/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I like how everyone has all these hobbies and social activities like poker or fencing, except Barclay, who is a depressed and anxious workaholic except when he goes to the holodeck to jerk off. He was truly ahead of his time.

Remember how everyone shit on Barclay for being a creep until Geordi got busted for making a virtual fuck doll of that one physicist lady? Good times.

I think the funniest part of that is in the last episode of TNG there is a throw away line that heavily implies they got married and had kids.

[–] trolololol@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

In the books they get together for a while.

No, because neither of those things happened.

They discovered Barclay's unhealthy holodeck fantasies, and while the crew was made uncomfortable by exploring them, that's how they found out he had issues that need treatment. No character ever holds it against him.

Geordi had a problem with the Enterprise's engines that he wanted to discuss with the engineer that designed them. He had the holodeck simulate said engineer--who turned out to be a woman. And then the computer simulated the engineer flirting with him. Which then got replayed and taken out of context.

or when he finally breaks out of his shell, when he had all the cytherian knowledge downloaded into his brain, they shat on him for that.

And no matter how important their jobs are or how much work they have, they still find time to learn to play musical instruments.

[–] scholar@lemmy.world 32 points 1 month ago

Well yes getting put in a coma and being forced to live an entire lifetime does give you time to learn the penny whistle

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

I'm a firm believer that if we locked up all the project managers, we'd pass the singularity in 5 years.

If we outlawed people talking about their kids in meetings we'd hit it in 3.5 years

Musicians and actors tend to get plenty of dates if they want them, I don't think this is some utopian thing.

Starting a band to meet girls in high school/college is a trope for a reason.

It also allows a good work-life balance. The ship is your home, your coworkers are your friends and neighbors, you have complete access to physical and mental healthcare you don't have to worry about bankrupting you. When working-to-live doesn't consume all of your time, that gives you freedom to pursue whatever you want to pursue. You can enjoy activities without being bombarded with ads every 12 seconds or social pressures. The food you're provided is either inherently healthy or made with pride so it's not 35% salt and cheap processed fillers inherently bad for you so obesity is a thing of the past. So everyone is relatively in good health, in shape or otherwise comfortable with who they are if they don't have 6-pack abs and vascular arms.

It's also kinda interesting that command officers are openly allowed to engage in any relationship they want to with people who report to them, without any worry of stigma, workplace reprisal, or issues with professionalism/favoritism.

This one is simple: those who play brass know how to rim ass.

[–] Samskara@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Theater people always get laid.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

"Also" from what? It's not these things, but it's also this thing? What?
