Isn't there something equally wholesome of a dinosaur that trains like boss and then absolutely OPMs the asteroid back into space with a baseball bat?
Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
π Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
ποΈ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
𧬠Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
π½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
π Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
β Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
β Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
π¬ Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 π) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 π) will be removed.
-
π΄ββ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
-
πΏ Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists
The following artists are banned from the community.
- Jago
- Stonetoss
- GPrime85
It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Don't be silly, they didn't have baseball bats. They would've used their tail!
I love this so much. It has very "if nothing you do matters, all that matters is what you do" vibes. Thanks for sharing <3
I think that's a FLCL reference. Or maybe I'm thinking of another anime?

GAME
Hey I saw this episode of One Punch Man.
I saw it on an episode of FLCL
WE CANNOT DO A THING! PROBABLY!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_impact_avoidance
Asteroid impact avoidance encompasses the methods by which near-Earth objects (NEO) on a potential collision course with Earth could be diverted, preventing destructive impact events. An impact by a sufficiently large asteroid or other NEOs would cause, depending on its impact location, massive tsunamis or multiple firestorms, and an impact winter caused by the sunlight-blocking effect of large quantities of pulverized rock dust and other debris placed into the stratosphere. A collision 66 million years ago between the Earth and an object approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) wide is thought to have produced the Chicxulub crater and triggered the CretaceousβPaleogene extinction event that the scientific community understands to have caused the extinction of all non-avian dinosaurs.
In 2022, NASA spacecraft DART impacted Dimorphos, reducing the minor-planet moon's orbital period by 32 minutes. This mission constitutes the first successful attempt at asteroid deflection.[15] In 2027, China plans to launch a deflection mission to the near-Earth object 2015 XF261, with the impact estimated to occur in April 2029.[16]
EDIT: Based on a Tineye search, this comic was made no later than 2008, so it did predate that.
That last panel is like the guy sipping wine in a chair as the tsunami approaches, or the one person at the end of Don't Look Up doing a ceremonial dance as things fall from the sky. Might as well greet it in your own way.
Also the first panels remind me of the start of Don't Look Up, one of my favorite parts. "Why does the ephemeris keep getting lower and lower?"
Always loved in Lucifer's Hammer, a bunch of surfers go out to meet the incoming impact tsunamis, and you get a POV chapter as the wave washes them in to the city, and the surfers drop like flies till there's 10... 5... 1...
Great one, and that one last guy... well, he made it to land as the wave subsided, and lived happily ever after.
Oh boy, I remember Minus. Great is also, well, great
thanks for posting this, just went down a huge rabbithole!
I think the child or whomever has God like powers or something ... which I found out many years after seeing this and it changed how I felt about this.
[rant]
Oh. They're just the main character? That blows-- who gives a fuck about the rest of the panels, then? They'll be fine! Lets focus on the great hero that will save us, instead, and we can all just sit around and wait.
Far from a wild act of defiance, they're gonna hit the asteroid with a baseball bat because they're being fucking reasonable. If they didn't save all of humanity, I would have called them a selfish jerk (but from the afterlife because I'll be dead!).
I really liked that comic without this context :( I still like the comic, but its silly, now. Like the people fearing death are the joke, as its just a lil rock- it can't hurt anyone with the great hero around!
[/rant]
Thank you for the context. I didn't know it was a pat of a series!
Yeah, Minus is basically magical (and more than a little autism-coded) in a world without magic. It's a strange comic, but in a good way.
I have this print in my apartment. It's almost perfect, and better without the context of who Minus is. I'd want to remove the "probably", then I'm happy.
That's a good idea. The "probably" really is forced. Especially the second one. I think the "punchline" works better if the serious tension isn't broken early.
I DM'd you an edit I made, removing "probably".
I thought about posting it here, but I don't think we should get in the habit of editing people's coimcs to our liking and sharing them, probably.
I got the same kind of chills I got when I first saw this comic, before I read through the others by the same artist. It feels... Right. Well done! :D
I have no idea who Minus is and this comic is fantastic.
Arjen Anthony Lucassen (Ayreon) created an album based on this concept. It's pretty good if your into progmetal.
My favourite artist! Does a lot of sci-fi concept albums that are interconnected stories about climate change and overindustrialisation in a world that has broken the balance between rationality and emotions.
