Loaded it (legally) onto my steam deck :3

[–] TechnoCat@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Someone recommend a new game for me.

I really enjoy these games:

  • The Witness
  • A Short Hike
  • Fez
  • Haven Park

OneShot and Maybe Dead Space. I binged OneShot’s first play through all day yesterday and I’m hooked. Dead Space I’ve been wanting to get too

Just random pico-8 games.

Merry Christmas!

Astro's Playroom

In anticipation for the kids (and me) getting Astro Bot tomorrow I've been finishing up with all the artifacts and puzzle pieces. The game is actuality quite wonderful with the nostalgia and gameplay so I'm really looking forward to playing the next game :)

Arc Raiders

Its taken me a couple weeks to get in to but I'm enjoying it a lot right now and epecially duos with a buddy because I haven't yet got a proper feel for the maps. Looting games are usually my thing but this one is great.

I really should finish that one. That’s the one that came free on the PS5 right? That was basically to show off all the new features of the new fancy controller? I really enjoyed my time with it but never bothered continuing after the first little while. I should go back and finish it sometime.

Elite Dangerous. Always Elite Dangerous. But seriously, it's a great time to get into E:D

Other than that, I've been having great fun with Escape From Duckov

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Big fan of Duckov myself too! The game is surprisingly chill for an extraction shooter and the humor in the game is pretty on point.

Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. Other than a couple of hours in Dawn of War, this is my only experience with the setting and I'm really digging it. I also already like Argenta more than any of the party members in Kingmaker or WotR. I'm nearing the end of Chapter 1, I think.

I have an interesting feeling about this one, like it could possibly be an all-timer for me, although my experience with gaming is telling me it's more likely it'll end up being more of a near miss. I had a good feeling about Kingmaker early too, but that game always felt very raw, obviously a product of a young studio. WotR was massively disappointing, unfortunately. Hoping Rogue Trader ends up more like the former. Just wish I had more time/energy to play it.

Warhammer 40k is one of the most engaging and well developed IPs out there and is chock full of cool stuff but don't be one of those people who fails to realise that the humans are the baddies (in a universe full of other baddies).

Persona 5 royal. Bought it many years ago and started the game but never even played long enough to go to school haha. It is a good game so I am unsure why I stopped so early, so far have I played 40 h. The story is better than the gameplay tho, the fighting can get very boring/grindy, especially in mementos (side missions).

Neon White

I think I‘m almost done, minus the rushes. I kinda dread handing in all the gifts cause the dialogue‘s been pretty bad but I also kinda wanna read it now that I’ve collected them all lol

SCARLET NEXUS

I can‘t really recommend it. It runs kinda poor for essentially looking like a PS4 game and the game’s whole movement and combat feels insanely awkward and clunky. The story‘s ok but yeah. I like anime games but this one‘s a stinker in my book. The systems just aren‘t coming together.

Deathloop

I don‘t really have an opinion yet (outside of the game seemingly randomly enabling/disabling settings like vsync for me). I‘m still confused about most stuff and haven‘t found my groove yet. Dishonored‘s for sure better though. But this might be alright. We need more immersive sims honestly.

Scarlet Nexus

I was able to do some mildly fun stuff in it: https://video.hardlimit.com/w/nC1rdALiLqD5F4cxUhg26D

But I agree: it's an odd blend that doesn't exactly end up feeling like a satisfying action game or a satisfying RPG… and it's too damn grindy… some parts are just corridors full of enemies with giant health bars over and over again.

I didn't enjoy NieR either, but it's a better action RPG than Scarlet Nexus, for sure.

Neon White

I wasn't really a fan of the gift aspect either and I agree the cut scene doalog is kinda lame. I fast forwarded through these segments, but completed all gifts to get the secret ending.

Deathloop

I thought this game was interesting until the overarching narrative revealed itself then I was hooked. The narrative is intentionally obscured. Give it some more time to unravel and I hope you see the same gem that I did.

I'm playing Heretic in split screen with my son on our Steam HTPC. We're in the second chapter now.

And merry Christmas!

