Maybe it was actually his helmet making the sound but the dagger daggerflute was the electronic "key" to access music mode. He blows into his microphone and instead of it relaying the sound of his breaths it encodes it into flute playing. Technology is wonderful.
Maybe he was whistling? And the "music mode" was kind of autotune/synthesizer voice.

This is the part of Power Rangers that breaks verisimilitude?
Not the smoke ghost living in a glass tube or the creatures made out of actual putty or the seemingly endless supply of cities to destroy while also apparently saving them?

When I was a kid in the 90s, I kept thinking about the Power Rangers and how they were kind of gay, and I felt kinda gay, but they were kind of lame, and I didn’t wanna be lame.
So I got really into Star Trek in computers instead. I’m 47, and I’m confident that I made the correct decision. Star Trek definitely made me feel pretty OK about being gay, that’s for sure.

Well, technically, according to my records...
I'm 42, and I felt like I was too old for power rangers after Season 1.
You would have been close to 18 by the time the show debuted. I think I was 12 when it debuted, and outgrew it almost immediately.
Maybe that's why they felt lame to you. It was a kids show, and you were old enough to be in the Gulf war at the time it was happening.
by age 10 most people were too old for it when it first came out.
It debuted in 1993. If they are 47 they were born in 1979 and were 14 at its debut. Your math is close but a titch off
Different countries get new programs at different times. There is room for error.
The production was so low. You could tell when the footage was reused from Saban's earlier shows. Also, it kinda felt dated already when it came out.

Maybe we should talk about the universal joints used on the robots and how they are driven?
If you look at pictures of it, it has a few valve buttons on it, exactly like a trumpet. So, why he plays it sideways like a flute, rather than like a trumpet from the tip, I don't know.
Because in the 90s, sword towards mouth is gay.
