The U.S. has paused bombing Iran for a third straight night after senior Trump administration officials reportedly warned the president about dwindling munitions stockpiles. In response, Iran said it would pause retaliatory strikes against U.S. bases across the Middle East. Over the weekend, the Pentagon updated its official war casualty database, adding more than 140 wounded service members. The new figures show that 18 U.S. troops have been killed and 624 wounded since the U.S. launched its war against Iran back in February. The Pentagon is separating the casualty figures: Deaths and injuries after the ceasefire ended on July 7 are listed in a separate database labeled generically as “overseas operations casualties.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused Ukraine of attacking an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, saying one sailor was killed and another injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of passing on to Iran its satellite observations in the Middle East, allowing Iran to launch attacks across the region. This comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House Tuesday for the first time since the U.S. and Israel started bombing Iran in February.

Despite the lull in fighting, Britain said its armed forces were ready to defend itself after Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps warned the U.K. not to allow U.S. bombers to fly from U.K. bases. On Thursday, the IRGC claimed that the U.S. had flown bombing missions against Iran from Fairford Air Base in southwest England.

Everyone is saying this war is stupid, pointless, useless... but have you ever considered how important it is for Pedohitler to distract people from the fact that

HE AND HIS FRIENDS FUCKING RAPED KIDS???

Ok anyone making any kinds of governing decisions or military decisions should be required to play SimCity and any RTS of their choice until they are at least competent at it. Take StarCraft or AoE for example, you never attack an enemy without having your mining, barracks, and supply lines put together first.

This is why I think China stopped buying millions of barrels of oil. They knew if the price of oil shot to 300$/barrel he would have stopped nearly immediately. The fact oil stayed relatively low meant they could keep bombing and use up all their munitions. Now China has the perfect opportunity to take Taiwan. If they buy up a bunch more oil all the sudden that means they'll be attacking Taiwan soon.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

So they used up all our ammunition on nonsense. What happens when someone else decides to take advantage of that now

[–] DisasterTransport@startrek.website 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

edit: fair warning I'm not doing great so I'm more prone to doomposting. which this is. anyway:

We Balkanize, the good bits get snatched up by other nation states, and the shit bits get snatched up by private militias. Or, with no conventional munitions left to defend ourselves we start a nuclear war. Or, slim chance here, people vote against this despite Democrats sabotaging the process and then hold them accountable for consistently fucking this up for the last forever, and we reach a kind of degraded equilibrium, american empire declines, chinese empire rises, and MLs tie themselves in knots trying to justify China doing thebjinds if things necessary for maintaining a global empire

Oh, and the Enlightenment dies. Like you think its dead now, just wait.

[–] matallic@lemmy.world 8 points 5 hours ago

This is the equivalent of Ireland running out of booze.

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world 6 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

What the hell are we even bombing at this point?

[–] 100_kg_90_de_belin@feddit.it 2 points 1 hour ago

Trump threatened that the US would destroy an Iranian bridge or power plant any time its forces attack a ship in the Strait of Hormuz not even a week ago.

You know, war crimes.

[–] Sharkticon@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Schools, bridges, hospitals, power plants, water facilities, etc... You know war crimes.

[–] DanceMomsSavedMe@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 hours ago

That's fucking sad

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 6 points 7 hours ago

And this is why you dont just hand the keys to our munitions wharehouses to Israel while making sure its not tracked.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 20 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

The new figures show that 18 U.S. troops have been killed and 624 wounded since the U.S. launched its war against Iran back in February.

This right here. The United States didn't launch shit. tRUMP started an illegal campaign, unsanctioned and unwarranted. Just like he did in Venezuela, just like he did when he started murdering people in boats in the Gulf of Mexico. He's a war criminal. WE didn't launch missiles targeting a school and murdering a bunch of little girls, HE DID.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 3 points 4 hours ago

WE didn't launch missiles targeting a school and murdering a bunch of little girls, HE DID.

Except the money to launch these things are coming from your tax dollars. Trump gives those orders, but God knows how many Americans need to listen to them so this bullshit can happen. It's America doing this alright.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 8 points 8 hours ago

Like it or not, the US president is wielding the US like a cudgel at the rest of the world and the individual American is powerless to stop him.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 11 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (16 children)

tRUMP started an illegal campaign

Oh really? Did he sail down there and do it all by himself? Or was it the US Military that did it?
Like it or not Trump is President of USA because the American people elected him!

