1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

The offices are now just a Dead Space.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Former engineers are referred to as Apex Legends.

This is great news, soon there will be no EA!

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 41 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Perfect timing and a fitting fate, considering they are now owned by blood oil kings and nazi's

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

So no change, really.

Maybe that's a good thing. Maybe the last thing they would do is sell off the up to better firms.

Wouldn't that be just the CEO, then?

"We're going to have AI write all the games now"
~ some exec

[–] NekoKoneko@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

AI told me we can do it!

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

They're not a game company anymore. It's getting the Toys R Us treatment. They're a debt vehicle. They're gonna borrow against its value, place all the debt into EA while pocketing the cash, and let it die.

If we're lucky, they'll sell off the studios and IP before cutting it loose.

I just realized I haven't played an EA game in over a decade. SW Battlefront II was the last one, and it felt like a downgrade from the 2005 version.

I mean, are there any of their titles that have made an impact in the last decade? I can't think of any other than sports and racing games.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 25 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It Takes Two and Split Fiction were published by EA.

I also played Titanfall 2 which was a great little campaign.

That's about it for me.

[–] mudmaniac@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

Once upon a time when Infinity Ward's founders left Activision because of "Activision", and formed Respawn with EA, I felt EA were still the good guys in the industry. The Titanfall games were amazing.

After APEX Legends came out, I feel EA used up most of their Good Karma that they had built in the past.

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 21 points 1 month ago (7 children)

The Star Wars Jedi games are genuinely good self-contained no bs single player games.

I can't comment on anything else.

Their new owners pretty much only care about the sports games

In this whole ordeal that has been EA ... I can't remember a single instance where they tried to do the right thing by listening to the consumer, or employees for that matter.

It's amazing they are still around even. Die quicker pls.

[–] Krudler@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

The sheer power of licensing hey

[–] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 month ago

They own the rights to madden and college game day, those two alone can keep the doors open

Oligarchs oligarching. Every “publisher” and “developer” is firing everyone and are gonna very quickly vanish once it’s remembered that perpetual motion is impossible.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 25 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Private Equity 101, "buy" a business using borrowed money, put all the debt on the company you "bought", slash costs, sell off assets, have the company declare bankruptcy and take all the debt with it, rince and repeat... Profit.

[–] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Nobody has ever been able to explain to me why this is legal

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago

And as if that wasn't an insult to the middle class, people like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos can borrow against their stock holdings as if they were real assets, yet never be taxed on the value. But if you borrow against the value of your house, YOU get taxed on that value.

Can't wait for them to destroy it like they destroyed their golf league.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 month ago (2 children)

People are still buying EA:s unfinished games? Wow.

I admit that they got me a few times, but I quickly learned not to buy from them again.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The sports games keep the lights on.

[–] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 4 points 1 month ago

Sims is also an absolute juggernaut in very different circles from Madden and FIFA

EA, it's in the grave.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

So which studios will die this time?

[–] Kojichan@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago
[–] BallShapedMan@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

I'm shocked... /s

[–] BC_viper@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Yah, i expect not to buy anymore EA games. They had a good run i guess.

Mind you I haven't played many anyway lately.

[–] LemmyPlaceDN@europe.pub 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A good run that ended a long time ago

[–] p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

At least 25 years ago.

[–] Jyrdano@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (4 children)

My only hope is EA dies soon and some other devs take up and resurrect ME and DA

[–] Onyxonblack@piefed.social 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Honestly like why? I don't believe either property really needs to continue. Why must everything be an IP.. those games are OLD.. the good ones at least. Let it die.

[–] TeaWithDani@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Mass Effect was really just Bioware not wanting to pay for Star Wars again. Why not do the same and make a new Mass Effect worthy IP?

The trilogy told the story. Andromeda didnt really add much.

Hopefully they will combine the company with Neom so a future romantic poet finds the ruins amid the sands and wonders at the hubris of it.

[–] caut_R@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Just trimming some fat (and a leg or two)

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Fuck yourself EA. Wouldn't buy any more shit from you. Actually I don't buy us-american stuff at all anymore. Except indie-games.

They'll only make sports games, that's the reliable cash cow.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Been playing Electronic Arts games since the 1980’s.

Even if they are a shit company, Nice knowing ya.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

🤞please sell off BioWare so i can play Mass Effect again.

[–] mriormro@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Nothing’s stopping you from playing mass effect.

Why does everyone want sequels so badly? Are you all so attached to your nostalgia?
