Bad sounds? Clothes giving you anxiety? That's a 'tism.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 33 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, AuDHD is much more common than we realize, so yes.

[–] kieron115@startrek.website 7 points 1 week ago

Yup, just got my dual diagnosis at 40. In the US you couldn't even have a dual diagnosis until like 10 years ago. It doesn't change my day to day much but it does make me feel better about failing when trying ADHD coping mechanics that just aren't made for me. Now I can look for specific strategies.

In addition to the prevalence of AuDHD, sensory processing issues are also a symptom of and sensory processing disorder is comorbid with ADHD.

Some things are symptoms of both autism and ADHD.

They are not only restricted to autism.

These comments bother me as much as the ones that say "everyone has that problem" because it is very difficult to carve out a single place for ADHD.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago

I was going to comment that. People. Sensory things. Etc. I have strictly add now. AdHd as a kid. I'm really gregarious, outgoing, often the life of the party.

I'm in this picture and I don't like it

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 week ago

I think you look great

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You should put water and food at the top of the list because they're the most quickly fixed as well as the sneakiest.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Yeah my checklist goes "When did I last have water? When did I last eat? When did I last use the bathroom? When did I last sleep?" Then if those are met, we get more specific. Like "Am I upset about mother or husband or twin or cat? Am I upset about some specific news? Some general news? The general world?"

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 17 points 2 weeks ago

"People" would be at the top of my list.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I wish I could do creative. That sounds fun

[–] moakley@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Even if you can't do it you just do it anyway. Make something genuinely terrible. It's good for you.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I usually feel shame that stays with me for weeks or months.

[–] moakley@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I've got shame for years. But sometimes I draw something nice. I've actually seen some of my stuff reposted as memes, and that feels like the opposite of shame, whatever that is.

Anyway you don't do it for the art or whatever. You do it because it's good for you.

[–] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 week ago

Just make some marks using whatever tools you have. They don't even have to be visually appealing marks

[–] jh29a@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago

It might be conceptually sad to some people, but programming something that I don't need works for me

[–] Mesophar@pawb.social 3 points 1 week ago

Creative isn't just traditional art and drawing, there's no way you've tried everything creative and everything makes you feel shame after. Poetry, writing, painting miniatures, origami, flower decorating, 3d modeling, programing, crocheting, macrame, pixel art, bead art, stained glass, mozaic, and so much more. I know "don't worry about the end result" doesn't lessen the feeling of shame, but instead focus on something super simple and approachable for a beginner to accomplish in whatever creative endeavor you engage in. Start small, build from there.

  • The same random song I heard once on the school bus in 1997, going around and around in my head...
[–] MsFlammkuchen@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The tune from the bus goes round and round, ...

If it's none of these, it might be worth getting a blood test.

I recently learned I had a severe vitamin D deficiency that had probably been going on for years. Started taking supplements and it's astounding how many of my physical and emotional issues suddenly cleared up.

[–] alexquiniou@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How exactly it affect your mood ?

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Pretty heavy depression centered on a feeling of hopelessness

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago
  • need to do a thing but I don't want to
[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 9 points 1 week ago

Sat there in a club for nearly two hours last night before realising I was incredibly thirsty, then downed two bottles of water.

[–] LGTM@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 1 week ago

Wow, it'd probably be healthier to acknowledge that some of these might be why I'm not feeling great instead of buzzing around angry all the time

Add in hormonal fluctuations and I'm in this post and don't like it.

[–] Rolive@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 week ago

Everything except not eating. I'm as food motivated as the average Labrador.

[–] BenLeMan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

And when you're highly sensitive to boot, things like smells or a bad vibe between the people in the room can be extremely stressful as well.

[–] lengau@midwest.social 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Two more for me:

  • Had coffee multiple days in a row (not caffeine — coffee specifically, and idk why)
  • In a car multiple days in a row

  • In a car multiple days in a row

Try being a truck driver...

[–] crashex@crazypeople.online 2 points 1 week ago

Or maybe don't.
