Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

This one tripped me up, because my friends were there around 10 years ago and they told me their Canadian passport saved them a couple of times from some people being hostile towards Americans.

There's a lot of people wearing specifically American cultural clothes here (NY hats, t-shirts with the US flag or names of baseball teams on them, lots of the motorbike helmets are available with American movie references on them)

I think that US propaganda has worked very well here in the past, and all of the fuckups are sufficiently far away that most people don't care about them at all.

I’m afraid to engage in international tourism because the country I’m from, the United States, is a goddamn embarassment, and I’m would be apologizing everywhere I go, and silent otherwise.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 week ago

The world does not hate those, who are awoken from the american ~~dream~~nightmare. You guys are just victims.

We really dislike all the brainrotten dimwits who still love all the shit your elite puppeteers do. And how they destroy the way of living, the internet and...gestures broadly at everything

[–] plutopos@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago

Just research carefully the country you go to. Some places hate tourists with a passion, some see them with curiosity. The country you come from is usually irrelevant (except if it's Israel)

I just got back from running around town (our tiny Canadian village has a garage sale day today) and saw a trump hat at one of them for sale for 5 bucks.

I thought it amusing that they didn't want it anymore but still think it's worth something.

Then again they WERE also selling a 1960's style stationary bike for $40 bucks while just down the street was a newer one for free with a digital display.

Must been Pete Hoekstra’s red hat after being told to tone down the 51st state rhetoric.

[–] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

To be fair, the 60's one probably still kinda works. The digital one is for sure dead.

The Italian prime minister (lowkey fascist) kept trying to establish good relationships with Trump, but even she had to give up with how much of an animal he is, lol

[–] Sunshine@piefed.ca 22 points 1 week ago (7 children)

Every Trump supporter who visits Canada should be chastised

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 week ago

they shouldn't be allowed in. they're literally enemies of the state.

No Denmark on the graph is disappointing after Trump’s threats to Greenland.

They probably selected where favorable is not 0.

This chart is an inverted 'quality of life' chart. Weird, I wonder how that happened...

Imagine having a less favorable view of America than Vietnam.

[–] Digit@lemmy.wtf 7 points 1 week ago

Imagine being Vietnam (with all that happened), and having such a favourable view of America.

I'm an American and I also have an unfavorable view of the USA

Don't get me wrong though, I don't hate America. I'm not unhappy in America. My day-to-day life in America is not bad at all

It's just, there are a lot of idiots here and it's exhausting being surrounded by them

Like I turn on my TV and I see a commercial for "Patriot Glasses". They are, "Tactical Sunglasses" and the advertisement claims that Navy Seals and shit use them so if you're a real Patriot you need them too. And the commercial is a guy driving his truck through the mud and shit... just idiot shit for idiot people and damn, it sucks there's enough idiots like that out there that somebody is marketing products like this to them

The World Cup is on Fox and there are commercials featuring that UFC guy talking about how America is bad ass because we're loud and say what we want to say because we're not pansies... it's absurd. Makes me wonder if people in England turn on the TV and see a guy dressed like a Red Coat talking about how bad ass it is to be Posh before he tries to sell you the Queens Tea Cups or whatever

[–] Fluke@feddit.uk 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Nope. Mostly gambling adverts. Every other advert, some cuntrag gambling company.

Why aren't you gambling? It's easy, we have an app for it so you can do it on the sly and everything. Do it. Gamble now, all your friends are doing it. Look at all these joyous people gambling, don't you want to be like them? Gamble now!

Not interested. Will never be interested. The more I get advertised a thing, the less interested I get; one of the few useful artefacts of my spergness. Advertising genuinely doesn't have the desired affect on me, it just annoys me and I mentally blacklist any product that advertises at me.

The entire advertising industry is a cancer on humanity as far as I'm concerned. A net drain of resources that serves no purpose other than to prop up the throwaway consumerism that's destroying the only place in the universe known for certain to support life.

Fuck all that shit.

As a Canadian who vehemently hates the United States and everything it represents now, I have yet to actually meet anyone who hates the US as much as I do. Most are indifferent.

[–] Leviathan@fedinsfw.app 7 points 1 week ago

Canadian here, I live in a big city so my data is probably skewed, but pretty much everyone I know thinks that America (Republican America especially) is a fucking dumpster fire.

Vietnam is on position 4 (consider they were at war 55 years ago), where as most of NATO is at the bottom, even below Russia.

Brazil is a shocker for sure! 54% approve of the new Monroe Doctrine MAGA regime?!

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 1 points 4 days ago

At least its more or less a coin flip. But Brazil is nastyer then I thought I guess.

[–] k0e3@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'm happy to see Japan that low on the list. I was expecting them to be right underneath Israel.

Similar number of Americans feel the same

[–] TORFdot0@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I don’t think most Americans even think about Canada. And the ones who do and actually have a negative view of Canada are probably MAGA of which the rest of us have a negative view of MAGA just like the Canadians do

Edit: I’m a doofus who read this as Americans feel the same way about Canada instead of correctly reading this as most Americans have a negative view of America under Trump

As an Australian, that's a depressingly high favourability rating :(

We have US military bases in Australia, we've already successfully been invaded.

Those numbers are supposed to be good news, but they aren't. Favourable views are still ridiculously high. I guess the biggest propaganda machine in human history pays off.

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 week ago

Only 66%? That is a depressingly low number IMO.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 8 points 1 week ago

What's wrong with the other third!?

[–] SoloPhoenyx@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

Funny coincidence. That's about how many of us Americans have an unfavorable view of the USA.

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I hate this timeline so much. Gestures broadly, I get it as someone who lives in the USA…

how the fuck is brazil this favorable

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago

Are we gauging America, or Americans?

Because one third of Americans seem like great people. I only know like a hundred, and only two of those are absolute dicks.

66%. This seems low.

I suspect they were being polite.
