Now I really want to see an apocalypse movie where a family follows a cat through the apocalypse and survives.

[–] AmbitiousProcess@piefed.social 53 points 3 months ago

Cancel every pointless reboot and give me this instead. Please, I need it now.

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

Ideas for the inevitable Homeward Bound reboot.

Is this where all the orange braincells go?

[–] Blubber28@lemmy.world 68 points 3 months ago

That fucker is hoarding them!

[–] finitebanjo@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago

The owner probably keeps a bowl at the end of the trail and fills it up daily, so the cat remembers the path religiously and gets vocal about detours.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 36 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Wow thats pretty good cat; walk cats are best cats.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Agreed. Also, lazy home cats are best cats.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

We can quibble aboyt narrow optimization criteria as long as we agree cats are best.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Agreed. Now dogs, on the other hand... they're also the best.

They're fine. Dogs are fine. Very cute.

What does it mean to "go upstate"? North?

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 28 points 3 months ago (1 children)

In larger US states, yes. Typically north/northwest, like in Upstate New York.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I thought “Upstate” New York meant “not New York City”

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Depends on where you are when you say it. To anyone in NYC, that's probably true. But don't say you're in upstate NY if you're in western NY.

[–] PoopBuffet@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Would that be Leftstate NY then? Or is there only a single cardinal direction within a state?

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

There is only really "Upstate", New York, and "Long guy land".

[–] tuxiqae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

I thought it was Lone Guy Land

[–] TheMinions@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Usually, yeah.

In this context it probably just means from the lowland of the state to the mountains.

[–] orbituary@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Based on what? That's not how "upstate" is used... like ever. It's not synonymous with "upstairs."

There are only degens up there, bud. Watch out.

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Yeah, but I do love fishing in Quebec.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago

Which is a mistake, cuz down the country is where the water tastes like wine.

So like do they just abandon the cat and hope the guests will take care of it?

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 23 points 3 months ago (2 children)

If it's an "outside cat" it can just be hanging around the place. My parents have a cabin in the countryside and there's farms around. One day a cat just showed up. They pet her and give her food once every few days, but she's independent and pretty much just wants to be petted. Very affective and always seeking human attention. She just decided to hand around the place. I also have a cabin deeper in the woods on the same land and the cat is often just following us when we walk from one place to another.

So when they had a house built there, the construction workers just had a cat hanging around. She was coming out of the woods to be petted, then went back in the woods or just went chilling in the barn until her next round. Feeding her is pretty much just extra, because she can take care of herself.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

This sounds a lot like what I'm dealing with right now. This one momma cat showed up pregnant one day, dropped a kitty on us, and now hangs around half of her day indoors and then escapes or asks to be let out whenever she pleases. We got her fixed, but that didn't fix her old habits. lol She's incredibly friendly, though, and knows all the other rules well... except for not going outside.

My cat could probably be suited to this situation pretty easily, but I'm too attached.

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

It could just be a room or an ADU that was rented.

Most AirBnB places just seem to be part of the owners house.

Wake up babe! Next season of Fallout 76 just dropped!

Reminds me of mountain dogs in Latin America. They'll happily guide you through the mountains for a treat or a pat

Makes me yearn for another thru-hike.

Just a belly pooch. My old man was skin and bones at the end but still had a pooch.

My parents owned a cat who loved to go on walks with them, but would complain loudly if the walk was too long, and demand to return to the house when she was done walking. It was such a problem that they started shutting the cat in the house when they wanted to walk, and so she would hide outside and follow them secretly until they were too far along with the walk to bring her back to the house and continue without her, and then trot up and join them on the walk. Then shortly she would complain that the walk was too long and she wanted to go back now.

We love her
