, and I very much doubt anyone would import a 25 year old one.

Share this around! I’d love to see this end up TOP OF ALL TIME on Lemmy.

And kudos to OP if he took this photo and shared it with us. It’s masterful… just noticing… we have to notice what we notice.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Did you notice the flat tire?
