Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

From what I can tell, this video was taken as they arrived to transport him, then later another one was taken when he was actually brought out of the house and put into the limo. Then more video was taken of him being wheeled around in the safe space Senate Chamber, but out in the hallway, only photos were allowed to be taken, no video.

So my guess is, he's non-verbal and they're going to wheel him around and help him push the right button to vote when they need his vote on something. So far I haven't seen -- more importantly heard any footage of him actually speaking. In the video I linked with him being wheeled out, he doesn't speak but does a "thumbs up" once, and in the car we see he has a blank expression and mindless grin.

[–] Brown5500@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

He then forgets to quit the thumbs up for a long time after he's in the van. And that blank mouth open stare. Dude is not there

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago

The worst part is, it's not even the party abusing him. This is what he would have wanted.

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah his constant unchanging expression gives me the heebs.

[–] portifornia@piefed.social 26 points 1 day ago

And that was even before the stroke!

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 25 points 1 day ago

Weekend at Bernie's was supposed to be a parody. 🤨

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 147 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Senate staff not to take video of his remarks in the second-floor hallway, even though video is often permitted in that area. Still images were allowed.

And the press, being completely controlled by the government offered absolutely NO pushback to this. Freedom of the press? An well informed public? "Most transparent government"? Buncha bullshit. You will only hear what the party wants you to hear.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Was this removed from the article? I literally cannot find it.

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

well damn... I think it was. I quoted it right from the article... looks like they took it out.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I definitely remember reading that part, even mentioned it in the post I made earlier. The press is completely under control of the regime now. Soon they'll be more careful not to put in anything that could even possibly cause them to get a displeased phone call.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Fucking hell. So they are hiding good reporting. 😔

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean, tbf, good reporting would have recorded a video regardless of what the fashys said.

[–] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

You’re absolutely correct.

[–] MeatPilot@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 day ago

Well it's really for our own safety. You see if you broadcast a video of the demon Pazuzu who is wearing Mitch as a flesh suit. The dark magics binding Pazuzu break and he will drag any witnesses into hell.

They're going to wheel his corpse onto the Senate floor and have someone push the button for his vote.

Already did once, apparently.

They're finally going to do something?

Actually shocked over here.

[–] watson387@sopuli.xyz 52 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I hear you. This is absolutely unexpected.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 77 points 1 day ago (1 children)

not really, the story is unclear, but it may be the cops are there to keep reporters away.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 67 points 1 day ago

“Protect the corpse!”

[–] StarshotJohn@lemmy.world 64 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So they really did the weekend at bernies routine?

[–] StarshotJohn@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Also, I'd love to see what drugs were in his system during his public performance

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It seems like they have some sort of concoction that will reanimate someone who is near death for a short bit of time.

[–] Burninator05@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They must have gotten Miracle Max to help.

Please tell me that this is in response to a wellness check that someone called in when he didn't show up.

I’m seeing conflicting reports. Newsweek says he did not show, and his staffers released a statement. CBS says he was seen in public and at the senate. Still have set to see any video evidence of this.

[–] blitzen@lemmy.ca 121 points 1 day ago

CBS is no longer a trusted source.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 48 points 1 day ago

CBS says

With the conservative purchase of CBS, going forward you should assume "CBS says" carries the same amount of truth as "Alex Jones says".

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 39 points 1 day ago (5 children)

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/watch-mcconnell-returns-to-the-senate-for-the-first-time-since-his-june-hospitalization

There's clips of him being wheeled out of his house too. Doesn't look like he spoke with any reporters. I'm guessing a stroke affected his speech. He certainly looks significantly older than three months ago.

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (3 children)

looks significantly older

There's an episode of dr. Who where they age the doctor physically to match his age and glitchin' Mitch still looks older than the 900 year old CGI goblin of 2010 BBC evening sci-fi. How could he possibly look any older?

Not to mention a taxpayer funded platinum health insurance plan

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I can't believe that they had three months to hide the evidence and didn't bother.

With friends like those Mr McConnell...

I’m guessing parts of him are. Dollars to donuts he’s a vegetable.

From the AP article:

Reporters and photographers were told by Senate staff not to take video of his remarks in the second-floor hallway, even though video is often permitted in that area. Still images were allowed.

So its deliberate

[–] 0ndead@infosec.pub 36 points 1 day ago (2 children)

He’s probably a drooling vegetable then

So they don't exist. Politicians don't get to show up to work and be out of the public eye at the same time. Your a public figure, if you can't do the job, it's not yours

Again, wtf is going on? CNN posted this: https://www.cnn.com/2026/09/14/politics/mitch-mcconnell-senate-return-health

Is that completely fabricated in AI?

[–] irish_link@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was wondering the same. AP sent out a news alert saying he voted. - https://apnews.com/article/mitch-mcconnell-senate-return-abe03e84e30a174da4076385692b5751

This raw story says that "more than an hour after the Senate convened without him" I legit don't know what to think.

[–] Dnb@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 1 day ago

Reporters and photographers were told by Senate staff not to take video of his remarks in the second-floor hallway, even though video is often permitted in that area. Still images were allowed.

What the fuck is going on... this is crazy he is clearly not well and needs to resign.
