I get so irrationally upset about this man’s name. Like to the point where I will not watch anything with him in it. It is everything that is wrong with the English language.

I will die on this hill.

BTW it would be Seen Bean or Shawn Bawn.

Sean is an Irish name though. It is spelt Seán in Irish iirc. The e makes the s soft, the accent on a makes the e silent. Irish spelling does make sense once you learn the system.

I will not be swayed by your understanding of regional dialects and logic.

[–] DakRalter@thelemmy.club 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Oooh but Irish is not a regional dialect of English, it's a different language. Gotcha!

[–] vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Based on my inability to understand half of what was said during my time there, I don’t refute your claims.

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 0 points 2 weeks ago

Wait till they find out who counts as celtic

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What would happen if you accidentally watch something that has him in it?

[–] vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

Anarchy. Bedlam. Cars and dogs living together in harmony.

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I will not watch anything with him in it.

Not even this?

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago

[–] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago

I've always been a fan of "Seen Bean" myself.

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's pronounced "walking spoiler warning".

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 weeks ago

At least he tried to keep his head in the game.

[–] BilSabab@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

"Sha-an Be-en"

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Sean, Shawn, Shaun, Jean, Shon, Shawne

It's all the same. It comes from John and sounds like John.

[–] csolisr@hub.azkware.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

See also Juan, Ivan, Giovanni, Johann and I'm pretty confident I'm missing some

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Btw did he change his name or is Sean Bean only his stage name? I see that he was born Shaun Bean. Well, Shaun Mark Bean but who cares about a middle name that isn't used.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah he uses the Irish spelling for work because of how it looks.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That one guy who always pronounced the e in Sharpe.

[–] Chais@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Did he pronounce sharpy like the dog breed?

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 1 points 2 weeks ago

Yep. I have a theory that another Sean Bean character has to die for every time Richard Sharpe got run through or shot and survived it.

[–] zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Clearly like the French word for ham: Jambon

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

[–] Sir_Premiumhengst@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

[–] foliumcreations@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

[–] Suncrow@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Shan ban is the only real way to pronounce it.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Only Mr. Bean knows the true pronunciation.

[–] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago
