They approximated that 112 million francs was actually paid in indemnity, which is equivalent to $560 million in 2022 after adjusting for inflation.

Many countries have billionaire rulers. However Japan during WW2, or Belgian occupation in Africa are viewed as having taken worse actions than billing Haiti for independence.
