With or without autism, you’d still be weird to keep using a platform that actively enriches the wealthiest neo nazi.

Seems especially weird for someone with a condition known for enhanced attention to detail.
I was never diagnosed. My nephew was, and my mother told me he was just like I was when I was a kid.
Gen X. They didn't diagnose us with mental conditions, if you weren't [hard R], they just said "go out and play and don't come back until the streetlights came on." I'm not saying those conditions did not exist or weren't known... or weren't diagnosed elsewhere in the world. Just that where I was, they didn't care. They thought we'd outgrow it. And I think that's the point. It was bullshit then and it's bullshit now that these diagnoses are coming out and people were saying "but they didn't have this when I was a kid." No, they just ignored the problem then. It didn't go away. Ignoring problems never makes them go away, but they're going to keep trying because the same people say "thoughts and prayers" whenever something goes wrong.
Fellow Xer. I was tested for other things. But yeah not autism. Because autism were the ones that were mongoloid as the term used to be. Thankfully well outdated now.
Still undiagnosed. But I've had plenty around me who were as adults. And honestly beyond knowing and having it documented. Something with the current ignorant fascists in power around here is probably a good idea to not be on another list. Just knowing why I do some of the things I do, and to recognize them. I don't know if there's a good reason to worry about official diagnosis.
But yeah. Dear god how things have changed. After 40 years I ended up seeing a rheumatologist again. When I was first tested for allergies in the late 70s. Diagnosis was often 25+ needles in the back. 5 columns and sometimes more than 5 rows just under the skin with common allergens. Then you come back and they would read the burning itching splotches like a map and make guesses at what you were allergic to and by how much. Yeah, guesses. And that's not being dramatic or hyperbolic. This time they drew some blood. So much easier and way more accurate. I don't know when they started this in particular. But damn wish I had known that at least sooner. Despite all our advancements even at the time that shit still seems almost medieval nowadays.
Jesus… Allergy testing was one of the worst experiences of my life. I had the back needle million poke thing like you described, and they also did a grid of shots into my arm. Absolutely awful. All I wanted to do was rub my back against the stucco wall of the doctor’s office like bear but they wouldn’t let me D:
Yeah I legitimately resisted going back because of that memory. But I was in such sad shape I finally said fuck it I'll give anything a shot to feel better. And I'm very glad I did.
A ton of my allergies have gone away since that test (oh gosh that was so long ago!) I no longer get seasonal, and I can rub cats on my eyes now! Cat face rub is an incredible QoL upgrade.
I’d happily get tested again if it’s that much less horrible hahaha
They changed how they detect allergies? I…might have to go in and get tested for that, someday.
If you are having serious inflammation issues of any sort. Not just congestion or runny nose. Run, don't walk. Even having previously been "diagnosed". Maybe I developed new allergies in the last 40 years. But I doubt it. I think they legitimately missed some of my worst ones. Giving some of them up after finding out was hard. But worth it for me.
Chronic joint pain hardly a thing any more. Chronic dermatological issues. Largely a solved thing. Congestion, it was never this minimal even as a kid plowing through everything with the energy of youth. Even managed to loose 50 pounds. Don't get me wrong. I'll break down and eat something with allergens in it from time to time. Even overdo it.
When I overdo it I will pay for it. Usually one of my ankles swells up and gets really sore and stiff. And I might have some other General body aches. But just detoxing my diet again and I feel so much better.
Honestly '50s and 60s you're going to get so many new aches and pains why add to it if you can avoid it. I definitely recommend going if you haven't been in 30 to 40 years. It's very different.
I got the allergy test too, except it was two or three rows down my right arm. I was terrified of needles back then, and injecting me with trace amounts of common toxins to see which ones I reacted to was not fun.
These days I'm not bothered at all by needles. (Never had a lumbar puncture though.) I love fucking with phlebotomists (people who draw blood), especially if they're good at it. I love to act like it really hurt. I always tell them though, that I'm just playing, and if they're good at it. It's fun. Had a flu shot, doctor came in with a really long needle. I remember saying that looks like it'll hurt. He started with the "it'll be over in a minute." I don't scream or anything when they push it in, I don't want them to jump or anything. But it was like, "oh that's it?" Good times.
Yeah, "more autism cases" is a typical case of "more data availlable".
Not to be pedantic, but plenty of problems go away if you ignore them. Or at least stop being problems.
Mildly related, I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 7, then my family basically hid it from me until I got myself diagnosed when I was 31. All those years of school problems, social issues, all the bullshit could have been massively helped if they didn't just want to hide everything.
Frustrating to think about.
