Hey I just got a RSS feed post about this topic

https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/Mqg2bqFw8k79sW7C2/you-should-try-contra-dancing

They give one example and explain the nuances of it but its really can be any sort of dancing or adult sports or board game nights or movement arts like taichi, judo, jiu jitsu, or climbing gyms for practicing bouldering, could be volunteering in some cases or LARPing, any sort of rexourring outdoor group that is physically away from devices and is pro social in a way that is low stakes where everyone has their attention on something else so the shy people have a easier time to get in

Either having a deep conversation or sharing an activity that we're both passionate about. Things involving genitals don't make it to that list in my case anyway. I count those as chores.

I really enjoy hiking, especially in the sort of places where you can explore and choose different routes ... hiking is nice, because you're getting exercise, fresh air, and you can talk to whoever you're with, with enough time to have a proper in-depth conversation.

And when you're out in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nature's beauty, you can fuck them.

Stuff that involves their genitals.

Playing music (jamming or performing) together. Nothing beats getting into a groove with fellow musicians.

[–] toomanypancakes@piefed.world 8 points 16 hours ago

That was far and away my favorite part of playing in a band. Shows are exhilarating and all don't get me wrong, but just a regular opportunity to jam with other people is fricking amazing. Good call!

Fish Pool Picnic Loaf

There's many other things that don't immediately involve any genitals... but, the night is young. May you find the right love, in all the right places

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

I always hated when the school cafeteria served us fish pool picnic loaf.

What's wrong with sharing a few good ol flapjacks with friends?

Just one person? And aside from pleasantly passing the time with random chatter...

Squash.

Loved playing squash with someone of similar ability, just socially keeping score in a endless game until we're too tired to play.

Thinking of nothing else for a time, focused on the game.

Sadly my health hasn't been up to that for a while now... But that was great.

As a group activity. Table-top RPG with long-running worlds.

Usually D&D but even system-less story-teller games. Whether running the game or playing it.

Role-playing with an experienced and familiar group of friends that can flip instantly in and out of character to chat about the game as much as play it - that's great fun. We could do that all day (and in some instances most of the night)...

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 9 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I really wanna just talk fringe topics...

Like alt timelines, butterfly effect, philosophy (especially ontology), space travel, aliens, fermi paradox, time dialation, black holes, you know, all the very werid stuff...

But unfortunately, people IRL seems to not like to talk about these things...

The other thing is just... I guess exchange life stories...

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago

My dude you just need better people. My spouse and I gab about stuff like this all the time.

Heatedly debate with them from a place of bad faith about events and concepts that are not actionable and we have no control whatsoever about, getting extremely winded up and emotional during the entire process, speaking louder than what's socially acceptable, using very cheap half baked arguments and ultimately appealing to made-up authority figures if they corner me, until they admit I'm right, even if just out of sheer exhaustion or sarcastic condescension.

Hey, I'll take what I can get.

hbu?

[–] finalarbiter@piefed.social 6 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

Either going for food or playing board/video games together!

[–] ace_garp@lemmy.world 4 points 9 hours ago

Board games!

Inis, Innovation, Bruges, El Grande, Finca, Jaipur, or Targi is an excellent time with other people.

Mountain biking in the rain. Biking is fun in general, but in the cold rain and mud, it's a mission you're on together.

[–] sicarius@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

We call this type 2 fun. It might not the most fun at the time but once you're off the hill and having a pint you say it was the best time ever, because you survived.
Also allows to I've climbing and skiing.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 4 points 7 hours ago

I challenge you to ride a mountain bike down a muddy hill, brakes on full lock, tyres skidding, while you barely manage to keep it upright and not have the most fun of your life! Yeah there are definitely parts that fall into that category of 'fun now that we're home' but a lot is primary fun.

[–] MuttMutt@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago

SCUBA diving. The best part about it is peeing on your buddy....

But seriously having someone to talk with after a dive where you have seen something amazing is a great thing.

I'm super bad at yappery most of the time, but when you have someone cool to yap with and are comfortable enough it can be super engaging. That's totally fair!

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

My wife and I began having a great conversation on our first date, and ten years later it's still ongoing.
