If I had a decent ubi, I'd go back to school full time, now that I'm getting the hang of it (doing college part time). So, of course I'd work less. This seems such a narrow scope of a ubi's impact

Just outta curiosity, where does the number before the word lawsuit come from? What is the $54 million calculated from, and why isn't it the hundreds of millions that the tarrif stupidity cost the company?

Edit: sorry, I have habit of not reading @.@
$54 million is what Crocs paid in duties, and they're asking for this amount back plus interest plus a pinky promise that they will never be hurt this way again. That's all I got from the article

Ohhh, I read your concern as how to grow in popularity, but... I can't read @.@

I think Litchralee pretty much detailed what I'd do. Use a separate phone, or ig in a browser. My bf had a yolo tablet once, to show his niece how easily "popular" he can get just by posting random cat memes. We learned that if you follow too many accounts at once or get too many follows quickly, they'll block your account until you do a facial scan, so... That was the end of that experiment, lmao.

If you find the people you meet are using bluesky, I can... with hesitancy... recommend wafrn? I only hesitate because the design intent is like tumblr, and I'm not sure if that's your vibe. It's activitypub and atproto compatible, so you can share your one account with both bluesky and fediverse users. You can even spin up your own wafrn instance.
For situational awareness, the alt-text requirement for photos is on by default, but you can turn that off in your wafrn account.

If you're in an urban kinda area, have you considered going to car meets and exchanging Instagram @s ?
Might be helpful to get your insta out there by going where the people already are.

Most if not all my local car meets all advertise their next meet up spot on insta either plainly or by code name. I didn't even post car pics, but organizers here (hawaii :) will follow anyone back, especially if they post car stuff.

I don't understand electronic parking brakes.

Having a big "Please Don't Move Unless Released" lever is very important to me, and I mean this earnestly.

It'd be on brand then - if they asked AI to write out an argument for them, they'd take credit for the whole essay & if found out, they'd claim it was what they wanted to convey anyway

Sauce? Or sarcasm?

Jfc, they'll dissolve Hawaii into the ocean

Sauce required plz

"I wrote it on the internet" isn't a good enough sauce for ppl, it's tasteless

Linux mint cinnamon 21 btw. I updated a bunch of applications yesterday. I couldn't tell you what got updated, I'm sorry. It was a bunch of stuff after not having updated much for several months.
(Edit: according to the modified date of my config files in /boot/, I might not've updated anything since January ):

On boot, I get the usual welcome from the motherboard screen:

AMIBIOS(C)2023 American Megatrends, Inc. ASUS PRIME B65OM-A AX ACPI BIOS Revision 1616
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core Processor Speed: 4500MHz
Total Memory: 32768MB (DDR5-4800)
USB Devices total: 0 Drive, 4 Keyboards, 3 Mice, 3 Hubs
Detected Storages...
SATA6G_1: Samsung SSD 860 EVO 2TB
SATA6G_2: HDC HD6OEFZX-68B3FNO
SATA6G_3: WDC WD6OEFRK-68LOBN1
SATA6G_4: WDC WDS200T2BOA
M.2_2: Samsung SSD 990 PRO with Heatsink 1TB

In case it's relevant, the gpu is a MSI 6700xt. I'm not sure why it says 4 keyboards & 3 mice, but I do have a lot of USB cables plugged into the back for various reasons (maybe 8? 10?).

Then there appear these error messages for a few seconds:

0.3400851 pci 0000:10:00.0: Failed to read data
1.0549851 hub 8-0:1.0: config failed, hub doesn't have any ports! (err -19)
3.5725731 usb usb1-port6: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad?

Then the monitor goes black (like, no signal black).

What should I do/check?

BRB, looking to see if I can still ssh into my pc with my windows laptop

EDIT UPDATE: I checked my pc's IP address on the router. It's connected to the router via ethernet, and it's detected, Mac address provided and all. Even thought it seems connected to my router, and it's powered on, I'm still not getting a response.

