Babysitting my mom’s three cats. She left a box of Churu. They like them a lot. I was surprised. I thought it was just a few rare internet videos I have watched. Cats really like this.

One of my cats climbed on top of the cabinets and ate an entire box of churu after she tried it once. That stuff is like cat crack I swear

Cats eat by sense of smell before taste. Churu is basically thin tapioca pudding (not dairy but texture-wise i mean) with a shitload of strong scents in it that drive them absolutely wild!

[–] Holytimes@sh.itjust.works 1 points 23 hours ago

My cat weirdly aggressively hates them. She hisses at them and tries to bite me the like two times iv ever offered her one.

She normally doesn't even purr she makes no noises and gets scared if she catches her self making any. So for her to actively hiss is wild.

Cats are wierd

Churu is the fucking real deal. I have this cat that has already lost a kidney and the other is very bad, he was very very skinny and I tried all kinds of treats and tasty things for him to eat, he spent three days getting IV fluids in the vet and the vet said he liked Churu so I bought it... anyway, this was three years ago, the last time we did a blood test and his creatinine wouldn't fall below 5. He is still alive, the motherfucker is even chubby, he is moved by Churu, I think he is only alive so he can have more Churu, we give him from 4 to 7 everyday... I don't even dare to do a blood test again, how he has no clinical symptoms of his severe kidney failure after so many years and still has shining fur is crazy

Aww! We also learned of Churu because of our elder kitty. She passed last year, 20+yrs old. It ended up becoming her only meals aside from meds/supplements. It made me glad to see her still enjoying things and having energy to get around unlike when we were just using the rx food, which she didn't like.

I'm sorry for your loss. She was gorgeous. RIP Churu queen

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well how about you shut up right now because I love him

[–] Yankee_Self_Loader@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I would literally die for Dali

not before me, you won't!

[–] Whostosay@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

mf is already making me hostile. Look at his power stance

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I would like to apply for a housecat position, I will be happy with just 5 treats a day, plus lunch and dinner. I can also meow at you for seemingly no reason, and run around the house in the middle of the night. I can push things off of surfaces as well, though rarely just to keep things exciting.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Can you do subQ fluids at home? That, plus a low phosphorus diet, can really help! Tanya's feline CRF page has a lot of good info on it.

[–] PiraHxCx@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I started with subcutaneous but after some time it wasn't putting a dent on creatinine levels so I went to intravenous once a week, but then he developed phlebitis, so I changed to once every two weeks and alternating between front and back legs (he is not dehydrated btw). He won't eat anything but Churu now, and I will never introduce another cat to Churu because they go crazy and then you can't give anything else lol - I tried cheaper local brands, other cats absolutely loved when he didn't even try so I gave it to them :P
I have another cat with kidney problems and she is on a low phosphorus diet already, but him? He doesn't even try to taste it

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 3 points 2 days ago

It looks like you've got a really good handle on his issues then - I wish all of you long, healthy and happy lives together :)

I have never heard of Churu and everything here reads like Churu product placement

[–] TonyTonyChopper@mander.xyz 8 points 1 day ago

It's just meat purée in a tube

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would guess it's catnip in a bar.. but I don't know shit all about cats

[–] IamSparticles@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

It's basically just watered-down cat food in a tube. And, honestly, not all cats like it. We have one cat that will eat it, but only if I squirt it out onto a plate. The other cat won't even touch the stuff.

[–] hereiamagain@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

I've heard of it. My cat doesn't care for it.

Which is funny because he's fat, and very food motivated. Jumps off the couch when his auto feeder runs.

Like, he'll eat the tube stuff, but not out of the tube, and he doesn't go crazy for it. Very odd.

My buddies cats like it though, so 🤷‍♂️

[–] waggz@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

my cats have no interest in it. i was very disappointed with my purchase and had to mix it in with their wet food to get rid of it

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 days ago (3 children)

We ruined it for our cat by putting his medicine into it. Prior to that it was like crack

We do this too, but we crush up the pill first. She’s never noticed, and we only use a half tube for it.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Same for greenies for me. Used to love them, now sees them and nopes out of the room.

[–] tyler@programming.dev 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Gotta crush it first. And until they get used to it only do a tiny amount in each “serving” so like an eight of the pill in the first quarter of the churu, slowly getting more.

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Trust me, we’ve tried it all. Crushed pills, liquid, whatever. Homeboy takes one sniff and nopes out.

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

you have a drug sniffing cat?

[–] baggachipz@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Maybe he could get a job and support this damn household!

[–] Tall_Chilchuck@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Friend of mine who works at a vet gave me some churu once, but my cats were totally uninterested in it. Only way i got them to eat any was to mix it in with their dry food lmao.

I've used churu to end wars between cats. It's a game changer for earning a good reputation when you're new to a suspicious cat. Maybe they don't let you touch them yet, but now they come out to see you in case you brought more of that delicious goo.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago

Fuck you now I'm actually curious

[–] iamericandre@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My cat will sprint to her bowl when she hears me opening the churu pouch

[–] allriledup@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

I feed my kitties from the tube. They just lick it up off the packaging lol. Sure is crack for cats.

[–] SkyeLight@piefed.social 7 points 2 days ago (3 children)

No idea if it's true or not but there was a rumor back in the day, that "natural flavors" was code for just a tiny bit of catnip essence.

[–] Lemmyoutofhere@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

Crack. They put crack in it.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Anecdotal data point, my cat hates catnip. Spray it? He flips shit and runs. Drop some flakes? He approaches it slowly and then just walks away. Toys? Won't touch them.

But he'll eat the shit out of Churu

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Neither of our cats seem to have the catnip liking gene, but they still go out of their mind for churu.

[–] KittenBiscuits@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

My cats actually prefer Delectables over Churu (they tell me it's a consistency/texture thing). But I think both brands have some form of bone marrow in them to make them extra umami. Not nip. Could be why your nip-resistant kitties still lose their minds over Churu.

Hmm, I feel like I’ve been warned by stumbling across this thread. And at first I thought it was stealth marketing.

Stealth marketing on Lemmy? Congratulations everyone, we've made it!
