There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

After two solid days of struggling to keep my pants up while wearing a tool belt, I finally gave in and purchased my first set of overalls. First impression: they're actually pretty comfortable and they have lots of pockets.

That is all.

I thought this was leading to suspenders. Also very comfortable, and keep your pants up.

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 18 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I wish pants still came with buttons for braces.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 17 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Good news, buttons are super easy to sew on yourself.

[–] EvacuateSoul@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Or use bachelor buttons. I install them with an ice pick to punch a hole in the denim then a pair of channel locks.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Do you use the rivet kind or the screw kind?

[–] EvacuateSoul@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

They look like rivets when installed. There is a tack and the button part has a plastic female side that grips on.

Looks just like the main jeans button

Mine clip right on! I can wear em with shorts lol.

[–] weimaraner_of_doom@piefed.social 18 points 2 weeks ago

Suspenders were on the table. Went with overalls because I don't need them often and they're cheaper to replace than jeans.

Cargo shorts/trousers. People joke but the pocket options are amazing

[–] Creepo@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

Love the idea, hate the contents smacking my knees

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Cargo trousers made me chuckle.

Business cargoes

Well I'm sure I don't know. But you better park it!

Someday I'll be rich enough to make a tailor make that for me, a black tie fishing getup, with cargo pants and a waistcoat with pockets from shoulder to waist.

The flaps shall be secured with your finest of velcros, my good man, mmmm? hawhehawhehaw. Now I shall be off to the haberdashery for a bucket hat to match.

[–] hoch@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

My fraternity in college made me burn all of my cargo shorts

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

Guyabera shirt. Stylish. Extra pockets.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 weeks ago

Don't you guys have workpants or vests with pockets and loops that allow you to carry way too much stuff around?

[–] Subtracty@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

I'm always climbing in and out of trucks and heavy equipment and could never find reliable pants that realiably prevented plumbers crack without hiking them up all the time. Overalls are the shit. Comfortable and practical.

I often see old people walking with their hands behind their back, and I'm sure this too is some kind of realization of a walking style that takes 70 years to fully appreciate the superiority of.

[–] BlindFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

It's also to help your spine from regressing into fetal form

[–] zipsglacier@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I started doing this! It's really great for a stroll!

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

Love overalls and use them often. I also have a couple sets of suspenders that work very well with normal trousers. Big fan of suspenders.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 12 points 2 weeks ago

Woodworking apron is even better. Pockets? Check. Easy to take off? Check. Sturdy? Check. Make you look cool? Double check

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It's really hot when my wife wears just overalls

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 7 points 2 weeks ago

I'm sure it is.

I mean, one has to assume that the lack of extra layers is due to high temperatures. Otherwise she'd be uncomfortable.

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago

I wore overalls for years,

One day I really had to take a shit and struggled to get out of my overalls.

Long story short I shit all over the toilet as I was sitting down it had taken me to long to get out of them due to my shoulders

[–] null@lemmy.org 10 points 2 weeks ago

Suspenders, my guy.

[–] etchinghillside@reddthat.com 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Please consult us first before you cut the legs off for Summer.

[–] porcelainpitcher@lemmy.today 6 points 2 weeks ago

Lederhosen! Those crafty Germans!

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

I use suspenders with cargo shorts! Best of both worlds for summer!

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I have memories of stuff falling down in the gap where your arms go through because they’re not exactly snug against the hips. But my work tends to be dirty.

I just wear work pants. Suspenders are my next move.

[–] bluGill@fedia.io 6 points 2 weeks ago

Suspenders are great for tool belts - the waist is not near as good as the shoulders at carrying weight. The head is even better but that is for much larger loads and probably doesn't apply to what you are doing.

[–] redlemace@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I love these. The only type i buy these last years

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Proper tradie with those. Just missing the reflective bands.

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 6 points 2 weeks ago

Does your tool belt not have shoulder straps?

That's the key - let the belt be loose around the waist and use the shoulder straps to keep it up.

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Do you not wear a regular belt to keep your pants up? I actually found a bit of paracord works well, since there is no buckle to punch your gut when you bend over weird. I use a riff on a truckers hitch - bowline on one end, pass through with the other, tighten, then lock with a slippery half hitch.

[–] YellowParenti@lemmy.wtf 3 points 2 weeks ago

I remember when I was broke and going to any religious meeting for the pizza/donuts, i used a rolling hitch on some random rope I found. The lack of buckle definitely makes it comfortable.

[–] weimaraner_of_doom@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I do but the performance of a belt is heavily dependent on whats below it being wider than what's above it. 🤷‍♂️

[–] blarghly@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sounds like you need to do more deads 🍑

Can't argue with that.