I'm trying to ssh with windows powershell on win10. "ssh blindfrog(notmyactualusername)@localipaddress" and all.

ssh: connect to host localipaddress port22: Connection timed out

If anything, I'm fine with replacing parts if I have to, even my drives. My /home and other important files are backed up to my NAS

UPDATE: ~~I booted off a USB stick with Mint, found the initrd.img on my desktop pc under /boot/ There's a lot of versions of initrd listed, it looks like? They were all last modified the time of my update spree yesterday. How do I inspect them? Right clicking, I don't get an option to "mount" them, nor am I sure how to do it in terminal. Opening the folder in terminal, then doing just "mount initrd.img" gets me:~~

~~mount: initrd.img: can't find in /etc/fstab.~~

Gonna try to get to my pc's bootloader :u

UPDATE: Found grub config file in my pc under: /etc/default/grub.d/50_linuxmint.cfg

I followed these instructions and added these lines to the end of the file:

GRUB_TIMEOUT="5"
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE="menu"

Now I'm stuck on how to "sudo update-grub", but do it for the desktop pc, not my bootable usb stick, lol

UPDATE: Found this resource involving chroot. I followed the "Manual Grub Restoration Method," but first had to unmount the automatically mounted drive to emulate the instructions.

I had a problem at step 4, after successfully doing

sudo mount --bind /dev /mnt/dev
I'm getting the response for each of the other bind commands:

sudo: unable to allocate pty: No such device

According to this source, I used --rbind instead at the first source's step 4, but kept getting the same "can't allocate pty" message.

UPDATE: Skipped all the above and went to chroot the automatically mounted drive with my OS

sudo chroot /media/mount/lotsoflettersandnumbers /bin/bash

Success! But "sudo update-grub" gets me:

/usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig: 37: /usr/share/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib: cannot create /dev/null: Permission denied
/usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?)

I'm not sure how to properly set up my system before chroot so update-grub will work
So I can get to my desktop's bootloader
So I can see if there's something to help me recover the previous kernel with sufficient drivers

If I don't have any leads on this adventure by tomorrow morning, I'll just reinstall with Mint 23 v.v
Sneak edit: I swear on my life one of the update notifications was the release of Linux Mint 23, but nowhere can I find it online now. I skipped it after my million updates because I didn't want to break anything; figured Mint 21 support was probably expiring soon & I'd look up people's takes on the new version before updating to it-- but now it doesn't exist?

Anyone here tried them, have a strong opinion about them maybe? Did you keep yours or sell it off?

I'm mostly curious about other people's experience with the long term quality.

I already have a ibanez mikro bass I've been learning on for a few months, and I plan to put flatwounds on it in. I'm looking at getting a second cheap af bass just to have one for different style songs. I'm considering picking up one (bass version) off fb marketplace.

Title, basically? Thank you for help, if you might know where Asrock keeps a complete list, haha.

Working with a B550 pg velocita and trying to upgrade the cpu from a ryzen 3 (3000-something) to a ryzen 5 3600. It's working with the ryzen 3. The code showing up on the mobo's led screen for debug codes is 7C, but I can't find what it means anywhere.

Bios is updated to the latest because of efforts to use a ryzen 5 5600x with it, but kept getting F9 code before and after bios update.

Just bought and am looking through/sorting out my cards, lol.

This temple, it looks like some Alamo-reminiscent base of a building, someone in a ghost sheet standing on top, and of top of that person's head is a crescent (moon?) with a globe in the middle. It's set next to/at the bottom a cliffside, surrounded by green forest below, a little lake/river ~~future~~ further below, dead tree trunks framing the sides of the scene closer to the viewer. Link to the card for reference: https://www.mtgnexus.com/cards/doctor-who/88238-temple-of-mystery

Added context for why I'm asking: I've only watched NuWho, from the 9th to the end of the 12th/clara's arc so far

I hope it's the right term. I'm primarily looking for live pitch-shifting for funsies. Even a little delay in the output is alright for me.

I spent a while futsing around with wireplumber gui/pipewire to get Lyrebird to work to no effect. I tried routing my mic audio through Lyrebird and sometimes through sox, and then forwarded their audio to obs, but - no effects got applied. Sounded like my regular mic sound. I did make sure to activate pipewire to manage the audio instead of just pulseaudio.

Hoping for a recommendation before I spend another evening experimenting.

Okay, okay. They calculated for the former expected rate of inflation.

UI is from the Boost for Lemmy app

I'm considering it, and yet... considering not to. Like, if I'm travelling, I could put up a pngtuber, and run a light game. But also... Life before stream, amiright?

Have you used your SD for streaming to another platform? Was it pretty feasible? What should I consider dialing in? =3=

Vanilla Raft runs fine. From steam, I set it to run with compatibility layer Proton 9.0-4.

