Sean is an Irish name though. It is spelt Seán in Irish iirc. The e makes the s soft, the accent on a makes the e silent. Irish spelling does make sense once you learn the system.
I will not be swayed by your understanding of regional dialects and logic.
Oooh but Irish is not a regional dialect of English, it's a different language. Gotcha!
