I came here to say this. Like wtf he’s done more for this country than half of the citizens born here

Okay. So he gets shot twice serving the U.S. The military doesn’t give him support for his PTSD, and he turns to drugs. He gets addicted, fights with that for over a decade before they throw him in jail because there isn’t a fucking social program to help addicts in this country, not even veteran addicts, gets clean in jail, turns his life around, and spends the next 16 years complying with the restrictions placed on him due to losing his green card because of his nonviolent conviction.
So even though he apparently is one of the few people who was rehabilitated by going to prison, he was treated as if he was a criminal for the rest of his time, even though he’s been clean longer than he was an addict. So I guess the state doesn’t believe that prisons rehabilitate people. (I don’t believe they do, but it’s clear the state doesn’t either.)
And finally, this man has a non-violent conviction. Trump has done more violent crime than him. But I guess it doesn’t count if you pay off your victims and make them sign an NDA, so the media has to say “allegedly” every time they talk about all the people you’ve raped. Trump should be deported to the nearest place that’ll take him.
No one deserves that clown. The American people need to deal with him.
There are some Middle Eastern countries that would be ecstatic to host him for a short time.
I mean. That’s fair. I would accept a desolate island or wherever they dropped off Bin Laden.
I hate the euphemism of "self-deport."
Let's call it what it really is: ICE threatened to lock him up and send him to an undisclosed location if he didn't flee the country.

What's really heartbreaking is that when these veterans, who took bullets for us, get told by our country that they need to leave, they just say "Yup, I guess I gotta leave", and don't make a huge deal about it. Donald Trump whines, in an extremely public matter, whenever he doesn't get his way, and these people just continue to do what their country asks them to, even when the country tells them to leave.
Life just isn't fair.
We have to shout for him, there's nothing he can do. You know, "First they came for..." and all that.

TBH I dunno how to fix it anymore. Even 'revolution' like many on Lemmy fantasize about will not penetrate, and most people don't want to understand what propaganda and algos are doing to them.
Protest has been working. Slowly, but it's working. Trump's approval rating is in the dumpster and I see no way for him to pull it out. His base is dumping him. I'm not sure of what's next, but take the small wins when we can.

Yeah and disapprove +11 (aka 54%) is the lowest poll (which I see more as +8 considering the 3% 'undecided' block). It's not even close to congressional or direction disapproval polls, and it's still around where he was last time as president.
I don't mean to sound combative, but a slight plurality of disapproval is not gonna cut the mustard.

Yeah, I just don't know how we come back from this. It's not like the sane among us are suddenly going to decide to go along with fascism, nor is that 30+% that somehow control the narrative going to stop being the literal worst all of a sudden (see: post-Reconstruction).

Oh you underestimate people's self interest. If Big Tech continues on it's trajectory to a kind of Theil-ish cyberpunk dystopia, most people are going to go along. Like, even I have super techy naturalized family that keeps using Google or Facebook stuff. It's (seemingly) too essential.
No offense to Americans, I understand some of you are great people, but I wouldn't need much of a reason to leave America at this point. If not for my safety, then for my sanity. If not for my sanity, then for eggs.

Reason, sure. Ability? That's something else. Most of us don't have enough money to make the journey. I don't know of many places that would even accept us as immigrants without a substantial monetary value/donation or work skill, plus the language skills we don't have because schools don't teach foreign languages well or at all.

I assume they don't charge you to get deported so there's a free ticket there and I'm no geographist but there's a couple countries that also use english as their official language
They're deporting us to concentration camps, not countries. They absolutely aren't determining where you should go. Alligator Auschwitz, CECOT, the one they're building in Guantanamo... It's not a free ticket to another country and freedom. It's a long road to death.

Many of us want to, but it's just not that simple. Financial viability, jobs, relationships, all contribute to making it very difficult for a lot of people. There's also the fact that a lot of countries require you to have a certain level of higher education to even be considered. If you don't already have that, it's really hard to just go to school for 4 years to escape what's happening right now. If it were as simple as moving between states, I'm sure you'd see a lot more Americans leaving. But as it stands, a lot of us feel trapped here.
Convince your loved ones to sell all of their material belongings, announce as a group that you are a band of undocumented Romanian gypsies, get deported, arrive in Romania, hoof it to the Ukraine border and claim to be Ukrainian refugees, be accepted into the UK,
Open the first Michelin recognized hotdog and burger food cart, sell your life rights to netflix, go back to the US with all your new money, shit in a paper bag, set it on fire, leave it on the doorsteps of people that have wronged you, go back to the UK, find out that the nearby shawarma shop has stolen your clientele, get depressed, get in a physical argument with the shawarma guys, get deported back to Ukraine,

This has been my plan since 2022. But sadly, I'm still in the "convince loved ones to sell all of their material belongings" stage.
The way I see it, they can say yes or no. Which is basically 50/50 so you have a 50% chance of passing this stage.
The rest of it is easy work as long as you're all young, fit, combat trained, able to fake at least 3 european accents, have solid bowel movements, have international underworld connections, a bit of business sense, and a small fortune in a swiss bank
