It's actually quite nice, conversations seem like you can get heard and people are generous with upvotes. It's like Reddit was in 2010, but it's been that way for a couple years (for me) now. I hope it continues.
Fediverse
A community to talk about the Fediverse and all it's related services using ActivityPub (Mastodon, Lemmy, Mbin, etc).

Depends on what instance and what opinion you are towing, still. Though it is still a far cry better than Reddit.
It's easier to choose and curate for oneself. Blocking comms actually works (even if blocking instances or users doesn't). I don't see any tankie comms anymore, even if I still have to argue with .ml users in comments on other threads.
And even though mods can ban from communities or instances, no automated admin bots can give you a site-wide ban over petty reasons. I can say I hate nazis without getting my entire IP banned for "hate speech"...
Lemmy does seem to have some insular thinking (just like all social media communities). Feels like you can actually have discussion and at least learn why people hold those views instead of just being chastised.
Welcome. It's smaller, but the people are better. Most of them, anyway. Sometimes some of them are brilliant and amazing, just like on Reddit. Sometimes some of them suck (sometimes including me) but it's not so overwhelming because there aren't as many. Small is beautiful, even if it is a little quieter than you're used to. You'll get used to it though, and it's better for your mental health.
I love it being smaller. I actually read people's usernames here because there is a non zero chance I run across them again in the future and that makes me happy :3
We're glad you are here!
Welcome!
Welcome! This is a real place with real people. Far less rage bait and bots.
Welcome! You better pick a favorite Linux distro to argue about in the comments :D
I don't use Linux but I like mint, it's cool and refreshing and green is a nice color
Heck yeah! I've been trying to actively make the switch too. Getting away from big-tech algorithmically-driven social media platforms feels very nice. I do miss a few of the communities I was a part of that don't have a counterpart here, but I'll get used to it eventually.
The community here is much nicer than reddit currently is. It feels more tight-knit. Almost like reddit was twelve or thirteen years ago.
Welcome!
Keep in mind there's no algorithm pushing things on us here, so it's best to seek out and subscribe to as many communities as you have interests. :) If there's a niche community on Reddit that you miss having here, consider making it yourself. Also, the most you can post and comment the better!
One thing that's nice about the Fediverse compared to corporate social media is that there is far less bullshit, fewer ancient reposts by people pretending to post original content, almost no AI slop, etc... It's really nice, in my opinion. Reddit certainly has a larger quantity of stuff, but I think modernly the quality has become quite low.
Nice to have you.
Yeah that is exactly what I'm doing. It seems piefed has a bit more stuff than lemmy and a little more active so I chose here for the most part. Thank you for the tip!
For the most part you should be able to see things across apps and servers.
For example, I'm logged into fedia.io, which runs the Mbin software, and this thread is on lemmy.world, running the Lemmy software.
It can take a while to wrap your head around all this stuff, but personally I find it really cool to be part of an infinitely scalable reddit alternative. 😄
In Australia, your username is a reference to dangerous Ford Ranger car drivers.
I did not know this but this is very funny!
Hey welcome, we got everything here.. linux, socks, goths, furries, tankies, weed, owls, cozy memes, you know pretty much all your basics.
I'm definitely here for the linux and the furries lol. I use arch btw.
Congrats on making the jump! Have a nice time with us on Lemmy and Piefed.
The more the merrier! Glad you're here :)

I deleted my Facebook after downloading all of my files, same with reddit. Never going back. Currently dropping Google as much as I can and it has been a major headache figuring things out and transferring... I think it'll be worth it. Wish a lot more people would do the same.
If you are willing to talk about it I am genuinely interested where you migrate to - away from google. What services did you use most?
Not OP, but in progress as well
Email is pretty easy.
Google docs is less easy if you need to collaborate with people professionally, but you can always go back to PDF, email, and openoffice to a point
Android phone is hard, I could go to Apple, but I don't really like them any more than Google. I have drones and cameras that only want to talk through Android/iOS. Losing my Android app purchases is a bit bitter.
Pay-to-tap is hard. I can move to Garmin eventually, but they're really expensive, and there's only like one model that's good for it. I can always just use my credit card to tap through.
Non-Apple/Android Bluetooth watches are underwhelming or expensive AF (Garmin, for example, still requires Apple or Android for the initial setup and is expensive).
OAUTH is a major sticking point. I log in to a LOT of stuff with my Google ID.
I also have a legacy Google Workspace; they host my domain email, my domain OAuth, and my family calendar is all over there. They're all sharing through it.
There's no good replacement for Waze. No crowd-sourced traffic is good at routing you from state to state around large metro areas. There are loads of maps. but nothing dependable for anything other than a short ish trip.
have you read about graphene OS? its an android replacement. currtly works on pixel phones but motorolla recently announced that they will be actively supporting it

Welcome!
hope you like beans
every drink bailey's from a shoe?
I'm huge on beans. I'm not a bailey's guy though. I prefer Five Farms myself.
Nice.
Welcome! You’ll see the same people over and over again, but it’s really nice.
Enjoy your time and contribute! I only try to contribute with comments and not too much content, but maybe eventually.
Paul is that you?
Send Ringo my love
Welcome to the family!
Welcome!
Please, help growing Lemmy/PieFed. Create content and engage!
Welcome aboard Ranger !
Don't ever forget why you left. If you don't like something, be part of the solution.
Hope you have a great time here!
I absolutely intend to and thank you for the encouragement
Off topic but your username almost matches my current DnD character: Ranger Dangerfield, a level 6 Ranger.
Welcome, friend :).
Love me some d&d friend. have fun!
Welcome in! There's lots to enjoy about Lemmy. Hope you come to see it's value over time.
If you have any questions, like how federation (i.e. Fediverse) works or how to block, let me know!
Welcome, fellow PieFed user! Our group is smaller, but that means you can have a bigger impact here. If you don't see enough of a type of content, try to post some here yourself. A little push can send us far.
Welcome, fren! :3
Welcome!
Enjoy!
