Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

TheOnion should buy Infowars.com and start posting real news.

He was this timeline's Anchor Being. Now we're doomed.

And Prince. Two god aliens that kept reality sane.

There was a chance to not go this way!

Reminds me of /r/animetitties from the Reddit days.

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

not as good as it used to be, still the best news sub on that shit site.

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

what was the story with that?

[–] Dashi@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don't recall exactly but this is the gist that I remember from a /r/subredditdrama post I read over a year ago

"Real news" sub reddits let porn, nsfw content, onlyfans and whatnot on them because they were not actively or thoroughly moderated. Some users were upset,To emphasize their point started posting nsfw anime pictures.

Someone decided they had enough and broke off into their own sub reddit that has actual news and it was called /r/animetitties or something.

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

ah okay thanks for explaining. sounds like it might have also been similar to the r/trees and r/marijuanaenthusiasts thing.

[–] King_Bob_IV@startrek.website 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't forget the classic r/Superbowl. Greatest sub reddit scoop in the history of Reddit.

[–] MrKaplan@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

!superbowl@lemmy.world

[–] RisingSwell@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 year ago

I think trees was just weed users got there first

They should have a section "not the onion"

[–] aStonedSanta@lemm.ee 28 points 1 year ago (2 children)

While I like this I fear it’s too costly. Good journalism is pricey. And good comedy is pricey. I don’t know how well those two fields overlap. But I know I’ve seen good combos with Jon Stewart and Jon Oliver. So it’s for sure a possibility. I’d pay the onion for real news tbh.

[–] Xeroxchasechase@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Both have a place and they both as important as the other

[–] Bluetreefrog@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Maybe it can only done by Jon's.

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago

They really could start publishing real news stories and no one would know the difference

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago
[–] ProteanG6777@lemmynsfw.com 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Might as well call it Notheonion

[–] Gestrid@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not He Onion? Or No The Onion?

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 8 points 1 year ago

"The Onion?"

"No. The Onion."

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

They kinda did, but it was an accident.

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They could call it the nonion

[–] mjhelto@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

"This is nonion your business!"

[–] Loce@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Even in the current form it's more substantial than the fox news.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Astronaut, gun, Astronaut

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Most "real" news outlets too.

[–] RandomVideos@programming.dev 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Since people are saying that reality is becoming ridiculous, there should be a newspaper that says believable fake things like "people are treating climate change seriously" or "everyone is wearing masks and quarantining after covid-19 pandemic"

[–] beliquititious@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

"Republicans voters appalled lawmakers wants to hurt immigrants more than help American families"

"Elon Musk announces he is joining Bill Gates and many other billionaires in pledging to give away 90% of their wealth in their lifetimes"

"McDonald's joins a growing movement among companies to prioritize employee happiness and wellness as a means to increase productivity"

"Citizens in both Russia and the United States are calling Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump's upcoming golf fundraiser World War III"

I feel like a news site from an alternative timeline where people aren't dicks to each other would be amazing!

I want a mix of the two, satire and real life, and you can't tell them apart. Basically merging TheOnion and NotTheOnion.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If they did, and no one could tell the difference.
