Today‘s game is Assassin’s Creed 2. I know I said it last time but this game is so gorgeous for its era. I will state this again too, that I am using ReShade to ditch the piss filter, but with some color stabbed into it, it looks good.

I especially love the field areas outside the cities. They feel so much more lively than what AC 1 had. In a way they remind me of Oblivion and how its cities look on the outside.

I notably made it to Venice. It looks really pretty so I’m excited to explore (plus tons of water), but I have heard that the parkour sucks kind of here. I’m hoping that’s not the case but I’ll have to see. I am excited to use the boats though, even if I suspect they’ll hurt my thumb.

I also liked getting to play as Altair in the Flashback. It’s cool they didn’t just ditch him to the wayside, even if he only really gets like 1 flashback (I assume) in this game. I know revelations though has a pretty big role for him though so I’ll be excited to play that again.

Anyways. As far as I know this is the halfway point so I’m already close to finished I think. I was hoping for some more modern day segments, but the lack of them I suppose is okay. Assassin’s creed 3 had that cool stadium segment I really liked so I know it doesn’t get entirely kicked to the curb (at least in this era)

oof, that colour looks way oversaturated. i found the colour grading of ac2 to be really nice, it really gave the cityscapes personality. try toggling reshade in different places.

and yeah people hated the modern day story beats and arbitrary gating, especially in ac4 and forward when desmond wasn't the main character anymore. makes sense the remake stripped all that out.

Agreed, I thought the assassin had been pasted on top of a screenshot from a Pokémon game!

I thought it was some new animal crossing meets dark souls mashup, there for a second.

It is oversaturated, but I see it as a huge improvement over the piss filter of the original.

i went back to look at screenshots and honestly i don't see it.

Maybe it's because I'm colourblind and a mess of browns is just boring to me. I love a good splash of different colours.

lots of different warm ochre tones on italian buildings of the time:

if most of these look the same then i think that's just you.

Yeah, i've been messing with the saturation lately and seeing what i like. I had it off in most of the cities and messed with that too but i don't know... something about it seems dead to me. I downloaded something that instead cleans up the color grading in engine, so i might just ditch reshade and stick with that entirely just so i don't keep messing with Reshade. I have a problem where if you give me settings like that i will mess with them just to try things out

I liked Black Flags modern day on the first playthrough, but any replays it just bogs down the whole thing i find. It really was carried by story. Once that's gone there's nothing really there.

same, i found the perspective shifts interesting in bf but when you know it has no resolution there's no purpose.

also do you think it feels dead because you... looked at it with the saturation all blown out first? :P jokes aside ac2 is a bit dream-like in its presentation so while i don't see the piss-filter thing i do concede that the palette is uh... soft. the two spinoffs are more bright, if i remember correctly, but then again it has been almost 15 years since i played them.

It's possible my monitor's settings were responsible for the dead feeling lmao. I found out today the Contrast and shit were cranked way up to max from the last time i was playing a game with some friend. I had turned them up for some extra visibility and just got used to them being that way.

I set my monitor the default "Picture" mode and just tossed out any sort of filters that mess with color. Instead i just kept Ambient Lighting and AMD CAS as i like how it makes edges look a little sharper. Though, Reshade seems to love defaulting back to one of my other presets so i have to figure out how to fix that

aaaahaha, the "tv at your parents" filter.

AC: Pokémon

That first screen shot looks like a mobile game I played 10+ years ago.

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 week ago

Welll the game is nearly 17 years old

[–] ISolox@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ezio and the world look like they're from 2 totally different games lol

[–] Milta@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah I thought the same thing. Something seemed off.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Like how did action game character end up in farming simulator?

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Ezio trilogy is the best AC has to offer. The colour here for the fields look abit ridculous. Desmond sucks but the story in the Villa is worth it this time and no other.
