Like almost all of them believe in conspiracy theories. It's a fringe movement at this point, if a large one.
So, probably that George Soros personally stuffed all the ballot boxes for Carney.

They are mad because when they were children, their daddy was mad at Trudeau.
I literally just had this conversation before the election ha ha.
That's definitely part of it. Most of the hereditary tory voters aren't on the separatist train, though.
They think that their country is stealing their gold.
Losing.
I'd like to elaborate on this one.
Like in America their candidates certainly wins elections, but I think we can see how much they themselves are actually winning these days.
Realistically if your hopes and dreams depends on people like [insert picture of Trump] you're on a real uphill battle in life to begin with.
They have no idea what they are talking about but they have convinced themselves that they are hard done by and no amount of facts or explanation will change their minds.
So, typical conservatives.
Yes.
Let them get very serious about separation. and its consequences. Only when they face it will they realize what they'll have. Or not have. I can tell you one thing - once they have their own currency, it will appreciate. It'll make oil production costs more expensive, make their oil and gas less profitable. Further, their currency becomes directly pegged to the oil price, with little to no stability which makes doing business and trade-dependent economy like theirs and ours more difficult and costly. They will ask to continue to use Canadian dollar and we should absolutely refuse it - they want the benefits without the costs.
Equalization payments are there for economic imbalances. Look at EU. Once Germany joined EU and uses Euro, it is like a currency depreciation making their goods more cost effective in the world market. Thus Germany enjoys a huge trade surplus. It's not a coincidence Germany has had huge trade surpluses since they went to a common currency. This surplus would shrink if they went back to their own currency, as the Mark will appreciate due to the trade surplus vs other currencies making their goods less competitive in global market.
Albertan here. Itβs not going to happen. Even the idiots think itβs an idiotic idea put forth by the biggest idiots.
Theyβll still vote conservative though. π
Every mention of separation I've seen from Albertans involves them using Canada's currency, military, and pension plan. The people behind the movement are far too dumb to actually figure out their own country. It'll either end up being an instant US territory, or they'll collapse in a year or two.
Remember the term "Sovereignty Association"
Yes, because I was there.
The oil in Alberta belongs to Canada, just like the nickel in Ontario belongs to Canada, just like the hydro electricity in Quebec belongs to Canada, just like the fisheries in the maritimes belong to Canada.
The only things that don't belong in Canada are fascists.
So very very true
They don't know. I've talked to Albertans about this, and when you actually ask them what they're mad about, they struggle to answer. They've grown up being taught that everyone else in Canada is fucking over their province, to the point where the actual specifics don't even matter. It's just an article of faith.
My wife is Albertan. We lived there for 20 years, worked, paid taxes, started a family, voted. About 10 years ago we moved to Nova Scotia, my home.
We used to be hard-working people but apparently we're just bums now even to our own family and former friends. Fuck those albertans. They make the rest of us who actually worked hard and turned that place into something, outcasts for no reason other than their own stupidity and greed.
I hope they sink. Every last one of them.
There are people in Alberta who don't want to separate. In fact, the majority don't want to separate. This move will only be bad for the fascists. They will devide their voting base, and the ndp will take power again.
All I see is a win for Alberta the more these fascists talk about separation.
And if this is true, Albertans will stand up and take their government. Something they've done once in the past at least. I hope they do. Until that day however...
I am hard convinced that most "Albertan" seperatists are genuinely astroturfers trying to sway Canadian politics.
The ones that are legit are your bog-standard victimized conservative types. Every hardship they've ever faced is the fault of someone taking something they "deserve" with no genuine logic behind it rather than a self-centered belief that they are entitled to a level of prosperity that the majority of the world can barely dream of. So they aren't mad about one or more clear things; it's the general sense that they deserve more than they've been given, and the constant lie that others have been taking from them.
A ton of astroturfing going on. Foreign powers want a weaker, split-up Canada so that they can exert more influence through international oil oligarchy.
Tell me you don't know Alberta's history of separatist sentiments without saying it explicitly.
Can we stop pretending this is a foreign astroturf? As someone living in Calgary, this is a very real thing here that people genuinely believe, with some having thought this for decades.
All the evidence is right in front of people's eyes with Wexit parties being a not-so-distant memory to name the most recent example, and yet we jump to "Russia" or the U.S. as if they're the main reasons these sentiments exist.
If someone talks about "foreign astroturfing" then give me evidence rather than hit me with this "hunch" people seem to purely base this off.
We are all being influenced by foreign (russian) governments.
Just because there is a sentiment that can be expoited in a people doesn't mean that it's not being influenced by foreign actors.
The two are not mutually exclusive.
Yes, there is a lot of hate for Canada in Alberta, and it is being stoked by Russia and the American fascists.
I didn't say it was all astroturfing, I said there is a ton of astroturfing going on. There is an open push by american financial conservative magazines to portray a grassroots, Americanization-curious popular movement in Alberta.
If I'm going to be completely fair, I've always mainly seen those as targeted for American audiences rather than towards Alberta.
Like you know what I mean, always thought of that as "oh, let's make this out to be bigger than it is so we can sell it for a quick buck to the MAGA crowd" rather than as something they actually wanted to set a narrative on.
Guess those lines have kinda blurred since it's become two of the same these days just about, so fair point.
Yeah, you actually see MAGA hats in public here in Alberta. There is absolutely a recent push of foreign influence, but there was already momentum before the push. Hard to say now how much of that previous momentum was an old push, and how much it grew naturally. The only concrete thing I have ever seen them point at is equalisation payments, and they misunderstand them. Otherwise they think our oil should be worth more than it is, or respected more or something. But also that it should be only Alberta's oil and not help anyone else. "If they wanted part of our prosperity, they should have had their own oil", or something.
Basically, it's just selfish greed all the way down, and some disillusion as to what we even have.
Seems like foreign interference like the truck convoy.
Unfortunately those same people haven't figured it out yet and are being the gullable idiots again.
They are mad that their butts hurt.
Whatever Russia and MAGA news tell them to be mad about. I think they and Smith hope Alberta could be Crimea.
Listening to what fascists say at face value is a classic media failure.
I'll give it to you straight and simple.
They like something about America, and are upset it isnt so in Canada.
They are butthurt that while they love America, America doesn't want them, They dont have a pathway to immigration. Immigration is difficult.
Whether it be that they are uneducated, dont have money, or they are just all bark and no bite, and wont actually go through with the process
So since they cant individually emigrate. So some of them logically reason, that America should come to Alberta, whether it be by Ballot or Bullet.
They want pipelines east, through the provinces that receive the most in equalization payments from oil revenues, who say they want no pipelines.
Either allow pipelines or stop equalization payments I think is their demand. Since obviously they are almost fully reliant on the US due to being landlocked, due to being blocked by the same entity they've been feeding billions to over the decades.
And all the Albertans who are so incensed about that have completely forgotten that they got a major pipeline expansion west through BC under Trudeau. In fact, Trudeau's gov removed a bunch of red tape and poured a bunch of money into the project to make it happen. And yet, guess who they're mad at...
