1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

Been doing a huge amount of work around the house lately in the holidays.

Currently power washing the pavers out back and filling the joins with sand. Should be more fun tomorrow.

I've never seen a dryer installed upside down before.. woah

[–] annndy@lemmy.world 33 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It’s Australia and super common in apartments here. INB4 everything up side down, down unda 😉

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Wait, so it's not a joke? Are all dryers upside-down mountable, or is it a special type?

[–] annndy@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I dunno about all driers, maybe not heat pump ones which have a reservoir for the steam / moisture to collect? But standard driers, yeah. Usually done in apartments with limited space for wall mounting above a top load washer (which are very common here), and let you reach the dial.

Yeah, this seems like it would be potentially an issue if the idler wheels aren’t designed to support the drum weight like this.

Edit: looks like there are a couple brands that allow this, Electrolux being one.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago

Seems like a bad idea, but maybe it's kosher if the manufacturer says so?

[–] petersr@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Same. Kinda blew my mind

Should the dryer be upside down?

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 130 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I come from the land down under - its actually the house thats upside down and I rotated the image.

[–] gressen@lemmy.zip 68 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Ok, then tell me why is the washing machine upside down?

[–] HowAbt2day@futurology.today 91 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] plenipotentprotogod@lemmy.world 35 points 6 days ago (2 children)

At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within OPs laundry room?

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 53 points 6 days ago

So I can reach the controls

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

It's not. The dryer need to be installed 'upside down' so the heat radiates down (from our perspective) to the northern hemisphere.

[–] Myr@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (5 children)

It's so he can reach the controls while it's mounted! I guess anyway - Idk why really.

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 59 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Yes thats correct, the official instructions tell you to mount it upside down and the kit it comes with only works one way.

I've always found it irritating on others I've done over the years but there ya go.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 51 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Never seen this done before. Glad to hear it’s a supported configuration.

[–] siigna@lemmy.sdf.org 25 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Same. I was genuinely scratching my head before I came to the comments. Reaching the controls didn't even enter my mind 😂. I've seen stacked/combo units before, but never a wall mounted dryer.

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 48 points 6 days ago (4 children)

Maybe this is less dull than I thought - perhaps mildly interesting?

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 6 points 6 days ago

We dull men are fascinated by your mounting the dryer, well done.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

Definitely qualifies in my book

Does this mean before you had it mounted it was actually upside down? Like the controls and all the text was upside down?

I didn't know you could mount a dryer on the wall, and I really didn't know you could install it upside down. This is an educational day.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Is that drier made to be hanged like that or have you improvised?

I have a condenser drier but it does have a hose outlet to connect it to a drain. I wouldn't trust it to be on its head though

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 29 points 6 days ago

Made for it - comes with a kit to wall mount if required.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 12 points 6 days ago

The best thing is that now the room works both ways up in freefall.

[–] Vinylraupe@lemmy.zip 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Pretty cool. I hope the vibrations wont lead to a problem tho.

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 14 points 6 days ago

It doesnt really vibrate much, simple belt driven barrel and a heating element.

The thing is 40kg fully loaded so it would take a fair whack for it to come off the mount which is supported across 3 studs.

[–] twinnie@feddit.uk 8 points 6 days ago (3 children)

I absolutely hate putting shelves up. Something about the amount of measuring required, and it’s so unforgiving if it’s even slightly wonky.

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 10 points 6 days ago

The wall on the left is out of level by about 15mm bottom to top. However I have a laser level and it makes life very easy when needing to do any of this stuff.

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 6 days ago

Second vote for a laser level. It’s still miserable, but easier.

This is the opposite of Dull. This is one of the most interesting things I've seen today.

First off, building laundry shelves is awesome, I've been dreaming of making improvements to my laundry room for almost 5 years now, and I still haven't done it. So heck yeah man that's awesome.

Secondly, that upside down wall mounted dryer is blowing my mind! Like what the heck! I didn't know you could do that! Does that work? Do you just get used to all the labeling being unreadable? That's insane! I mean, I get it, it puts the door closer to the ground, but I never would've thought that would work. Does it dry better or worse than if it were right side up? Does the lint trap still trap lint as well or do your clothes end up a little more... Fuzzy? Idk how to even tell if one dryer leaves more lint on clothes than others.

I'm so intrigued.

[–] bootstrap@piefed.social 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Thanks!

Well to try and answer your questions:

  • It does work
  • Its not really unreadable so its fine
  • I think it dries the same, I'd have to ask my other half
  • The lint trap still works well because its vented so the air still passes through it

We've been using it the right way up for years so lint had collected in the botton of the actual unit and when I mounted it upside down that all fell through the unit body. It did cause it to smell like burning fabric for the first 30 mins running it upside down down but I just stood next to it with a fire extinguisher until it "burnt off" the smell you could say.

Now been running perfectly with no burning smell for 10ish loads of laundry!

[–] chefdano3@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

Hah! That's funny that it had to burn off the old lint. That's pretty dang cool that it can be used that way.
