Can I be real? Chipotle has always sucked, like as a restaurant. I'll never understand how they took off; nothing is as good as your local Mexican hole in the wall, and if you're too uptight for that Moe's beats Chiptole's pants off every day of the week.
They actually started off pretty good. After they grew, they enshittified. They cheaped out on quality, pay, and portions.
The front-loaded the quality and systematically worked to increase shareholder value, betraying their original customer base.
Promotion. That's how they took off. I remember opening day they had free burritos for everyone, and the portions were probably double of what they are now. The food was mediocre but it basically was large size taco bell, so people got the general idea of what they we're getting.
Now for me personally, I prefer traditional Mexican food. There's a place around me that started as a food truck and now has three brick and mortar places. And they got weekend specials, like not what you get at fast food places, the bring your family specials lol
Moe's beats Chiptole's pants off every day of the week.
Yes, bigger portions (a burrito is easily shared between 2-3), better flavor, better prices, kinder staff (idk about compensation, though).
I'm in New Mexico. I think there might be one or two here. You know, for the out-of-towners.

I regret to inform you all that I haven't been to a Chipotle in over 10 years.
Never had it, googled it and apparently they do exist in my country. A few years ago I had KFC and Wendy's for the first and only time though. Wasn't my choice, I was with a group of friends and they wanted to go for some reason.
There's a Wendy's in my city that almost never seems to have any customers in it. I have a strong suspicion that it's a money laundering front.
I wonder if this AI partnership will cause their horrible food safety record to get better or worse?
Oh the cameras wont be pointed at the food. I'm sure these racist fucks think they will catch more mexicans this way. So insulting and racist at the same time.
I've never known LATAMs that eat that mess. Most of the awesome food trucks and restaurant-bodegas that used to be within driving distance aren't doing business, anymore.

I'm from Oklahoma and the first time I had it was in San Diego with someone from Phoenix. I didn't get it at all, you couldn't throw a rock without hitting a better Mexican place in San Diego.
Im also from Oklahoma and if I want mexican food I'll find a food truck.
Probably was the only place in town not being pelted by rocks.
Being from rural Arizona, my first experience with Chipotle was in Washington DC where the other half of our tour group was a school from Oklahoma. Somehow it was still hot for them.
They use tortillas. That's as close as I can associate the two.
By that reasoning my dinner today was Mexican. But I used loads of soy sauce and honey, it was almost like hoisin once thickened by cooking with the onions and beans.
Stir fry wrap? Although even that isn't really right as it wasn't a stir fry. I don't really know what to call a lot of my food. I reject puritanical traditionalists and just make what I enjoy.
If it makes you feel better, the amerese restaurant a village over is advertising Philly cheesesteak eggrolls. Ethnic Chinese owners too. But I prefer the one three villages over, a real dive looking place, outside, A grade, and none of that on their wall. Just good amarese, good portions, good prices. Both families are friendly, the closest one has fair prices and decent food, just the one father away in a janky looking building is better. And if you all right and they aren't busy, they'll make authentic Chinese for a fair price, too.
Chipotle is Mexican food?
It isn't. It's what Americans think Mexican food is.
I will continue never going to a Chipotle.

Chipotle used to be really good, especially at their original locations in Colorado. Absolute top-tier fast food at a time when that was an oxymoron. Then in the 2010s they started slipping, while their competition started improving rapidly. Now it's but a shadow of its former self.
Back when they used to bring whole ingredients in and make things fresh in the store? They were king of the US fast food at least.
yeah, it was bland american, but when it's up against mcdonalds and taco bell....

Chipotle's food handing was designed for lots of customers over a short period. When they started, their restaurants always had a line. So they always had fresh ingredients and a lower risk of foodborne illnesses because nothing sat around long enough for pathogens to multiply on it.
By the mid-2010's they had massively over-built, the lines disappeared. They more than earned their moniker of "Shitpotle".

I've eaten at hundreds of other Mexican places all up and down California and never once had any issues.
