At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday evening, an individual who was identified as male was seen

That’s a particularly wordy way to write “a man”.

I’m training myself to accept shipping fees as something that was always there. Amazon free shipping is just a hidden fee - the deliveries are still costing money. Amazon just masks that cost.

I see it the same as food delivery services having „free delivery“ when in fact they’re fucking the restaurants and drivers to get the piece they want.

It still rankles when I’m ordering something from Ontario that’s 8 bucks and shipping is 12.

He’s the guy on the bus desperately trying to make eye contact with anybody so he can endlessly talk about himself.

He’s why people stare at their phones during the entirety of their transit trip. You think there’s enough interesting shit on my phone to keep me that focused on it? No, man, I just see you flailing and flopping around in my periphery trying to get attention.

I have a petty one:

  1. Go to Settings and disable Apple Intelligence
  2. use Siri voice control for a task
  3. the Siri icon thing remains at the bottom of the screen because it’s listening for the next command.
  4. tap elsewhere on the screen

Expected: Siri goes away

Encountered: the tap does nothing - Siri will continue listening until you say “thank you” or turn off the screen.

Workaround: restart the phone and the problem goes away.

Everything is a drinking game for Pete Hegseth.

The only possible explanation for this not being fraud is that Tesla was sloppy about submitting the rebates for purchases going back months and months and months and they had to scramble to get the legitimate claims in before the program ran out of money.

But I’m pretty much 100% certain that’s not the case because if it were true, Tesla would be loudly saying that’s all it was. Instead it’s silence or poop emojis or whatever that idiot has their communications department doing now.

The tariffs will be lifted in no time.

This is the man who for over a decade has climbed onto his soapbox and complained endlessly about how you have to flush modern toilets 10 times. This is the obese man who subsists off fast food. That man uses a lot of toilet paper.

I think this is just a picky optimization.

The first one runs the constructor to instantiate a new string, then gets its class (which is presumably a static property anyway). The second doesn’t have to run any constructor and just grabs the static class name from the type.

Maybe there’s more implementation nuance here but it seems like an opinionated rule that has zero effect on performance unless that code is being called thousands of times every second. And even then the compiler probably optimizes them to the same code anyway.

They never reply whenever I respond to their survey question with wishes that they’re having a good day and asking how their data harvesting scam is going. ☹️

YSK there's an app called CNV CityFix you can install on your smartphone that allows you to review and report issues in your area that the city should address.

Every once in a while I'll see some egregious graffiti, dumped trash, tree debris blocking a path, etc. More often than not, someone has already reported the issue in the app and the City is aware of it and adds it to their list. Within a few days (or less), a crew with the right equipment comes out and addresses it.

Being able to snap a photo and send the location to the city to put it on their radar is great for both parties. The city gets quality reports about issues quickly, and residents have a low effort way to get them dealt with.

You can also search for reported issues nearby, and there's often laughs to be had at people's descriptions of their perceived problems, or particularly witty ways people describe legitimate issues.
