I feel bad for this lady. She was calm and talking in public with two other people and she gets meme'd like she was being unreasonable. She wasn't, but even if she was she wouldn't deserve it.

[–] Stylofox@lemmy.cafe 11 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I often think about this when I see people used in meme templates like this. Do they know?

Yes they know

[–] Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 3 hours ago

She was just mentioning US statistics of women victims of rape, like you said she wasn't doing anything to deserve ridicule and yet became the face of it

[–] sxan@midwest.social 14 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

What was the context? This is the first time I've ever seen this person.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 19 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Here it is: https://youtu.be/byOlBCpNKeM

Rewatching it, I used the word "calm" and I still think that but she was "yelling" but not due to the subject matter. It was more due to the number of people outside and the ambient sound.

Like, she's just on the side and talking to the guy to me. Not unreasonably.

Pretty disturbing the number of lemmies who show up in that second panel, too.

If the hat fits...

[–] eureka@aussie.zone 3 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

Not sure if the comparison is apt: I think the lemmies in that second panel have a celebration party planned in the case a Trump assassination succeeds.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago

I won't party. you think I want this to be president?

I mean, if it was before the Democratic Primaries to force an open primary, sure. Its one person getting sick vs the entire country, its a great sacrifice.

But Now? I don't care either way. Like, I don't feel pleasure in people getting sick or dying. Its just a trolley problem to me.

How do we put an end to this ridiculous "unalive" trend? It's oppressive and childish.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 49 points 6 hours ago

Kinda already doing it by being on the fediverse since this trend is a direct result of corporate induced censorship aimed at keeping platforms “advertiser friendly”.

[–] PillowTalk420@lemmy.world 16 points 5 hours ago

Stop YouTube demonitizing content creators for using anything but euphemisms for death, even outside the context of actually telling people to kill others or themselves. It literally started because of YT policies.

[–] magic_lobster_party@fedia.io 25 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I believe it’s mostly to bypass mainstream social media filters. Words like ”killing” tend to be blocked.

While we’re speaking of putting an end to things, it would be nice to put an end of this meme image. She made a slightly funny face for one frame in a video, and now that’s her legacy.

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 9 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Meme police showing up in force ITT

[–] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 6 hours ago

They've got a point, if you've not seen the full in-context video then you should absolutely watch it. She's 100000% right to make the face at the shitheel

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 3 points 4 hours ago

The meme police, they live inside of your head

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 10 points 6 hours ago

Just say kill instead of this dystopian Tik Tok bullshit. I refuse to use any service that won't let me talk about the real world without using insane workarounds. It serves nobody's best interests and is only an arms race of fear because people think McDonald's would prefer to sell hamburgers next to the word unalive rather than dead or kill.

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

I refuse to use newspeak

[–] OmegaMan@lemmings.world 5 points 6 hours ago

I had this feeling as well but then I saw that one etymology guy on a podcast. He said using "unalive" has helped a lot of young people be able talk about suicide and death more openly and easily. I'm not going to grammar police then if it leads to growth and open discussion. Even if it sounds silly to me.

I actually had a look in on /r/conservative today expecting glee but honestly it was full of good words (at least the most upvoted comments).

[–] Frog@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 hours ago

So only approved redditors can post or comment in r/conservative, but anyone with a reddit account can upvote. The upvote count and ratio has nothing to do with its approved posters view most of the time. The sub is mostly bots anyway.

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

He lived a good life. He saw the zionist project he supported all his life come to full fruition. He just wanted to win the presidency to have had 2 terms, not out of any semblance of anti-fascism or concern for minorities. He just wanted it for the sake of personal achievement.

He will go down in history as the president who failed to do literally anything to stop fascism. He will be remembered for the hundreds of murdered reporters, 10s of thousands of murdered doctors/paramedics/nurses, and the hundreds of thousands of bombs dropped on children in Gaza. His name will be forever connected with the Israeli colonist project and it's genocidal aims. He, more than anyone else, is why the genocide was able to happen in the first place. He gave them the guns, he gave them the money, he gave them the missiles and war machines and tanks and planes. He protected them from the UN, he protected them from international prosecution, he spread their hoaxes and propaganda on the international stage in front of audiences of millions of people.

I'll shed no tears when he dies. Dying of cancer is merciful compared with what Israel does to Palestinians. Deaths he has long fought to justify. Good riddance.

[–] eureka@aussie.zone 0 points 2 hours ago

That's a desperate stretch, they were actively celebrating the Trump assassination attempts.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 8 points 6 hours ago

Huh, the guy crying about 8647 posted 8646 s few years ago so zero self-reflection.