[–] Elextra@literature.cafe 6 points 3 days ago

Playing Unleashed Fury with my husband local co op. Having a great time with it

[–] Ch3rry314@piefed.social 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Binding of Issac

I beat mom before, but never beyond that. I picked up Rebirth with the DLCs on steam and now I'm playing through older, and wiser. Beat mom already and going through my second run now.

Good luck! You've got a lot of amazing roguelite ahead of you.

[–] gajahmada@awful.systems 3 points 3 days ago

I just grab a few since it's still winter sale. Haven't had the time to play much though.

Moonlighter 2, I like the demo so probably enjoying this one.

Skong. I've gone through the 1st act on Gamepass. I mean I'm not that good at it but I thoroughly enjoy HK.

Risk of Rain 2. Short session before bed.

Did the enemy just rush you to no end ?? I can't find the teleporter!?! Where is it.

We played Rock Band (yarc) for hours at our Xmas Eve party last night. 20 or so people and just about everyone cycled thru to play. That game will never die.

I had planned to play the Metro series but instead I'm playing Grim Dawn which works out fine with the new expansion coming soon.

I’m starting the Metro series instead of you then. Enjoying 2033 even if characters and storytelling is a bit stereotypical for now.

[–] PoppyJalopy@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Finally picked up grim dawn myself and have dumped 20 hours already. Happy to hear theres another update coming up

[–] MagnificentSteiner@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah, it's a fantastic game. I think i'm probably at about 700 hours :D

The expansion is called Fangs of Asterkarn and is gonna have a bunch of cool stuff! I think they said it'll be out Q1 or early Q2 next year.

AntichamberDecided to give it another shot (third or fourth so far), ended as usual - played through about half of the game and got stuck. I'm obviously missing some logic here but things just aren't coming together, no matter what I try.

Oh well, see you again in another year or two.

Shadowrun: DragonfallI wasn't really planning on playing it right after Returns (don't want to burn myself on the series or play style) and mostly installed it to see the difference between the two. Started playing anyway.

I like it so far. I miss being a solo in a new place and the new hub doesn't feel as cosy as the Seamstress Union but it isn't bad. Having a proper story related team does make things different enough to keep things interesting. Tone of the writing is pretty different, more "standoffish" and grey than in the first game.

I wasn't full sold on the updated UI initially but it managed to win me over. I do however have way more issues with miss-clicks in this game. I'm not sure exactly why and while I recognise that it's my own fault it didn't make the resulting consequences any more painful unfortunately.
Enemy encounters seem to be a bit more balanced than in the first one and everything feels like an improvement for the most part. That said, there are some scenarios that were... not exactly unfair but definitely weren't as fun as the rest of the game. It's fine when there's an option to scatter and run but that's not always possible and it did end up affecting my enjoyment at times.

Besides starting the base campaign I also looked into unofficial modules. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit disappointed by my research (there's only handful of them and most are unfinished) but I did find 2 that might tide me over if I want more after finishing the story. I'll take what I can get at this point.

So far so good, I'd say. There are some things that turned out better than in Returns and some that don't really hit the mark but as a whole it's a pretty good follow up to the first game. I can only hope it sticks the landing as well.

Antichamber hurts my brain trying to figure out how to do anything. The game's so complex that I've watched multiple speedruns that do every puzzle in the game and I still don't understand what to do every time I try it again every 2-3 years

[–] Essence_of_Meh@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I'm not sure if it's actually the case or if I'm just trying to justify my own inability to proceed but I feel like the game fails to properly convey how to proceed at certain points. Things are relatively easy to figure out once I know what I'm looking for but getting to that point can be hit or miss.

That said, these hit or miss points vary with each playthrough for me so I'm leaning towards my brain failing to figure things out.

Look Outside
I've really been enjoying this one. It has an interesting story, funny characters, pixel art body horror, and decisions to make.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just a heads up, your link isn’t formatted correctly. Square brackets with text, then round brackets with the link (so basically just swap the text so you have Look Outside in squares and the link in rounds).

[–] ExtraMedicated@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Whoops Thanks

Jets 'n' Guns a side scrolling schmup from 2004 that I got for I think a couple of pounds in the steam winter sale.

Played a shareware version on my dad's iMac back in the day and have wanted to pick it up again since.

It's not bad, probably not amazing but fun enough for so little money and there's lots of content.
