Ok, if this is anything more than lip-service appeasement, get him the fuck out. We don't need the Liberals to be socially conservative patsies.

He was answering a hypothetical question. If Iran attacks a NATO country we might join the operation if that country asks.
Listen here pal, you take that important distinction and shove it. This here is the headline rage train 😡🚂
He seems to have inconsistent opinions on where Canada should stand on the war. My impression is he's trying to play Swiss in this moment and is a bit out of his depth.
It's more likely biased interpretations of his intentionally politically phrased language.
Pulling DND personnel out of the area speaks more about the truth of the matter.
And Carney's subsequent statements do clarify that Canada won't be joining the US and Israel in their offensive.
But that we might join the defence of an ally if they get attacked and if there is a NATO involvement in that defensive action.
Those positions are very much different that what some commentators are suggesting.
His clarifications help. His initial statement was ambiguous, particularly after his misstep regarding Iranian nuclear weapons. I understand the political impulse to keep your statements from writing checks you can't cash down the road, but he also has to be careful about the tone he sets or he risks coming off as having no conviction. Offering a vague statement while your attention is elsewhere is not the level of clarity the situation called for.
Yes yes, it was hypothetical, but the Epstein Memorial War on Iran can absolutely spin out of control here. It's not a very far-fetched hypothetical! I think we should "categorically rule out" involvement in the Epstein Memorial War on Iran.
I like your name for the war!
Hopefully "consider" goes at same pace as considering not buying the enemy's kill-switched F35s. But it was truly shameful to endorse demonic religious supremacist empire's illegal war, with only the objective of destroying Iran for benefit of more Israeli atrociites. He made this endorsement with full clarity of the pure demonic evil he was endorsing.
This is the same guy who hired Gregor Robinson as housing minister, a guy who said housing was an investment vehicle and oversaw Vancouvers fastest increase in price in history.
He's obviously two faced liar out only for his own interests, but in Canada we call that a Liberal. Vote NDP, or literally anything else unless you want more of the same.
He's a banker through and through. Not sure why any of this is surprising.
Every war is a bankers' war, Carney is a banker above all else. When his masters yank his chain he will do whatever they order him to do, including joining the Epstein Memorial War on Iran.
I thought it is Operation Epstein Fury?
That also works.
Unless we’re peace keeping, we stay out of the quagmire
Can you please provide the direct link? It's asking me to sing-in to Google to view it here.
fucking idiot
One thing Carney definitely isn't, is that.
No, but this might be an area of limited expertise for him.
The fuck is he doing right now.
Built up all that political capital in Davos for what?
Apparently for people to fly off the handle at a headline that completely ignores what he said.
I wonder how much more reasonable the political discourse would be if people would just read the damn articles.
Well... it IS a video. Not an article.
I watched the video my guy.
I tend to agree with you. He said:
“One can never categorically rule out participation,” he said.
“We will stand by our allies, when it makes sense. There’s a distinction between the offensive actions that were taken and are being taken by the United States and Israel, that were taken by them without consultation with Canada, with other allies, and we’re not party to those actions.
“But we will always defend Canadians, we will always stand by and defend our allies when called upon.”
The right answer would be to make like a Conservative and not answer. He can't piss off Trump, but he knows Canadians (outside of a few communities) aren't into this shit. Saying maaaaaaybe walks back most of his appeal from Davos.
Carney is not a great politician. He doesn't know when to shut up (hence his statement of support for the war in India). So far he's lucked into the right moment. I'm not sure what the next few years will bring.
The speech was always only about threats to canada and greenland
This is a discussion where the Austrlian press needles Carney on topics related to Iran, as they should. Carney's threading a tight situation and discussing many things in hypotheticals, but this took the Canadian PMO and many other world leaders aback.
