Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

TranscriptThe image is of a four panel comic.

The first panel shows a brain. The brain is saying β€œI’m 30 and YOUNG! I only recently fully developed!”

The second panel shows a heart. The heart says β€œI hear ya! I can keep going for DECADES more!”

The third panel shows a spine’s face. It weakly says, β€œI am old”.

We zoom out and the spine is using a walker. It continues, β€œso very old”.

Y'all need to go to the gym or otherwise train your backs. I've been going for about three months (1-2 times a week) and the back pains are gone. Am 34, software engineer, and still a little overweight, so you can do it too!

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 3 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

32, lazy as fuck. I work as a chef 0 back pain and I engage in bisexual sitting. No idea why I don't have back pain but I'm convinced my sitting style is akin to doing yoga constantly or something

[–] Alloi@lemmy.world 18 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

the fuck is bisexual sitting?

[–] deft@lemmy.wtf 16 points 9 hours ago (1 children)
[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 8 hours ago

Can't sit gay either

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 8 points 9 hours ago

Actual phenomenon where bisexuals sit anywhere except in a chair. My wife will sit on the floor, a table, on the arm of a chair, upside down on the couch, etc

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

If you only eat "volume foods" you'll probably start to lose the weight too.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 6 points 8 hours ago

How do you eat noise? Is it one of those LA fad diets?

[–] MrOtingocni@lemmy.world 70 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

I feel this joke in my bones.

Early 40s, in the best shape of my life. Jogged, lifted weights, had my diet, supplements, and sleep dialed in perfect. I had tremendous amount of energy and felt great, high achieving in many areas of my life and the old lady and I screwed like rabbits.

Fast forward 7 or 8 years, degenerative disc disease caught up to me, now I can barely sit down on the toilet to take a crap. I'm barely functional due to the depression and loss of mobility and am in constant pain and discomfort.

But aside from the back, muscle loss, weight gain, limp dick, failing eyesight, heart murmur, hair loss, receding gums, cancer lying in ambush, and brain fog, everything else is fine. 🀣

Crazy to think the system wants to squeeze 20 more years of labor out of me. Why are we all putting up with this??

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 36 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Idk how to react to this but, hang in there dude

[–] MrOtingocni@lemmy.world 15 points 12 hours ago

Hey, thanks for the kind words! Yeah, it's a bitch but honestly it's a journey we all go through.

If we're lucky.

Getting old sucks but it beats the alternative

[–] sqw@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

waves from another corner of the fucked up disc zone

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 25 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

When you can literally injure yourself while sleeping.

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 9 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I once woke up with 3 dislocated ribs; one in the front, two in the back. Spent the first few hours of the day relocating them

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 17 points 11 hours ago

Had they rolled under the bed?

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 37 points 14 hours ago

The burden of walking upright.

[–] rowrowrowyourboat@sh.itjust.works 20 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The brain is always "developing". The whole 25 years thing is a myth and not based on real science.

It's the new "we only use 10% of the brain".

Neurogenesis (the creation of new neurons) has been observed in the brains of seniors.

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 16 points 14 hours ago (3 children)

Honestly, I can't really relate - in my 30s but I got a strong back, I don't really get back pain

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 29 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Neither did I until recently. Time comes for us all

For me it was an early 34th birthday gift. Without refund. It usually hits people who aren't doing sports, so if you're going to the gym with a good exercise routine that'll delay it greatly.

[–] isles@infosec.pub 4 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Some of my biggest back pains are from going to the gym! πŸ˜‰

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Watch out for your forms when lifting. It's so easy to hurt your joints if you're unfamiliar with certain movements under loads. I can now pop my shoulder like a knuckle because of it.

[–] isles@infosec.pub 2 points 10 hours ago

I also learned I meet hEDS criteria, hypermobile joints needed more care than I was giving them, was having too much dopamine from chasing weight numbers. Hopefully I can at least be a cautionary tale.

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 3 points 13 hours ago

oh nooo your warranty ran out :C

for the record i do gym and grew up playing hockey/rugby

[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Do you exercise or have an active back?

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)
[–] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I suspect regular moderate exercise within ergonomic safety limits is the best way to avoid back pain.

[–] Banana@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 hours ago

welp, good news for me then! :D

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 8 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

This is why humans need tails, to take stress off the spine

[–] ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net 2 points 12 hours ago

An inversion table works pretty well for that.

[–] InvalidName2@lemmy.zip 4 points 11 hours ago

I like how people are telling us that we need to go to the gym and shit as though some of us don't have actual medical issues with our backs. I've been dealing with issues since my teens with my back and knees, do all the physical therapy techniques I can to keep the pain at a minimum but it's only going to slow the inevitable.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 10 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I remember my back started popping at age 21.

That said, I've found that getting regular exercise, using one's legs, and doing some cardio every day has been great for my back. Doesn't hurt to take 5-10 minutes a day to stretch either.

Unfortunately the human body is 'use it or lose it'.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

when i was 22, i had some docs tell me i had the bones of a 60 year old

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Where’d you get them from? Hopefully not stolen. Somebody might need those.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago

oem equipped

[–] smaximov@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago

Resistance training helps.

[–] moshtradamus666@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I used to have back pain but then I started working out properly including my back muscles and I feel no pain at all, I'm 36.

[–] M137@lemmy.today 4 points 12 hours ago

Comic made by someone who hasn't had a life of psychological problems. My brain feels just as old as my spine and it's easier to give my spine breaks and let it rest, not as easy with anxiety etc.

[–] SourDragon@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Evolution was a scam all along to make future chiropractors more money! /s

[–] Uli@sopuli.xyz 2 points 11 hours ago

Everything was better back before cells had mitochondria.

[–] Ertain@feddit.online 3 points 14 hours ago

It's hard sometimes to be the best at carrying other people.

I'm not that person, though. I still have back problems, BTW.

[–] Beth@piefed.social 2 points 13 hours ago

I’m active and fit at 39. That said, my back did β€œthe thing” while I was slightly bent to throw trash away. And I have arthritis so I still just hurt like I’m out there punching walls sometimes, just as a treat.
