French: idk. Flash Gordon, Attack of the 50’ Woman, and Barberella are what come to mind, but those are American films

British: Time Machine by HG Wells of course

Australian Sci-Fi: The rest of the world is forced to live in a desert wasteland full of criminals the way we do every day, and they struggle to adapt.

British sci-FI: nuclear war. Almost everyone dead. Bit of a Tuesday, innit?

Isn't most American SciFi the direct counterpart to British SciFi?

Space army fights bad aliens. Space radioactive now, but bad aliens dead 👍 Space Captain hero.

Also, my friend needs some examples of French SciFi.

American sci-fi: America is technologically, morally, physically, and intellectually superior. And the answer to all ills is more science.

I need to watch more French Sci-Fi

As someone who reads scifi like a chain smoker in a tobacco warehouse, this reads as somewhat antiquated. Niven and Heinlein and such back in the day, definitely in the American camp on how they wrote women and relationships, not seeing much of that lately though. Heavy lean on military scifi instead. Most of it narrated by RC Bray.

Silo series was American. Though that felt like the smart man’s Fallout as a writing prompt. Chuck Wendig, American. Maybe we all just have apocalypse on the brain the last decade.

Not sure the space romance thing is limited to one country’s culture. God save us all from young adult fiction of any kind, because this is the main plot.

The real issue in scifi rn is the multiverse popping up like the vampire trend back in the Sookie Stackhouse days. Every other description of newly “printed” scifi I’ve read in my book searches this year: multiverse. Is everyone just out of ideas?

I liked it better when it felt like the scifi market was trying to find the next expanse.

British sci-fi is more likely one of these:

• Dysfunctional but mysterious magical traveler and his witless sidekicks stumble through space and time having campy adventures.
• Dysfunctional band of renegades rush through space having campy adventures fighting a heartless evil empire with witty retorts.
• Dysfunctional group of misfits stumble through space skewering each other with witty retorts and having campy adventures while trying to find their way home.

There's definitely a pattern there.

Hey! There are also Japanese sci-fi which just validate the author's fetishes. There's even two I know where that fetish is specifically polygamy.

British Sci-fi: Threads

Ukrainian sci-fi: Everybody just fucking dies. Nobody's fault, really. And there's meaningless but meaningful love. Also, it also functions as a very long music video for the song "Voyage Voyage", whose lyrics the author of the manuscript has clearly seen translated. (Referring here to "U Are the Universe", which I liked a lot!)

Russian sci-fi: every single person in the future is white.

Polish Sci-Fi: two guys wake up from hibernation in a world where men went extinct and have to convince all the women that world with them was actually not that bad and old order should be restored.

At one point in my life, every time I got a serious stomach flu, I would watch Threads (1984) so I could enjoy my life.
