Welcome to YUROP
The Ultimate Eurozone of Culture, Chaos, and Continental Excellence

A glorious gathering place to celebrate (and lovingly roast) the lands, peoples, quirks, and contradictions of Her Most Magnificent Europa. From the fjords to the Med, the steppes to the Atlantic spray, this is a shrine to everything that makes Europe gloriously weird, wonderfully diverse, and occasionally passive-aggressive in 24 languages.

Here we toast:
🇪🇺 The progressive Union of Peace (and paperwork)
🧀 The freest of health care
🍷 The finest of foods
🏳️‍🌈 The liberalest of liberties
🌍 The proud non-members and honorary cousins 💶 And the eternal dance of unity, confusion, and cultural banter.

Post memes, news, satire, linguistic wars, train maps, cursed food photos, Eurovision fever, propaganda and whatever makes you scream “only in YUROP.”

Leave your stereotypes at the border control and enjoy the ride.

We're gonna build a nuclear wall around Europe. A big wall. A HUGE wall. And America is gonna pay for it!

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

I'd be happy if world leaders just kept saying more and more obviously smartass shit like this until Trump is so enraged that he finally strokes out.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Taunting a senile lunatic is... probably not a great strategy. But god it would be funny.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

It's an excellent strategy, so long as you can anticipate his next moves and preempt them.

It's a dumb strategy if he can rampage and you have no way to stop him.

Well, he is in full control of the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

France has it's fair share of nukes, too. And we're a far distance from a US/France war, much less a nuclear war.

But there's a very good chance Trump would fuck with the French economy. At that point, we all know Macron would fold instantly.

Appeasing the senile lunatic ended up with him being upset at us anyway. Might as well push as far as it goes, and then a centimeter more.

A senile lunatic with sole command over the American nuclear football, no less!

A part of me still likes to believe that someone was smart enough to cut the wire to the littel red button before he took office for the second time.

They're outright evil. And yes...they're irresponsibly stupid. But not THAT stupid. Miller and co. would have made sure that when the little red button gets pushed, it's on their time, not because the syphillitic orange muppet whose ass they have their hands up decides to have a dementia moment.

The football contains launch codes but he can't press the button himself.

Don't worry, Trump doesn't understand fact checks. He'll think it's real, and that's all that matters.

[–] DonAntonioMagino@feddit.nl 14 points 5 days ago (3 children)

200 years after Napoleon we’ll all end up speaking French anyway...

[–] Denjin@feddit.uk 5 points 5 days ago

Playing the long game

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 3 points 5 days ago

We just need a small imperialistic Québec era and we can get get North America all speaking French

[–] Meron35@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago

Actually not too crazy. By demographic trends, some reckon French will be the dominant language due to its high prevalence in Africa, which is undergoing a demographic boom.

[–] xylogx@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So like the same thing they are doing in Haiti?

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (3 children)

The Haitian independence debt (French: Dette d'Indépendance Haïtienne) involves an 1825 agreement between Haiti and France that included France demanding an indemnity of 150 million francs in five annual payments of 30 million to be paid by Haiti in claims over property, including Haitian slaves, that was lost through the Haitian Revolution in return for diplomatic recognition. Haiti was forced to take a loan for the first 30 million, and in 1838 France agreed to reduce the remaining debt to 60 million to be paid over 30 years, with the final payment paid in 1883. However, according to a 2022 The New York Times analysis, because of other loans taken to pay off this loan, the final payment to debtors was actually made in 1947. They approximated that 112 million francs was actually paid in indemnity, which is equivalent to $560 million in 2022 after adjusting for inflation.

Fucking Wild. Friendly reminder that France is a horrible country run by people in a race to the bottom against England, Spain, and Germany.

The only country I can think of to have such a Euro-centric view while only knowing 4 of them is the US.

Those 4 have a long way to go before they're as shite as you.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Those 4 have a long way to go before they’re as shite as you.

It's all the same people. Transnational corporations, billionaire international investors and bankers, and their gaggle of Ivy League friends who all went to the same country clubs and boarding schools.

Bernard Arnault and Donald Trump have more in common than you and your local Parliamentarian.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Many countries have billionaire rulers. However Japan during WW2, or Belgian occupation in Africa are viewed as having taken worse actions than billing Haiti for independence.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The Belgian occupation of Africa and the French colonization of Hispaniola had quite a bit in common.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago

True but they quoted the collection after independence before claiming it's a race to the bottom.

Also shows that it's more than just those 4 countries.

[–] faercol@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I'm French, and while I can't speak for the other three countries, France is definitely heading the same way as the US

[–] Tinidril@midwest.social 3 points 4 days ago

Maybe the fate of the US will inspire a different course. As an American, I definitely support our demise serving as a warning to others.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 days ago

You can correct me but weren't the Huguenots a better example of terrible things you've done?

[–] xylogx@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Did you read the part about the Coup? This is what started Haiti’s current spiral into chaos and was orchestrated by France, Canada and the US.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Oh yeah. Americans love their Regime Change.

[–] ChrisDoeser@feddit.org 3 points 4 days ago

As much as I repel this action by the french State, I think it's quite unfair to criticize the currently leadership for that.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 5 points 4 days ago

Please tell me this is real!

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago

Eeh, proxy wars are never profitable.
