I really wish we would stop using the term "deporting" for situations like this. That is not what's happening here. "Rendition" and "exile" would be far more accurate.

[–] michaelmrose@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Shipped to concentration camps

[–] mormund@feddit.org 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe it's because I'm German. But deporting someone sounds just as inhumane and cruel as the reality we live in.

[–] Glide@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Deportation infers that they didn't belong there to begin with. You can't deport a naturally born citizen, and we have another word for which is considered much more cruel: exile.

Might be a language barrier thing but the difference is pretty substantial imo, and I am tired of letting these chuds rework the narrative with their particular choice of words.

[–] mormund@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe. But to me exile is what happens when a King has to live in another plushy castle because he's no longer welcome in his own country. Deportation is what happened to the Jews and minorities that got sent to Auschwitz. And if you're calling it mass deportation I don't think you are trying to hide the cruelty anymore. Cruelty is the point.

[–] Soupbreaker@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

As a native english speaker, I fully agree. Exile is something that happens to the rich and powerful, when they fall out of favor. It does not at all connote what's going on here. Deportation is far more apt.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Amen to that. It's like calling those terrorists from J6 "rioters".

[–] Worthess@discuss.online 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

France needs to take back 'lady liberty'

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know that we'll deserve it for much longer at this rate. Perhaps we should collectively gift it to Ukraine once they've repelled the invader

[–] Goodmorningsunshine@lemmy.world 3 points 19 hours ago

Nah, let's keep it after we string the SC and president up.

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

So he is going to send me back to Scotland?? Oh no please not Scotland. What ever would I do? Fuck man send me back to Scotland or Ireland. But that in not what he is implying. He will strip you of your rights and magicly those rotting crops in California get picked. Buy Ammo kids. That is what this is going to come to.

[–] Kurious84@eviltoast.org 46 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

in this morons mind he wants to exile anyone who doesn't kiss his ass and praise him like a child. That is what he won't say... yet.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

They will be labeled "socialists" and/or "communists" and then I guess they'll be ripe for kidnapping and an extreme rendition to another country's concentration camp.

And where would i even go? Honestly. Who would even take me? Naw fuck that, let's fight.

[–] Goodmorningsunshine@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago

Don't worry - you'll still be in America, you just won't have the rights of a citizen and will live on a camp and do slave labor.

[–] Cocopanda@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lolololololol. My bloods been here since the second boat after the Mayflower. I will take so many wanna be tough guys with me if they try and remove my citizenship.

[–] tehn00bi@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

My wife and daughter look like plausible immigrants, I live in a very gun friendly state and I’m strongly considering carrying anytime we are out in public. These gestapo type arrests has me very concerned. __

So to my understanding Trump is proposing deportation as a means of punishment for violent crimes?

Obviously problematic, especially considering the lack of due process present in some other deportations.

[–] salacious_coaster@infosec.pub 46 points 1 day ago

SCOTUS already wrote him a blank check and demonstrated that defying the law has no consequences (for Trump). No one is going to save us.

[–] aramis87@fedia.io 23 points 1 day ago

Remember all those videos of police screaming "Stop Resisting" at people who very clearly weren't resisting? Congratulations, you're now a violent criminal.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago

He didn't specify violent. This is how they crush dissent

[–] Glide@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He is proposing exile. Deportation is to send someone back to their country of origin. They're already in America.

[–] michaelmrose@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

In exile you are unwillingly sent somewhere you don't want to go with the understanding that you can't come back but nobody gives a fuck where else you go. We are shipping people to a prison you are liable to die in and to war torn hell holes. We are trying to kill people without overt gas chambers.

[–] krigo666@lemmy.world 45 points 1 day ago

You first, convicted felon.

[–] Gaja0@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"You're over reacting" really means "not my problem."

The constant bombardment of propganda across generations has given birth to an oblivious fascism, an artificially induced anti-intellectualism. We are forced to parse infinite amounts of information. Truth amalgamates across countless medium, and each person bears the responsibility of deriving a conclusion. The mind has proven time and time again that we are entirely capable of self deception and there is always those who look to exploit this. It's subconscious warfare.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

I just want to say, although I hate how things are going, I like the way you describe them.

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Did you know that Jaywalking is against the law in places?

Colorado for example

https://www.jacobyandmeyers.com/blog/fatal-pedestrian-crash-study/

Colorado has the highest proportion of fatal jaywalking accidents among all pedestrian-related accidents, with 56%. The second highest is Arizona with 45% in addition to ranking second for the highest total count, at 539 fatalities.

Not only are you committing a crime, but you are potentially traumatizing perfectly peaceful citizens on the roadways when you do it.

That is a morally bankrupt thing to do.

YOU'VE NOW BEEN DENATURALIZED AND DEPORTED.

What the fuck is he not going to say at this point. His mouth is a spewing fountain of fake-poor scented diarrhea. Populist my ass.

He's made so many incoherent open threats, he now sounds like someone who's drunk who's about to lose a fight.

[–] redwattlebird@lemmings.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And where, pray tell, would he deport US citizens to?

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 13 points 1 day ago (3 children)

There's already precedent for sending them to El Salvador. The courts don't seem able to stop them, so they'll do whatever they want.