When I follow the modding site's instructions here, Bottles launches steam, which launches the mod loader, which asks me to find steam's Raft folder for it. But I can't find it.
Within the file navigation window that pops up, I go to Z:\ drive, then \mnt\thatoneHDDfullofsteamgames\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Raft, but the Raft exe isn't shown.

What should I do? Or is there another way I should try?

I'm sending this from my phone, so I apologize I'm not sure what the best way to provide clear screenshots is

TLDR; post title - does this exist?

Something that can do what OBS can do (compression, gain, volume, etc) but on a physical panel & can be mapped to hotkeys?

I'm checking here in case I'm just bad with picking the right search terms.

Or, have any suggestions for what sound management can use midi keys as hotkeys? I have a midi keyboard, if it can serve as a workaround. This isnt a neeeeed, just a nice-to-have. I worked for a hot minute with a sound mixer for a few panels recently, and it got me interested in getting one but for linux.

I also saw Soundux. It looks like it has all the must-haves of what I'm looking for. I'm just having trouble telling from the website if it can take midikeys as it's hotkeys. Some programs don't, like obs.

(uhh, mint btw?)

Also quick question, what [tag] should I put in the title for troubleshooting? Thank you

Issue: pc does not display with upgraded cpu

Build/parts available:

  • Asrock b550 phantom gaming (PG) velocite. Updated bios to v3.4. its PDF manual linked here
  • Amd ryzen 5 5600x, trying to upgrade it from a ryzen 3 of the 3000 series. Both are AM4. The ryzen 5 requires a gpu for display, the ryzen 3 has integrated graphics
  • 1060 gpu (temporary, eventually going to be replaced with a secondhand Nvidia gpu, possibly 2070)
  • HDMI cords available atm only
  • 750w psu
  • 2x16 ddr4 (~2800 or so) ram

Sorry for some of the imprecision here. It's a fam's pc, and I could get the part #s later as suggested.

When powering on pc with the ryzen 5 cpu, all fans spin (even the gpu's), all rgb lights turn on, but nothing displays through the gpu. There is a red led display showing changing 2-character codes during boot; it stops and hangs on code F9 with the ryzen 5 cpu. This is ASROCK's Dr Debug code display to help diagnose issues. The manual for this particular mobo does not list F-series codes. The above build works fine and automatically outputs display through the 1060 with the ryzen 3 cpu installed.

Things I've checked:

  • PSU is on, cables plugged in fully, all devices needing power cables (SSDs, mobo, cpu, gpu) are seated well
  • Reseated gpu and ram. No change in outcome with ryzen 5 cpu.
  • Updated drivers up the wazoo, windows 10 OS.
  • CPU power pins on motherboard: only the 8 pin half is plugged in on the mobo. Pc does not power on with the additional 4pin socket plugged in for either cpu.
  • Bios updated to version 3.4 to ensure 5000 series cpu should work with this mobo. Bios update flashed using the old CPU. The bios gave no error messages, and said it updated successfully. I don't remember what the old bios version was, but the power on process hung at Dr Debug code F9 for the ryzen 5 both before and after updating the bios. No display before or after bios update.
  • Debug code F9: the only sources I've checked out so far were this one listing the codes and this one person with a similar code output.. I'm not sure what more to do with this information, unless I just try flashing the bios again? From v3.4 to v3.4 again? Idk? But it seems like a lead only because I have done so much physical troubleshooting already.
  • Reset cmos by unplugging psu/turning off, and removing cmos battery and jumping the cmos-reset pins for a few minutes.
  • Display output settings: checked if the BIOS settings had a setting to switch/force use of gpu for display; I found no such thing for this mobo. I couldn't tell if windows has any such feature, not that I think it would matter since the pc couldn't get to boot with the ryzen 5.

I've switched out the CPUs so many times trying different configurations, I'm down to the watery last of my thermal paste tube. I even loaned my AMD gpu, and we're getting the same outcome: lights and gpu/case fans working, debug code F9, & no display. I left the ryzen 3 in just to at least leave the pc in a working state. Before I drop by the store to pick up paste, I'd rather have an action plan.

Hoping someone has advice for things I haven't tried yet. Thank y'all for reading this far.

Edit: clarity, my bad

If there isn't yet, what're the challenges to overcome in making one?

Not that I can code, just hoping for at least a layman's understanding.
