Drinking negatively = vomiting up the fluids already inside your body.

you'll live forever if you're pure of heart!

I wonder how many regenerative nodules I have these days

That's the 'spirit'

Fun fact, Non-Alcoholic fatty liver disease is now the number one cause of fatty liver disease!

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 4 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

So liver disease causes liver disease?

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 8 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

No, it's just a reflection of how our diets have changed over time. When fatty liver disease was first being categorized. It only happened in alcoholics. So fatty liver disease meant The patient was an alcoholic. However, now with high glucose-driving diets, elevated insulin levels, the vast majority of fatty liver disease patients don't drink alcohol....

So we have this awkward naming scheme because our diets have changed faster then our language

[–] LetThereBeNick@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

There are so many children with non-alcoholic fatty liver. About 10% in the US

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 3 points 3 hours ago

That is tragic

[–] mudmaniac@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

1 large pizza, 1 jumbo tortilla chips, with bean dip and 3 beers will make you fat. Eating it all over the course of a single football game, every time your team is playing a game, will make your liver fat.

A fatty liver makes you crave MORE pizza, more tortilla chips with bean dip and more beers. Making it even fatter. Also makes YOU fatter too btw.

So yes. Liver disease causes liver disease.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 3 points 4 hours ago

Poor liver. I should leav'er be.

[–] Shartyfartblast@piefed.zip 2 points 12 hours ago (3 children)

What’s the cause if not alcohol?

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 6 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

Persistently elevated insulin from high glucose driving diets.

Even "healthy" people end up putting glucose food into their mouths 8 or more times per day. Insulin inhibits the body from mobilizing fat, and the liver builds up fat stores it cant get rid of.

The fastest way to resolve fatty liver is to stop eating food that elevates blood glucose - i.e. carbohydrates.

[–] xep@discuss.online 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

It can be difficult because of food addiction.

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 3 points 2 hours ago

addiction and just normalization!

A coffee with cream, a soda, a healthy "kombucha", a fruit juice... all spike blood glucose, and most people simply don't think of it as eating....

[–] LetThereBeNick@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

This is why I only eat fried cheese when dtunk

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

cheese will not elevate your blood glucose, so it is not involved in fatty liver etiology

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 hours ago

High starch diets?

So much fun! All the brain fog, spiking blood sugar and weight gain without the enjoyment of alcohol!

[–] InGodWeThrust@lemmy.zip 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Might as well just start drinking

[–] mudmaniac@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

Some days I really feel the urge yes.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 40 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (4 children)

You know, I'm kinda surprised the French don't have some recipie that requires feeding a cow alcohol until it got a fatty liver.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Orcas: “write it down, write it down”.

Orcas love shark liver, to the extent that they will eat the liver and leave everything else. It's not a small snack either:

Pretty understandable why they don't find humans tasty in comparison.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

That is a lot of liver. Also way more vertebrae than I expected.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Sharks are cartilaginous fish, with the skeletons made of cartilage. So while they're vertebrates, I'm not sure that the vertebrae function the same as bony ones.

Sorry, gotta choke a goose for a bit.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's easier than that. Dairy cows can get fatty livers during calving if improperly fed.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is fatty dairy cow liver a french delicacy?

[–] lengau@midwest.social 2 points 12 hours ago

Foie de boeuf!

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe if it was cheap vodka or something but we'd never waste the good stuff like this.

[–] InGodWeThrust@lemmy.zip 6 points 14 hours ago

I could actually see the French claiming it's MUCH different tasting when the cow gets the fatty liver disease obly from good cognac versus the regular bottom shelf booze
