THE POLICE PROBLEM

4276 readers
965 users here now

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

This is exactly what the NRA told us for decades would happen under Democrats.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 68 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But this is happening to immigrants and people of color; not white, hetero conservative Christians. So it's completely fine. /s

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

I'm not sure the /s is really even necessary at this point right? That's exactly what supporters of this are saying over and over. I guess all it's missing of course is that every single person that's not a US citizen (or the right kind of us citizen) is a violent criminal rapist, murderer, and pedophile, who also sells and distributes every drug ever made and is also lazy and unemployed while somehow stealing billions of tax payer dollars. They are all essentially perennial all star criminals.

[–] USSEthernet@startrek.website 3 points 2 days ago

Exactly why I started arming myself last year too. Everyone should at this point just in case.

Look at these Nazi psychos. Half a (typo edit) brigade in full military gear to take on an unarmed woman who has more balls than all of these losers combined. They're treating a peaceful city like a war zone.

When is our state government going to step in and push back with force?

[–] BaroqueInMind@piefed.social 40 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Democrats still think being unarmed and asking politely will make Republicans listen. You also dont realize cop demographic also mostly filled with people who voted Republican and want this shit happening.

Y'all will never get it.

[–] TheKingBombOmbKiller@lemmy.zip 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What would you suggest that the woman should have done instead?

[–] Soulg@ani.social 21 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Clearly she should've shot at them, got their armor, and gotten herself plus her children and anyone else in the building or even behind the building killed.

Where's the state national guard? I know they're on standby, this is when they start taking action. I get that Walz is afraid of where this will lead but that's on the administration, not him.

Textbook civil behavior from the woman filming and speaking, clearly restraining herself, asking for a warrant for the intrusion.

Textbook fascism from the invaders. Door to door searches for... What? Humans? Yeah it's been happening since forever but this is scaled up orchestrated violence.

"Are you hiding any browns in this house?"
- Not the SS?

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

But make sure all protests are peaceful and don't cause too much trouble. Resisting is what Trump wants, that will give them the excuse to do what they are currently doing...

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

Notice how they bunch up around doors, acting like they are immune to mines and explosives.

[–] plz1@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Is MN not a Castle Doctrine state? Thought it was. I could see this stuff going really, really sideways in a state like NH or TX, both as Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Ground states. If no-badge, no-law thugs in balaclavas roll up and break into your house, how can that differ from a "real" break-in?

[–] USSEthernet@startrek.website 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I honestly have no idea about my state, but if someone bursts into my home that I'm not expecting, they're getting filled with holes, idc who you are. Like someone else in this thread said, better to go out dead than be "disappeared" to who knows where for illegal reasons.

[–] Liquid_Chaos13@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

It is a Castle Doctrine State, but not a Stand Your Ground state.

A bunch of pussies hiding behind masks and dark glasses and flashing flashlight at camera to not be recognized. They know what they are doing is wrong but they love hurting women and children too much to stop.

Where the fuck are the NRA and the 2A stand up to a tyrannical government folks now that the US has a tyrannical government that needs standing up to? It's almost like they were a bunch of weekend warriora with murder fantasies all along and once push came to shove their micro-penises folded in on themselves and they are cowering in their bedrooms with the lights turned off.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 17 points 3 days ago

Those people want to stand up to an imagined tyrannical "woke" government. Fascists are a-okay!

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

So should I start a timer to see how long it'll be until this goes very badly wrong and people start dying again?

And the 2 FA people are crickets, as expected

[–] BanMe@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

No. Not silent. I just discovered my mom is pushing a fundraiser for the ICE shooter's family. The brainwashing is extraordinary. A cop could beat me to death in the street and she'd be there apologizing to the cop for his bruised knuckles.

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

And yet americans wont do anything about it.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

Castle doctrine in my state. Unfortunately I don't live in a blue state Trump hates directly at the moment.

Edit: Also only person in my apartment, so if they're coming for me, it's gotten beyond the point of bad. To where it's better to die there than be taken away and /disappeared/.

Shoot door kickers

[–] stickly@lemmy.world 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lmao the chunky ass gravy seal flashing the taser just froze up when she didn't cower in fear

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

I got a headache just from watching the video. Flashing lights like this when not dealing with a actual threat should definitely be considered a form of assault.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Are you white and middle class? You'd better fucking sit up and take notice. That's not enough to protect you from these government thugs anymore.

You, me, and everyone we know are on the menu. Say the wrong thing, you'll get your door smashed in.

[–] Bullerfar@lemmy.world 43 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It's fucking back to cowboy country. No rules of Law apply Anymore. Start shoot the dangerious People at your door America. Isn't that why you love your guns?

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago (9 children)

There are hostages in most houses. If you're gonna shoot, be prepared for Waco.

We REALLY need ICE to hit up a white MAGA 2A champion's house, kick down the door with no warrant, and immediately get peppered by the gun nuts inside.

Pleaaaaase. We need it so bad. I want them to realize that the tyranny to be resisted with arms is right in front of their faces.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago

The government (through ICE) is really all up in our shit, and we need to get pesky government outta here. Also, I'm a left-libertarian. Seriously!

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 29 points 3 days ago (9 children)

If an unidentified armed Nazi breaks my door down I am absolutely burying them six feet under.

Remember, if you want to go through body armor, you'll either have a hell of a time finding AP ammo, need to hand-load your own, or -- the economical, thinking man's choice -- have 12 gauge slugs*. Buckshot and regular FMJ will not cut it unless you're more confident in your shot placement under pressure than I am (in which case, aim for the face or the groin, but not center mass)

We need more self-defense (or community defense organizing) classes now more than ever. Seriously!

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 24 points 3 days ago (2 children)

So did they have a warrant?

[–] Lydia_K@lemmy.world 23 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Warrent? They need no stickin' Warrent!

(Spoilers, they don't know what they word means and everything they did was incredibly illegal)

They had (or wrote up on the spot) an "administrative warrant", not a judicial warrant.

Administrative warrants are DHS documents that only need to be signed by authorized ICE officers and do NOT give them legal authority to break and enter your home. They acted illegally here.

Judicial warrants, signed by a district court judge, allow them to enter only as much as it's specified in the warrant's parameters and time frame.

~~Lady, why the fuck is your door even open if you haven't seen a warrant yet?~~ I've been informed she didn't open it, but the rest of this comment stands

I'm going to repeat this for anyone who needs to hear it: The. Door. Does. Not. Open. Without. A. Warrant. If they want to break down the door without one, wonderful, you can sue them later and probably (if the courts aren't completely useless by that point) win enough money to buy an entire new house let alone a new door; but that does not work if your dumb ass opens the door for them and allows them to plant their jackboot in the doorway.

[–] DrWorm@lemmy.world 65 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

They knocked the door open, the lady didn't open it.

You can see the wood splinter and fragments on the ground they forced the door open illegally. You can see a video of this from the outside they broke the door open.

[–] archonet@lemy.lol 21 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (6 children)

Oh, I didn't notice that -- well then she's in for a fantastic windfall, again assuming the court isn't completely captured by fascism.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 34 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Remember when a cop destroyed a innocent bystander’s home to find a fugitive. Owner sued the city, and judge sided with her. But the 5th circuit said nah fuck that. Also SCOTUS declined to review the case. https://usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2024/11/25/supreme-court-swat-teams-property-damage/76129567007/

[–] NannerBanner@literature.cafe 18 points 3 days ago

judge sided with her

Correction: a jury sided with her. We should always remember that 99% of the time the appellants have had to convince multiple people that they were due remuneration, not just one.
