The bacon thing was... really weird.
I mean, I like bacon, but... not like enough to make a lifestyle out of it
I heard it was in part a push from the pork industry. They were struggling to get grocery shoppers to keep buying bacon during the anti-fat fads of the 90s, so they spent millions lobbying fast food places and restaurants to make bacon a premium add-on 'bacon makes it better'; then the fast food marketing machine slowly brainwashed a generation into bacon obsession.
Ugh. Nothing is even shocking anymore.
I think it was an overblown reaction about masculinity and being against vegetarianism and whatnot. Obviously it became less explicitly about that, but i do think it stems from those feelings originally.
I went full-on bacon eating back in 2012 because who cared. A year later I'm fat and slow. Fuck those Mayans.
JB was bad and most guys hated him but most guys also ran around with the same haircut at the time.

Oh my god i completely forgot how much everyone loved epic meal time. Could never to content like that in this economy.
I was younger so it was somewhat enjoyable. Mostly for me it was seeing what crazy monstrosity they were going to make.

God I forgot about the whole bacon thing.
I remember it as the same time the narwhal bacon'ed. Never got the appeal of that meme.

I remember being really annoyed by the whole thing. People went from kale to bacon.
As a web dev, I feel awkward reminiscing about the thin period of web history when IE was a solidly built, standards-compliant browser.
It was like the IE team saw their history was causing them to lose all market share, and committed to fixing misdeeds since they held an underdog position. But for most, it was too little too late.
For several years, I tested in IE, not Chrome, because it was most strictly standards-compliant, and I could be sure that if it worked there, it would work in other browsers. (Now, if you use Edge, it’s just a repaint of Chrome)
I miss presto and the old opera browser
I loved Opera for a good couple of years. Came back to it around 2007 and I was shocked at what it became.
