Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump said while addressing the group’s annual convention.

What an utter waste of DNA. And that was only the start of all the racist shit he said.

I'm reminded of Jon Stewart the other day:

Two races in one person‽ If these people ever saw a Pizza Hut-Taco Bell, they’d lose their minds!

I don't know, is Trump a flaming sack of shit or a racist liar?

😱 Something can be two things at the same time??? Like a billionaire and a fraud??? Or a candidate and a felon???

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 37 points 2 years ago (13 children)

A thought:

If Trump thinks that Kamala Harris should claim she's Indian because she has an Indian mother, then Barack Obama should claim he's white for the same reason.

Too bad no one in the press will bring that up to him.

Translation:

"Don't bother going out to vote for her, black people, she's not actually black."

If she wins, black Americans will have saved our asses AGAIN.

“I think it’s disgraceful that I came here in good spirit. I love the Black population of this country, I’ve done so much for the Black population of this country,” Trump said.

He's a parody of himself. If there wasn't a real threat behind his existence, I'd happily do nothing but laugh at the ridiculousness of his claims.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 102 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I like how he said there were "black jobs." I guarantee you that before someone asked him what black jobs were, he was thinking of things like doorman, shoe-shine boy, bellhop, maid...

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 49 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sorry. That’s politically incorrect. The appropriate term for the modern age is “convicted prisoner”

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Does that mean Trump is half Black?

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 51 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Funny you say that.

I was in a nasty argument with my mom last night about her use of the racist slur “illegals”. I told her that people can’t be illegal. She replied that shes not a racist and that they’re illegal because they broke the law. I shot back, “oh, so, since you got that speeding ticket, that makes you an illegal?” “No! They committed a felony!” So I said, “oh, so Trump is a 34 times illegal then?”

She said, “that’s different!”

“Why? Because he’s white? See, that’s why you’re racist.”

She screamed, “fuck you!” and hung up the phone.

[–] lolrightythen@lemmy.world 26 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sorry, yo. Good job on keeping it real

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago (3 children)

She texted me later, saying I was following a “Marxist script”. I texted back, “oh, yeah? What script did Marx write that said brown people were ‘illegal’, but white people weren’t? Was it in the letter to Lincoln praising him for freeing the slaves, or in Das Kapital? Because I must have missed it. Why don’t you send me a copy of where you read that.”

She blocked me.

He compared the 2021 insurrection to the protests in Minneapolis and other cities in 2020 following the death of George Floyd by Minneapolis police and to more recent protests at the Capitol last week by demonstrators opposed to the war in Gaza. Trump falsely claiming that no one was arrested in those other demonstrations and that only his supporters were targeted.

As Trump made the comparison, a man in the back of the room shouted out: “Sir, have you no shame?”

None. Literally none at all.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 40 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

"Haven't you been paying attention? No, I have no shame. Nobody has less shame than I do, everyone is saying it."

That might be one superlative I'd actually believe if he said it.

There's some other good stuff in there but that's the one that stood out to me as new.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 26 points 2 years ago (4 children)

"Now" she wants to be black. As if her father wasn't Jamaican.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I've heard people seriously saying that Jamaicans aren't black. Like what the hell?

"I didn't know about this thing, so it didn't happen until I knew about it" is a concept my child needs to learn about, not a presidential candidate....

[–] norimee@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago (1 children)

He doesn't understand how sombody can be more than one thing. Because everyone around him is so one dimensional.

Indian mother and a black father and still American? How is this possible?! Its nearly as if she fell out of a coconut tree.

Not exactly a great strategy to win over black voters...

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 37 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I can't believe there are Black and Latinos voting for this orange turd. And some of them are my ignorant immigrant family. Like, hello??

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

Ignorant racists with a poor understanding of government and history come in all colors.

Kamala Harris was “Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden, she made a turn and she went, she became a Black person.”

I wonder if this is why he stopped donating to her campaigns...

[–] nifty@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I guess the good thing this indicates is that black people as a population have significant voting power if the Trump campaign tactic is to alienate Harris from black voters

Now we know why they gerrymander so hard, b/c otherwise their ghouls probably won’t even come close to being elected

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 27 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Wow who could have seen this one coming? Trump used this platform they gave him to spread racist evil shit. What a PR disaster for them and a PR Boone for Trump.

[–] Nurgle@lemmy.world 19 points 2 years ago

I’m not sure this was quite the boon for Trump. He hasn’t faced anything but soft ball Fox News reporters for years, and just made headlines for pitching a fit after being interviewed by actual journalists

Good, Trump, just keep digging your own hole further!

[–] wagesj45@kbin.run 19 points 2 years ago

This whole event was a shit show. Tech problems, no one could hear each other. And of course none of the journalists landed any gotcha moments because it's Trump and he has zero shame.

[–] samokosik@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

Can we just collectively question Trump’s race? Idf if he is a tomato or an orange 🤷‍♂️

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago

What's really amazing is that he doubled down on this.

Trump cannot admit he's wrong. That' such an attractive personality trait, isn't it...

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 years ago (4 children)

The hilarious part of all this would be to see America actually elect this idiot. Say what you want about him but he's running to lead the most powerful country in the world.

The fact that he is even a contender says more about America than anything.

I stopped laughing at Trump a long time ago .... I now point my finger at the American population.

I have hope for the US because of Harris but if Trump wins it, the world will never look at the US with any bit of respect (if there ever was any left) ever again.

[–] classic@fedia.io 22 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Gerrymandering helps skew things in favor of Republicans

The Electoral College isn't technically a gerrymander, but functionally, it's the same.

I'm often reminded of the saying

Imagine how dumb the average person is and realise that half the population are more stupid than that
