Comic Strips
Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.
Rules
-
π Be Nice!
- Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
-
ποΈ Community Standards
- Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
- Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
- Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
- Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
-
𧬠Keep it Real
- Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
-
π½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due
- Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
- Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
-
π Post Formatting
- Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
- Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
- When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
β Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
β Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
-
π¬ Post Frequency/SPAM
- Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 π) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 π) will be removed.
-
π΄ββ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
- Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,

πΏ Moderation
- We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
- When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Web Accessibility
Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.
When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:
Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Seems to have a mind of its own though
Technically zero emissionsβ¦ just questionable horsepower π
Zero emissions? Do centaurs never fart?
Hello.
Though I'm not taking you onto the HOV lane.
If your centaur can giddy-up fast enough, you're technically qualified for the HOV lane.
Self driving and won't run against a roadnunner fake tunnel
might drink and ~~drive~~ gallop
So 1 horsepower or .5 horsepower?
Fun fact: On average, horses have 7 horsepower.
Can I blame inflation for this?
IIRC, it's actually based on donkeys, or something like that. Basically, this is just misleading marketing once again.
~99% of horses are 1 horsepower, there's just one horse from Nevada who was locked in a barn during those nuclear tests in the 50's putting the others to shame.
It's a really strong lock. It has to be.
Well it's better than ~99% of locks now.
I mean⦠Technically, you can blame anything you want for anything.
Okay i'm going to need some help figuring out how to blame Obama for this though. I already got the cork boards and yarn ready
- Obama got elected in 2008
- the common abbreviation for the year 08
- Obama is the first black President
- 08 - 1 = 7
- average horse has 7 horsepower
Source: Math
got dammit i knew it
Jeeniouus!
in some European countries we have a special kind of horsepower that's called the "tax horsepower" (cheval fiscal, symbol CV in France), or "what kind of eldritch formula do we need to transform that unit into a vehicle classification tool for tax purposes".
We've had several formulas, and the current one has come around to being kind of an actual (rounded) power unit. Previous ones involved carbon dioxide levels, gearbox efficiency and whether you're using gasoline or diesel.
So if I am applying one of those, I believe a horse has exactly NaN CV.
okay how many horses does my hammer have

inb4 beep runs this through an ai slop machine and removes author attribution
Look at my totally original creation

I should make a website called "imadethis" that lets you upload any picture and it just does this and adds you as the creator. It would be really funny if someone stole this idea π

Those of us who have them blocked will never know!
Oh right, the constant army of newly-created alts... (bc "no" just means "try harder" to some)
I mean it's literally machine learning. Every time it's blocked it learns that it was detected as human and then tries again.
Lemmy needs a shadow ban function for these accounts
Maybe, but the mere fact that Reddit has it predisposes me to shy away from that solution π€£
Bc fuck spez!
(you might be correct though)
I find nothing wrong with stealing features from Reddit. Lemmy is a link aggregator, like Reddit.
Shadow banning shouldn't be used on humans who are annoying but would for spammers.
Unhelpful bots should be shadow banned if they keep evading bans
I believe that bots already are sucked into honeypots, though mostly in an instance-dependent manner (and once one gets created on one instance, it can then propagate its content out to all).
This particular user still shows up because they are an annoying human.
I reported a few of their things these last few days. They got banned or had a ton removed.
did the mod wake up?
I guess?
Beep even had that new account now and made their own community for comics and the only role is no watermark lol.
wait a new community? i don't want to punch down but i really want to make fun
If theyβre content to post to their own comm, leave them be. At worse youβll make them abandon it and start posting elsewhere again.
Isn't that slavery? Or is the centaur only selling rides?
Either way, the guy should buy his ride a coffee or something.
imagine horse shit x coffee
Β£15,000 for a new car?
I wish
new cars on czech market, prices in gbp equivalent
- dacia sandero: ~12150
- hyundai i10: ~12600
- skoda fabia: ~13000
- kia ceed: ~13600
you can't expect luxury limousine for that price, but that doesn't mean there are no cars in that segment.
Meanwhile in the us:
- Toyota Corolla: $23,125 + taxes & fees
- Honda Civic: $24,695 + taxes & fees
- Hyundai Elantra: $22,625 + taxes & fees
well 23k usd is ~17k gbp.
and cheapest corolla i can find (new, but 2025 model) is ~20350 gbp (~27300 usd), 2026 models start about 4300 gbp/5700 usd higher.
not sure what your taxes+fees are, but it suddenly doesn't look as such big difference. not sure if what you listed is cheapest that is available on a market there, i am sure you americans generally like bigger cars, but what i chose are really the cheapest (and therefor smallest) available cars on the local market.
The BYD Atto 1 should be around that I think?
Not in the US π
They bought more of an amalgam, or a chimera, which is a different kind of mythological beast, but also a general term for part of one thing joined to a very different other thing.
A hybrid would be something like a mule: A cross between a male donkey and a female horse