So it is indeed true that US started the illegal campaign, and bombed a girls school, and the people of USA are as guilty in this as the German people were about the Nazi atrocities of WW2.

You don't get to wash your hands for the entire population of USA, that chose to vote for the obvious psychopath, and the about a third of the population of USA that still support Trump and what the administration is doing.

Like it or not, this is America, this is who you are now!!!

[–] Hawke@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

the entire population of USA, that chose to vote for the obvious psychopath

lolwut? You think his election was unanimous?

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

There is obviously election interference. There was a mailbox on fire in a blue city, bomb threats called where dem voters were. There was no evidence for interference in 2020 and it has piled up for 2024. When I voted my notification paper did not come out of the machine. They have gerrymandered everything and are doing everything to discriminate against women and black people so that it's harder for them to vote.

Using google, Amazon, or Microslop? Because there is a reason these assholes have all this power. That's why I'm doing a lot to protect privacy, big corps, and fight facism that way.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

the people of USA are as guilty

You're right to say he was elected. Which means it's a really stupid oversight on your part to say it's "all" Americans guilty for it, considering quite a few of us did NOT vote to elect him.

You don’t get to wash your hands for the entire population of USA

That's correct. Neither do you get to implicate the entire population.

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 hours ago

Thanks for that. Damn. I'm so tired of getting buried under fascism and getting beat up for someone else's shit at the same time.

They should try being LGBT here right now.

Yes and no. He gave the orders. He didn't actually do the actions to make them happen. "I was just following orders" still doesn't work.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 49 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

Only trump could manage to wipe out both our oil and weapons stockpiles in the same move...

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 13 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Pigeon on a chess board. With an audience clapping and saying they've never seen anyone play the game quite that way. Genius.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 5 points 8 hours ago

Don't forget all the random shitting all over the board.

[–] lastweakness@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Don't insult the pigeons

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Putin will be pleased.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 26 points 12 hours ago (3 children)

So in theory Canada could walk across the border and grab some states?

I say that in jest of course.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Canada would not take on any US states even if we begged them on our knees.

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 4 points 8 hours ago

Just burn the Whitehouse down again.

[–] macaro@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, we wouldn’t want to be corrupted by their free healthcare.

[–] TeaWithDani@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

You get free healthcare, but you now have to speak french. Deal? :p

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 12 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think most people understand that the US doesn't have huge stockpiles of the more advanced weaponry needed to perform in a modern contested environment. Yeah, we can bomb the shit out of a country without modern defenses, but to bomb a country with advanced military capabilities (or being shadow-supplied advanced capabilities by China) you need to use the new shit, which is both expensive and slow to produce.

So I understand why a normal person might think it is simply a moral issue to start randomly bombing the shit out of another country for funsies, but the fucking President of the US, aka the Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces, should understand that we need those strategic stockpiles if anything else happens that is ACTUALLY important... maybe defending an invasion of Taiwan? He is actively weakening the US, and China and Russia have to be salivating about it.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 9 points 10 hours ago

if anything else happens that is ACTUALLY important

Then his leadership and tactical brilliance will...

Oh, we're fucked, right?

[–] skhayfa@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

He's waiting for Netanyahu orders

[–] capt_wolf@lemmy.world 5 points 11 hours ago

Coming up next: Repurposing factories for wartime production!

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

At least 18 people have died for this bullshit. Three people were killed in Benghazi and they were all people who worked there and the republicans dragged those hearings out for years. Trump better get raked over the fucking coals for illegally using the military and getting those people killed.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

At least 18 people have died for this bullshit.

It gives a rather bad impression if you put the lower bound of people killed at the number of US soldiers who are confirmed killed.

For example there is this one big position of 120 school children that should definitely also count as people who died for this bullshit.

I assume that was just clumsy writing, but I had to say something.

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I agree that everyone dragged into this bullshit should count, but the morons who run my stupid country are only going to look at the one number.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 9 hours ago

Yeah I agree on that count.

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 hours ago

You don't win a war by bombing. How many times must the US be taught this lesson?

Oh wait. American education system. I withdraw my comment.
