Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The usual gang of idiots will throw their hat into the ring and no one will care. I'm only sad Lyndon LaRouche isn't around anymore to give it another go.

Why would they let a Republican run on the Democrat ballot?

[–] GoddessNoAi@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 2 years ago

Naturally it would be preposterous for him to be on the ticket for President, but the reason they continue to let him run for Congress is because he counts towards the Dems in terms of determining which party has the majority and therefore sets the agenda for that chamber of Congress. Without him, that particular part of WV would almost certainly go to the GOP and tip control of the Senate firmly in their favor.

It's a deal with a devil, and one that has burned the Dems more than once. But without him we'd probably be completely fucked.

So centrists have representation.

The guy who spent the last 4 years campaigning for most hated Democrat on the hill thinks he has what it takes to win the Dems over?

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 years ago

Do it you fucking clown. Do it and realize that none of us give a shit about you!

"Let me in! Let me back in!"

Jeez this guy if he thinks he can play.

In the voice of Chandler Bing: Can he BE more of a Russian asset?!?

[–] BombOmOm@lemmy.world -2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Can he BE more of a Russian asset?!?

After this visit, I am even more convinced that defeating Vladimir Putin and ending his ruthless war against the Ukrainian people must remain our top priority,” said Senator Manchin

Considering this statement, I'm not sure where you got the Russian asset thing from. Is it just reflexive to call people Russian assets who want to destroy Putin?

[–] CaptainKickass@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Instead of what he says, look at all the fucked up shit he's done over the past four years. Between Sinema and himself, who needs the Republican party to stonewall the Dems agenda?

And his press releases are written by the ministry of information in Moscow. 😎

[–] BombOmOm@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I agree, actions do speak louder than words. Manchin voted yes to send $60b in lethal aid to Ukraine just this year. This 'Russian asset' sure is getting a lot of Russians killed. He doesn't seem very good at being a Russian asset.

Edit: Improved the link

Probably has more to do with fucking the Democratic Party and, by extension given Trump etm., America over than anything going on in Ukraine.

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Manchin could have switched parties anytime during his 18 years in office. He was a godsend when he ran the first time, and he's been a godsend ever since.

He's a piece of shit human, but he was the only democratic candidate with a chance at victory in West Virginia. His has been 85% better than any Republican that would have held his seat otherwise and it is infantile to pretend otherwise.

Manchin is infuriating, but he is no Sinema. He holds his office in a red state getting redder, not a pink state turning purple. He sometimes represents the wrong headed desires of his constituents and I can't hold that against him. Far more often he has voted for the best interests of the country.

[–] MagicShel@programming.dev 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I agree to an extent. If not him, his seat would've been Republican, and that would've been worse. I mostly didn't hold that against him.

However I think he really let America down when he was most needed. If there was a time to risk it all, I thought that was it. On top of that, what makes WV happy isn't going to fly in the rest of the states. He would have people staying home in droves.

[–] Triasha@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Oh absolutely. He would be a terrible VP pick and a prez run would flop. Not even WV likes him anymore.

[–] JesusSon@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

This is going to be such a shit show lol

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hahaha! Oh please don't let anyone stop you from completely flopping.

[–] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 0 points 2 years ago

Kamala could still pick him for VP.

[–] mozz@mbin.grits.dev -2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Voters: Hey can we maybe get someone more progressive, I mean Harris is fine but Biden was actually a little bit left and that was pretty fuckin nice

Voters: Like idk, not even like a new Bernie Sanders, we loved him but even like to a 20% level of that, nothing crazy

Manchin: My time to shine, I think they’re gonna like this

(Edit: I used to be making fun of Democrats with the last line, but some people gave me shit for it and rightly so, so I changed it)

[–] Carrolade@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Joe Manchin is not "democrats". He's just one guy, and kinda an asshole. He's not even a member of the party at the moment.
