Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

That seems low. Are the rest too busy fighting polar bears or living in Alberta to care?

[–] HrabiaVulpes@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Ashamed to see my country still holding mostly favourable views of USA, but then again many people here don't have access to more information sources than state TV and perhaps some local press.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 54 minutes ago

I think lots of Americans being disgusted with America blunts this to a degree.

[–] NM_Gringo@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

70% of Americans have an unfavorable view of the USA.

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Well 38% of Americans need to get off their asses and vote. Cuz only 22% of Americans voted for him in 2024.

[–] Soulg@ani.social 3 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

A large part of the problem (but not the only problem) is the constant suppression being done by Republicans at every step. If we just had compulsory voting and a day off to vote then they'd never win again. That's why they keep doing everything they can to prevent people from voting.

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 59 minutes ago)

Fully agree. Look at the social-democracies with the highest rates of satisfaction and they all have >90% voter turnouts and sometimes mandatory voting.

VOTE THE FASCISTS TO DEATH! BLUE NO MATTER WHO OR YOURE ONE OF THEM! HARRIS-GINGRICH 28!

[–] Canconda@lemmy.ca 1 points 22 minutes ago (1 children)

I'm all for calls to violence against the billionaire class but we could really do without this kind of anti-intellectual bullshit.

Like if you really want the working class to rise up violently than go easy on this cringey edgelord shit that only appeals to 14 year olds.

Exactly the juvenile behaviour that precludes you from a seat at the adult table.

Ignorance got us into this mess and people like you are just another aspect of the same ignorance.

I think that with all those deal with have with the US, we need to work on it. Price of shipping a truck in the US, 2 bucks, France, 200.

Funny. When you defend a genocidal regime from justified resistance, people are going to dislike you.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 hours ago

Only 13 are >= 50% unfavorable?

disappointing.

[–] garbagehead@lemmy.ca -2 points 4 hours ago

Funny when boycotting US means: consuming and paying for USA sports, streaming, cars, movies, music, etc, etc. on a regular basis. It's hypocritical.

[–] VelvetPinkOtter123@lemmy.world 15 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I'm an American and I also have an unfavorable view of the USA

Don't get me wrong though, I don't hate America. I'm not unhappy in America. My day-to-day life in America is not bad at all

It's just, there are a lot of idiots here and it's exhausting being surrounded by them

Like I turn on my TV and I see a commercial for "Patriot Glasses". They are, "Tactical Sunglasses" and the advertisement claims that Navy Seals and shit use them so if you're a real Patriot you need them too. And the commercial is a guy driving his truck through the mud and shit... just idiot shit for idiot people and damn, it sucks there's enough idiots like that out there that somebody is marketing products like this to them

The World Cup is on Fox and there are commercials featuring that UFC guy talking about how America is bad ass because we're loud and say what we want to say because we're not pansies... it's absurd. Makes me wonder if people in England turn on the TV and see a guy dressed like a Red Coat talking about how bad ass it is to be Posh before he tries to sell you the Queens Tea Cups or whatever

[–] Fluke@feddit.uk 10 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

Nope. Mostly gambling adverts. Every other advert, some cuntrag gambling company.

Why aren't you gambling? It's easy, we have an app for it so you can do it on the sly and everything. Do it. Gamble now, all your friends are doing it. Look at all these joyous people gambling, don't you want to be like them? Gamble now!

Not interested. Will never be interested. The more I get advertised a thing, the less interested I get; one of the few useful artefacts of my spergness. Advertising genuinely doesn't have the desired affect on me, it just annoys me and I mentally blacklist any product that advertises at me.

The entire advertising industry is a cancer on humanity as far as I'm concerned. A net drain of resources that serves no purpose other than to prop up the throwaway consumerism that's destroying the only place in the universe known for certain to support life.

Fuck all that shit.

Seen the one where the guy hears a car alarm chirp and it triggers his gambling impulse? Like, he hadn't been thinking about it but every day sounds can bring on the urge. That is absolutely advertising an addiction, crazy that this shit is legal, especially given that they get upset with me for using small doses of opiates to get through my day.

First thing I did was try to find us; I thought the same thing

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 9 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

As an Australian, that's a depressingly high favourability rating :(

We have US military bases in Australia, we've already successfully been invaded.

[–] nightlily@leminal.space 1 points 2 hours ago

Go Nuke free, that right pisses them off.

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 3 points 15 hours ago

Yeah I want them gone too mate.

I’m sick to death of their grievance and froth politics.

[–] ZDL@lazysoci.al 8 points 17 hours ago

What's wrong with the other third!?

[–] SoloPhoenyx@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago

Funny coincidence. That's about how many of us Americans have an unfavorable view of the USA.

[–] ddplf@szmer.info 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

"Jewish people actually hate their Netanyahu and Trump"

Well appearently these jewish aren't living in Israel.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 8 hours ago

There are protest across Israel, more than Anti Trump protests in the USA.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

Here's a rare instance of being proud to be at the bottom of the list

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 16 hours ago

israel is being funded by USA, plus they have alot of billionaire backers in the states too.

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

My thoughts about Russia and the US are quite similar. The main difference is that one of them has free access to the internet.

Would love to see this year over year.

[–] Bo7a@piefed.ca 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This chart is an inverted 'quality of life' chart. Weird, I wonder how that happened...

Poland, failing again. 55% are fucking idiots, MAGA will abandon your asses if the Russians spill across the border.

Yeah, I'm so disappointed with that score...

[–] Napster153@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

Poland and getting shafted continuosly in history is a trend I'm noticing.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

that 1/3 of canadians, the fuck kinda hole you living in?

signed, californian

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 hours ago

An intellectual shithole called Alberta.

[–] Yttra@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (3 children)

Alberta, usually. Plenty of pro-Trumpers around the country though.

Last I actually spoke to one in person last year, they said the administration was "getting rid of corruption and waste" rather than doing the exact opposite.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Oh come now. We got our idiots (who are in power) but the strongest pro us area in Canada is in Ontario (who also has an idiot in power) around Windsor. Sometimes I think us Canadians just like to pass off national actions as some other province's issues.

[–] Yttra@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

I did mention there were plenty around the country, but I used to live around the Essex County area. The border towns will always be more supportive because they generally have stronger business/economic relationships with the US. It's really more of a hostage situation, because manufacturing (huge automotive sector, mainly) wants their metals and gets hit harder during Tariff Tantrums. Plenty of folks also cross over to stores when the exchange rate is good, families might visit each other, someone'll skip SCC or UoW to go to U Michigan, etc. No loud minority with Premier support begging to split from Canada though, last I heard.

Then once you leave the city proper, there just aren't many people around 'til you hit, say, Chatham.

And for what it's worth... despite Ford's long run, Windsor itself used to be very Liberal/NDP (something like 60% between the two) until very recently.
