It's YouTube music, which is showing popular "podcasts" on its explore page. Must be just because it's popular because nothing in my algo on either youtube or YouTube music would suggest this shit.

Why is he wearing Templar tabard? The Templars were barely restrained religious fanatics that hoarded wealth and placed themselves above those around them…oh. So incel republicans?

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 11 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Part of fascism is reducing everything to an aesthetic.

Make it all conformity and make it easy to exclude others.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Much like an armband. Maybe with your fascist logo on it.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

your fascist logo

Excuse you?

Never thought I'd ever need to explain Nazi swastika armbands to someone....

they just thought the "you" was personal, but it is general

Those are sharp words, mind where you point them.

Again, highly unnecessary to be this combative. If you're looking for Nazis to argue with online, either:

  1. Value your time better
  2. Look elsewhere, this is goddamn Lemmy

YouTube algorithm tries really hard to make me far right every few months. It suddenly starts recommending me fox news and "progressives destroyed in a debate" type shit videos. Usually lasts about a day.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 93 points 1 week ago (7 children)

I bet somebody is paying for that shit to pop into your feed.

lots of the religious right think that if you just see it, you're going to agree and like, you know, become one of them. Which is funny because I find those kinds of content repulsive.

(Clint's Reptiles, though? oh yeah. dude's a legend.)

[–] Robonauta@piefed.co.za 25 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Or you'll fall for the bait, hatewatch and comment, which will help boost the video

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nope.

Right click the dots “don’t recommend this channel.”

That slop doesn't work on us, but there are an alarming number of people who see content and just agree with it. No critical thinking whatsoever. I used to think that was just the Boomers and maybe some jaded Gen X folk; but the mass-dependency on generative AI showed me that Gen Z and Millenials are just as susceptible.

Weird. Youtube doesn't do that to me. It is insistant however that I need to watch AI made videos about why linux is better than linux.

No, not a typo. The titles are usually along the lines of "Is Mint better than linux? Lets find out!"

Or

"Ubuntu just can't compete with Linux!"

And the one time I accidently clicked one of these videos, it was the most obvious AI slop you'd ever seen.

Maybe it doesn't suggest these right wing videos because they see how much Steven Colbert, and Last Week Tonight I watch.

Then there's the weird videos. Not AI. Just......weird.

Like the video of a teenager dipping a pickle into a jar of tostitos queso, and repeatedly saying "pickles n cheese, pickles n cheese, pickles n cheese...." while making squishing noises with the cheese.

But since I clicked it, and watched 30 seconds of it, youtube now reccomends me videos from time to time of this guy doing random things with pickles.

I miss when it reccomended the guy with the duck. The duck was cool.

Ah yes, the Charlie Kirk "we selectively found 10 dumb people to debate and then edited out any part where they come across okay" genre.

Stop using streaming services and set sail

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 40 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can also buy drm free music from sites like Bandcamp. I don't feel bad buying from smaller groups. Joyride! might actually notice the $10 from me buying their new album.

"The algorithm" pushes outrage content because it's so radioactive that it even gets you to post it here. It's just that potent.

Is that the show where the guy invites on OF models, then insults and humiliates them? Where the models are only going on there because so many of his listeners then subscribe to their OF?

wow that thumbnail is disgusting. 10 fucking hours of this garbage!? and this is "popular" content... which supposedly means people actually watch this.

Quick callout to all the people who nodded along to stuff like this for the last 3 years; then whine about marginalized folks being "so political" about ongoing genocides. </3

I started watching a lot of home-improvement type videos on YouTube, and suddenly since then all the ads now assume my dick is horribly bent and doesn’t work, and that I uncontrollably shit and piss myself.

It’s so pervasive I can’t even watch YouTube on my living room TV with my young kids around because I would have to explain way too much to them.

[–] Madzielle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

A few years back I dived in to men's mental health on youtube. My husband and I were in a rough patch and I just wanted to see some content created by men to maybe reach/understand him better.

the aglo went.. bananas. I couldnt believe how fast shit went to a scary and innapropriate place. Nothinh was helpful in tje end.

Man who hates a group of people vs group of people.

We should skip to the final evolution of this show where its Man who hates a group of people vs that group of people but all of them have guns.

Just pirate your music. It's more ethical than giving money to Google or Spotify. If you want to support some musicians, buying a single piece of merch probably makes them more money than a lifetime of listening to them on a streaming service.

And now it's in my Lemmy. Don't propagate the brainless cunt and give them another platform, just downvote and ignore.

Youtube music got weird for me, about a week or two ago. I have it as part of my YT subscription, I barely use it. I opened it the other day and they recently started pushing this obviously AI generated like... porn music. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

Such gems like "I flashed me gash & got free bread"

Yes, I did listen to one of them out of curiosity, and now it won't stop recommending the filth even though I've blocked 20 of the songs and said don't show me stuff like this.

Qobuz, Tidal or Deezer, dude. All of them actually pay the artists for their streams. I've used two first and both of them are great for music.

Incel propaganda on an app developed by Alphabet? Surely the first time this has ever happened.

[–] vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Came in to this thread not knowing what an Andrew Wilson was. Still don’t but, feel better about it.

That's why I prefer to store my music locally. Soulseek is the answer

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (3 children)

Am I the only one who stores music just as discrete files, stored in my filesystem, in folders? Don't need any app for that. Works great. 100% cross-system compatible, works on every operating system and every device.
