Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Key excerpts:

The family had been staying with a relative in Los Angeles for the previous seven months after crossing the border legally for a court appointment through the now-defunct CBP One App to seek asylum in October of last year. They had been granted parole status in the U.S. while they waited for their day in immigration court.

"They were crying in fear. One of the agents at one point lifted up his shirt, which displayed the gun that he was carrying," Mukherjee said. "The 6-year-old boy was terrified to see the gun. He urinated on himself and wet all his clothing. No one offered him a change of clothing for many hours."

The 6-year-old boy has been diagnosed with leukemia and has missed a medical appointment to be treated for worsening symptoms

The Texas Civil Rights Project says the family has been placed in expedited removal, which allows for rapid deportation without a court hearing. The family's attorneys fear they could be deported before their lawsuit is heard.

the fact that ICE is targeting anyone at immigration court tells us all exactly how hateful they and this admin is. these are people who are literally going through the legal system of immigration. they are not the same criminals that are publicly being talked about by the administration.

ice is specifically targeting good people because it's easy to get the list. using courts, using IRS fillings, profiling on the streets.

they are lazy. ice is purposefully not doing the work of finding and stopping real criminals. they are doing everything they can to avoid criminals. they are cowards, lazy cowards who only pretend to love this country but really they love the feeling they get when their boot is on someone's neck.

Wasn't it less than a year ago Republicans were saying they were okay with immigration, they just want people to go through the legal process

[–] ZoopZeZoop@lemmy.world 17 points 7 months ago (1 children)

We all knew that was a lie for most of them. They just didn't have the power or public support. It's not that they have more support now, but the support is way more public.

I don't know, I was too busy eating cats and dogs.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 62 points 7 months ago (3 children)

I do not care the reason, if you have scared a 6 year old so bad he’s pissed himself, then you are indeed the “baddie”…

No child should suffer this kind of trauma at the hand of an adult. And if they do, than that adult responsible needs the ever lovin’ shit beat out of them. Period. End of sentence.

Such brave heroes of the nation, who feel the need to intimidate a six‑year‑old leukaemia patient with a gun. /s

Absolutely evil and pathetically coward.

[–] imrighthere@lemmy.ca 31 points 7 months ago

Shithole joke of a country. Holy fucking shit.

ICE is a bunch of scumbags.

Individual names.

[–] general_kitten@sopuli.xyz 19 points 7 months ago

ah yes the damn children with blood cancer taking our jobs, the dangerous threat to society providing money for privatized healthcare by trying to stay alive

[–] cuteness@sh.itjust.works 18 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Perhaps DOGE should be installed at ICE and lay off all these pieces of shit instead of making it harder for people to get the benefits they already paid for.

There seems to be a ton of fraud waste and abuse going on at ICE.

"They were crying in fear. One of the agents at one point lifted up his shirt, which displayed the gun that he was carrying,"

Now who here thinks this sentence sounds like law enforcement in action in real life and not an excerpt from a badly written gangbanger movie?

The kid having leukemia makes this very much a cruel an unusual decision. Can't say "punishment" since they'd argue it's not a punishment, just bureaucracy. But them not being able to known where they're gonna even have to go looking for healthcare is just horrific.

I would love to hear from the children of these monsters. I would despise my dad if he was an ice agent. I would say im surprised at how easy these people give up their humanity when given the order to, but I know enough about history to remember that fascism shows us what these guys are capable of when they’re off the leash.

Suing? In the very system that’s enabling this?

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 7 points 7 months ago

Very, very few people want to go outside the system. Most who have are dead, and it's hard to provide for your kids when you're dead.

[–] Eddbopkins@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago

trump administration is afraid of sickly children. something like this doesn't happen by mistake. it takes people a specific group of evil scum bag people to do something like this.

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

We've seen what the trump admin thinks of the courts and the SCOTUS has usually backed him up.
