Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Latest Trump move: distract from the child raping by highlighting the sexual assault

I am sure they will find tons of evidence and put together an articulate well thought out case. It will totally show she planned well in advance a conspiracy to allow trump to follow her into a dressing room and forcefully stick his fingers up inside her vagina against her objections. All so she could later file a lawsuit against him and sully his good name.

It's almost the perfect crime...

*Who proved so definitively that Trump raped her, that he automatically owes her millions of dollars anytime he claims that he did not rape her. Which he in fact did

[–] Pistcow@lemmy.world 37 points 6 days ago (1 children)

So like, a third payday for her?

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 30 points 6 days ago

Only if the fascists are taken down.

I know we get desensitised but this seems like an escalation of the corruption, no? Like it seems there's a difference between suing the media for printing something bad about you and suing an individual for daring to win against you in court?

Maybe I'm forgetting similar instances - remind me if so - but otherwise do you agree?

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

Well this isn't a lawsuit. They are actually trying crimely prosecute her for winning that rape case. So much worse.

[–] GreenShimada@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

JFC, literally throwing good money after bad.

Enjoy your third lawsuit, lawyers for E. Jean Carroll.

[–] chilldrivenspade@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

does it get more evil than raping someone, and then trying to frame them as a criminal for saying so?

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

She should cash in on the J6 slush fund.

This was the shit centrists said when anyone who had insight told them Trump would pay nothing and get away with it.

It’s in fact worse.

So let me see if I have this right:

  • Trump was found liable for sexual abuse and ordered to pay restitution (he's appealing this)
  • Trump frequently and publicly called her a liar and ended up in court again, and was found guilty of defamation. Ordered to pay restitution again (say's he's going to appeal that, too)
  • So now they're trying to charge her with perjury because she said, in a deposition, that nobody was paying her legal bills, and it later became known that Reid Hoffman paid some of her expenses.

I can't see how this can go well for the justice department. There's no evidence that she was lying. It's very possible she either didn't know about the money from Hoffman at the time, or that the funding was secured after her deposition. Either way, a judge already ruled that it wasn't relevant to the case. IMO, this will almost certainly get thrown out for being vindictive prosecution. IANAL, though.

It’ll go through

She’ll get charged

[–] homes@piefed.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hasn’t she wanted 1 millions from him already? Does she need more money?

[–] civilfolly@lemmy.world 24 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Nope. The First Trial (2023): A federal jury found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation, awarding Carroll $5 million in damages. Then, a Second Trial (2024): A separate federal jury awarded Carroll $83.3 million. $65 million in punitive damages and $18.3 million in compensatory damages) strictly for defamation. However, no money has been exchanged because it’s tied up in the courts forever.

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Either she or Trump will die before any money change hands. Trump has tried pretty much everything he can do and even some things he can't do to avoid paying her. He has appealed the case to the Supreme Court 12 times until now and he will keep doing it until they actually say no or take up the appeal. He has even tried to add the Justice Department to the trials as a defender so he could then claim liability immunity.

Every penny of his and his extended family should be taken. Give her $100m, and use the rest for a museum for minorities and women.
