I made a list (far from complete) using EU brands, categorised by Country, and type of fashion.

I haven't categorised it by sportswear, outerwear, casual, or formal wear etc.

There are very likely a few mistakes, if anyone sees any mistakes and/or thinks another brand should be on the list, please let me know where they are from and I will add them.

I also have not categorised them by delivery (selected countries, EU wide, or international). It was initially just meant to be a reminder of clothing that is made in the EU, but I started categorising and now here I am.. The UK list is just massive on it's own, so may add that later, I did not include as not in the EU.

Ideally all brands will be manufactured in EU, but where it is not applicable I will mark them as I find out.

But just european brands or European Made?

[โ€“] Babalugats@feddit.uk 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ideally European made. If they are not made in Europe, but are a European brand, I will mark them as such, as I find out.

[โ€“] Seyker@tardigram.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Then any Inditex is european...

Let me introduce you to the Bestseller group https://bestseller.com/brands

They own most of the brands you have heard of in Europe (Only, Jack and jones, Selected, Pieces, Vero moda, etc. - Some of them are already on your list). Manufacturing of whatever you buy from them is still most likely done outside EU.

The group is privately owned, and the owner is the richest man in Denmark.

[โ€“] Babalugats@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago

Thanks, stumbled upon them from another comment, and will add the ones not added later today.

[โ€“] Kjell@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

You have mentioned under both Sweden and Denmark. The brand is Swedish but it is owned by a Danish company, does that mean it should be sorted under Denmark?

You can add some more brands

Estonia

Suva

Sweden

Stenstrรถms - PR
Oscar Jacobson - PR
Woolpower - PR

Luxembourg

Eton - PR

Denmark

Selected Homme - FF
Jack & Jones - FF

Norway

Aclima - PR
Morris - PR

I think all these brands except for the fast fashion and Morris have production in Europe.

[โ€“] Babalugats@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Thanks, I added them, but not sure if the Suva is the one you meant (socks) I removed Tiger of Sweden from Sweden, meant to remove it earlier

I also changed woolpower and aclima to sustainable as I will imply that is Premium anyway.

Suva

Also, says here that Eton are Swedish Eton

Selected are related to a few under the Bestseller umbrella, I will add them later Selected

It says here Morris are Swedish also Morris

One of the best shoe brands:

http://mukishoes.com/ in Portugal.

Made with local manufacturers, zero drop, foot shaped shoes, comfortable, wool insoles, full leather versions of shoes that are waterproof with oiling.

AND, they have a resole program where their shoes are actually designed to last a long time (specifically the leather ones) and they will resole them for around 30 euros. That is quite an exception even for European made shoes. I haven't had to use it yet as my shoe soles still look great after 1.5 years of daily walking and office use.

I appreciate the effort - I've actually posted something similar here myself (for wool socks, on another Lemmy account). I sometimes wonder if it would be better to contribute them to something like https://buyeuropean.fandom.com/wiki/Buy_European_Wiki or any other aggregator (wikidata?). goeuropean.org is a little too simple.

I see from the comments here that people have various preferences - doesn't do business in Russia, doesn't have residency in a tax haven, is not only based in Europe but has an European owner too etc. This could all be filterable.

[โ€“] Babalugats@feddit.uk 1 points 4 days ago

I tried not to block out companies, just included all of those that I hear of, and then categorise them as such and let people make up their own mind whether or not to avoid them.

[โ€“] Babalugats@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago

Thanks. Great site, I wouldn't even attempt to create something like that ๐Ÿ˜€ This was just supposed to be a reminder of European brands. I think that site solely deals with vegan brands (I could be wrong).

Decathlon? (France)

You can also add Tilak under Czech Republic. https://www.tilak.com/

Made in Czechia, very high quality outerwear (snow, rain, hiking gear).

I'd like to mention Varusteleka from Finland. They used to just order all kinds of joke garbage from China in their first few years, but these days they design and make plenty of army/hiking/outdoors clothing, especially from (recycled) merino. Usually made in Lithuania.

[โ€“] Babalugats@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago

Thanks, added.

[โ€“] Europellinore@europe.pub 3 points 1 week ago

Some of them I wouldnโ€™t include or even use, because they are too eager to continue doing business in russia, thereby paying taxes to the russian state that uses 46% of their budget for their war against Europe.

https://www.pushtoleave.org/

[โ€“] Kjell@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Here is a quite long list of different European clothing companies. Most of them produce in Europe, some of them have been mentioned before.

You have some shoe brands, so what about wildling.shoes from Germany producing in Portugal? (And working with Nordwolle, already in your list.)

Bablibaris (French) which is sort of S, PR has commitments to produce around the Mediterranean and aim at producing with natural fibers.

Northern Playground a cooperative from Norway produces in the EU, uses natural fibers and offer one repair per item. Also stopped using Facebook ads and are anti-overconsumption. S, PR, and a focus on clothing that works both outdoor as well as in town.

[โ€“] Babalugats@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Thanks, added both. I don't think there are any fast fashion brands that are also sustainable, so S (for now anyway) is to include premium by default. Hoping to eventually break down to the types of fashion (sports, outerwear, children, men, women etc.)

[โ€“] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Was just looking around Northern Playground's website, and I love how thet are meta free...

but..

uh, bottom of thier page links their active meta pages?

They have a photograph at the top of the website, a bunch of folks under a "meta-free" banner, yet both insta and Fb links listed at the bottom page are active?

I find this odd.

[โ€“] baguette@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I agree! They talk about it in their newsletter. I didn't say they were Meta free, but not advertising there. I still consider this advertising, though. Maybe, then, they just stopped paid ads.

Update:

So, yes they clarify it in their latest newsletter on this topic.

Vi er fremdeles tilstede organisk (ikke betalt) i Meta's univers gjennom Instagram og Facebook.

I guess that's a difficult choice to make for a company.

I think the way they word it sounds like they are properly ditching Facebook, but they clarify it in the text. Sneaky, but I am willing to forgive as they are vocal about other social topics and at least try to do something against Meta (and later Google).

BTW! Completely forgot to mention they are a cooperative :).

Here's some to add to the Finnish list (since for some reason only that military site keeps making the lists, which is a bit annoying because realistically most people don't wear that style:

Paapii (kids and women, made in Finland) https://www.paapiidesign.com/fi

Lija the Label (swimwear, designed in Finland, but made in Portugal, still within EU) https://liljathelabel.com/

Nรฉpra (active wear, designed in Finland, Fabric from Italy, made in Estonia, still within EU) https://www.wearnepra.com/

Svala (thermal wear, made in Finland) https://svala.com/en/shop/

North Outdoor (merino wools, these linked specifically are made in Finland) https://northoutdoor.com/en/collections/merino-wool-shirts-and-accessories-made-in-finland

Vai-ko (multiple items, made in Finland and Lithuania) https://vai-ko.com/

Thanks for doing this, very useful! I'd also add Noorlys, German company manufacturing in Portugal and Turkey. They claim to be sustainability-focused, but I haven't verified that claim. I do personally like their clothes and consider them high quality though.
