A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

admired by many Spaniards
Sorry but no. Bullfighting is actually very unpopular in Spain. It's a relic of the past that's kept on life support by conservative politics.
Very happy to hear he has been gored by the bull. Couldn't have happened to a worse person. And this is always the reaction of pretty much everyone I know whenever this happens
Last line:
A poll taken last year by the BBVA Foundation found 77 per cent of Spaniards found the pastime “unacceptable”.
pastime
Really? I think these events could be memorialized as a sort of messed up cultural thing to look back upon, but using such a banal word for it feels pretty odd in its own right
Yeah, people don't often realize the bull is literally being tortured by getting stabbed. Then it's eventually killed. I mean if you're killing animals for food do it as humane as possible, but for a show? No.
I suppose 'many' is a relative term. As a pure number of people I'm sure there are tens of thousands of Spaniards who love the 'sport'. But as a percentage of the population, yeah you're right - the large majority think it's stupid and want it gone.
Spaniard here.
Bullfighting is nowadays extremely niche of the extreme right wind retards. No normal perdon liked it, let alone knows the name of that arschloch.
We are happy the bull managed to win a small fight.
Man, I love the EU.
Spaniard here
German username and uses the word Arschloch

This is the world I want to live in!
L'europe c'est comme ça ;)
Boa noite.
Heck yeah. Go bull!
When you kill animals for sport, you can't be upset when the other team shows up.
I don't know anyone who doesn't root for the bulls, fuck bullfighting, fuck bullfighters, fuck the running of the bulls too. I hope everyone involved gets lifechanging injuries.
awww. poor guy. Maybe next time he shouldn't have participated in the torture of a live animal.
I always root for the bull.
Wife approved comment.
If the bull wins it should get to retire.
Fuck that. It should level up and get to pick improved armor and weapons and then go back to gore more asshole matadors.
“It was the most painful goring I have ever suffered in my career,” he told El Mundo newspaper from his hospital bed. “I felt enormous pain and I was very scared because I could tell that the bull had gored me and I thought I was bleeding a lot.”
Perspective switch
I am amazed how one can use these words while being totally oblivious to the feelings of pain and being scared that the animals go through.
Today he learned being poked by sharp things hurts
Nice one, bull. Right up the arse. 😁👍
Good
In Spain these guys will actually kill the bull in the Arena (hence the name "matador" - literally "killer"), so this is only fair.
PS: Mind you, not that "just" the part of torturing of the bull (the only part done in Portugal) is much better.
I'm glad that my community in Spain doesn't permit this animal abuse anymore.
I love the photo. That horn looks like it's getting a full tour of that fucker's Spanish colony.
So soon after a millionaire was stomped into paste by elephants?
I think things are actually getting better.
I've been giving Spain too much credit lately, but I forgot that this shit is still legal. Barbaric traditions from the past should stay in the past.
Yes but most people absolutely hate it. And some parts of Spain forbid it already.
The 10 cm wound perforating his rectum is the second biggest asshole, after the bull fighter himself.
How's the bull?
very serious condition with the 10-centimetre wound, which perforated his rectum,
I assume proud. He should be.
The bull will have to be proud from the afterlife, since killing them is the whole point of the performance. But you're right, he absolutely should be proud, good aim. And since he's taken down the supposed "finest bullfighter ever", we can recognize and remember this bull as the now undisputed champion of bullfighting, and the actual finest bullfighter ever. Let him be an inspiration to all future bulls fighting in this deplorable sport. Even though the bulls never win, I will celebrate their efforts to make as many humans lose as possible.
This brings me joy. I hope the bull is alright.

Oh no is the bull ok
Good job bull
Deserved.
Oh no, I hope he didn't injure his horns!
After initially being in a very serious condition with the 10-centimetre wound, which perforated his rectum, Morante is now recovering.
Get rekt!
Good
Cheers. Hoping he has lasting injuries and has trouble walking until his final days. Animal cruelty isn't cool.
He survived? They should let the bull in the hospital to finish the job
