Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

This is the only political currency I'll accept anymore. Words are worth a bucket of warm piss to me.

Hell yes. The President we should have had in 2016.

They will try anything but heeding the will of the people before the will of their donors, and this is why they will continue to fail. They may win one here or there but never with the consistency or margin to undo the things half of them are helping Trump do. Its a racket and a ratchet.

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 21 points 8 hours ago

Oh, they're trying to project authenticity?!? Have they tried, you know, being authentic?

I love curse words, they're half my vocabulary. That won't turn me off. But strong language alone will not move the fucking needle. You've got to meet people where they are and really give a shit, not just try stunts.

This just shows everyone that the husks who run the Democratic Party have zero ideas of their own. I don't want to vote for Blue Trump. I want to vote for someone who isn't a complete coward, who stands for something and will get things done. Start with an agenda of anti-corruption, worker rights, and climate action and go from there.

No! We should court the center vote! It worked in the 90s and it'll work again any day now!

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

They've been courting the center as their only strategy since Jimmy Carter lost to Reagan. The only exception was Obama's first term.

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 6 points 7 hours ago

Only worked in the 90's because of Ross Perot.

You can still call them muthafuckas while doing the right thing.

Use the Bill Burr rules:

Republican muthafuckas - GOOD

Muthafucking Republicans - BAD

Good idea: make accusations in plain language. "Trump is corrupt and steals taxpayer money." "Republican policies hurt Americans with jobs." "Voting for assholes gets you shat on."

Bad idea: make shit up. "Trump eats babies." "Republicans summon Satan in their basements." "Vote for me and I'll cure your cancer tomorrow."

That's still not it. They need to get rid of the conservative capitalists gangrening their party and socialists, if not better.

I have no doubt that this will attract some people to turn out and vote

But I really worry that this will just create a second party of brainwashed idiots who are just riding the hype train and not actually engaging with politics.

Which, to be fair, is probably what the party leadership wants. If they can get a bunch of people who blindly show up because they bought into the hype, then they don't have to actually of the things those of us who have been paying attention have been begging them to do.

[–] orclev@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

An informed voter base that votes based on understanding the policies is of course the ideal, but the problem is a significant chunk of the current voters are already those brainwashed idiots voting for the loudest moron. If what it takes to unseat them is an equivalent group of brainwashed idiots voting in the opposite direction that might just be the compromise we have to make. The critical thing is going to be that the person those idiots elect needs to actually pass intelligent policies. If you can convince morons to vote for someone actually intelligent, that's still an improvement over the current state where morons are electing either pure evil, morons, or both.

Well a big problem is people don't show up and magically expect politicians to know what they want.

Voter turnout is abysmal yet we all still blame only politicians.

[–] EvilBit@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Oh so we’re racing to the bottom now? Word.
