Not even just progressive vote splitting.

You can absolutely sell this idea to supporters of the PPC by telling them that their party was robbed of multiple seats because of first-past-the-post. It's shocking that they haven't been advocating for this on their side of the aisle considering it would massively benefit their odds at representation in parliament.

Made a wrong assumption then, not that it means anything, but downvoting myself to make up for jumping to conclusions.

What I think is that the Greens and NDP are highly disappointing, and as much as they overall don't align with my values, I'll likely be voting Canadian Future since I refuse to vote NDP unless Jagmeet steps down and they get their leadership act together. I would have voted for the Greens if they ran a candidate in my riding like they said they would on their site, but come April 9th when the entries list was finalised, they were nowhere to be seen. Even then it was only because I've been impressed with Pedneault to the point that it makes up for May still being party head.

I just feel that we could in such a different position where people didn't have this conception of there being a need to strategic vote if these two parties actually fought like they should be. The NDP being this low after achieving Dentalcare for Canadians is beyond pathetic. Jagmeet says it in his speeches, but it should be all over the place with their advertising talking about how they strong-armed the Liberals into passing it.

Ah, so you didn't even read the comment. Congrats. Go ahead and "strategic vote" and have fun making this country ever so slightly more like the U.S. by forcing smaller parties to dissolve creating a two-party system.

Layton would be rolling in his grave seeing the lack of fight people have for their values these days.

Greens, NDP, Canadian Future. All running with proportional representation in their platforms.

So you also think not voting Liberal leads to fascism? I love when parties are entitled to my vote, that's definitely how democracy works.

My comment here summarises things.

You do realize that giving your vote away from a smaller party to a larger one leads us more into the two-party lockup that the U.S. faces right?

Always there's this one-sided thinking of "oh, but if you vote this way, then it's your fault when the party most opposed to you wins. Why do we never ask why the party that's most positioned to beat the party we're most in objection to isn't out there trying to appeal to us? Why must we appeal to them?

By deciding that your vote is a waste when it goes to a smaller party, then congrats! Your "strategic voting" dissolves support for the smaller parties which in turn leads to their eventual dissolution, and then voila, you end up like the states where the larger left-wing party ends up losing support amongst it's own base in pleas to appeal to Conservatives driving the overton window to the right.

EDIT: Quickly adding to this comment that if the Liberal candidate for my riding doesn't explicitly come out in support for proportional representation, I will be throwing my vote elsewhere. Sent an email, and keeping an eye on public events.

I mean, if they bothered to run a candidate in my riding...

Quite literally unbelievable. They say on their site they have a candidate for my riding, I reach out and email the given contact on their site offering to volunteer, I get zero response, and then find out Canada's Future can run a candidate here, but not them. Borderline pathetic.

Oops, thought that at first, but seems I got my brain in a twist and got the mental math wrong somehow. Thanks for the clarification!

I wasn't aware we had any footwear brands here! Thanks, I'll keep this in mind for when I need to get a pair.

If you're a tomato juice enjoyer, the No Name tomato juice is just as good as the Heinz tomato juice. While Heinz tomato juice is made in Canada, I'd much rather not fork my money to an American brand, even if the No Name stuff could possibly be from the same production facility.

Unless you're opting for a low-salt diet, I'd suggest avoiding the PC Blue Menu one though. The lack of salt means the drink tastes a lot more bland, and I personally put it to waste as much as I hate to say.

Selling these things individually isn't all that uncommon. I can't name a single grocer in my area that refuses to sell bars like these individually.

Protein bars are often sold in the same area of grocery stores with options to purchase either individual bars as a pick-me-up snack or by the box for the pantry. They do the same with similar things like Cliff and RX bars so these being sold individually as well comes as no surprise.

I made this community about a week or so ago on the Lemmy.ca to help promote Canadian music and musicians. Been posting each day, with features in the community such as a ListenBrainz playlist for songs shared in the community, weekly featured artists, and weekly discussion posts (currently paused until Monday to sync it with the start of the week).

This is something I'm incredibly passionate about. Canada has a lot of music talent that is overlooked, and while the amount of Canadian music talent has done nothing but grow, the discoverability for Canadian musicians has faltered in recent years with the decline in local Canadian music publications.

Please come in and share tunes from Canadian musicians, inform people of music tours occurring in Canada, and showcase Canadian music news and magazine articles!

Hi all! Been thinking of making this community for a few days now seeing there weren't any Flexitarian communities on Lemmy.

I've been trying to go vegan for some time now, but it's been a bit of a struggle balancing out the diet and other personal values I hold. Tariffs have gotten me wanting to purchase more stuff made here in Canada, which has made utilizing some vegan substitutes a pain, and it pains me seeing foods made with meat go to waste, as it feels as though an animal would have died for nothing, let alone what I perceive to be people's selfish desire for meat at the expense of an animal's life and suffering.

My reasons may differ from others, and I really hope that this community can foster some genuine, respectful conversation as to what reasons people follow flexitarianism, and the differences in lifestyle choices people make and why. I hope to make this community one that fosters positive vibes and interactions, and look forward to seeing what others have to share!

Pegmode hails from Edmonton! Please give the album a full listen, it's incredible!

Thanks to @[email protected] for the suggestion!

This playlist will encompass all individual tracks shared here in the Maple Music community. I chose ListenBrainz as the place to host it as MetaBrainz is a non-profit organization despite being in the U.S., it has the perk of being able to add music from any platform to the playlist, and one can play songs in the playlist directly on the playlist page using the YouTube embed the site provides.

While ListenBrainz does have these perks, it by no means is perfect either. In creating the playlist I had to create new entries for some of the songs and their respective releases on MusicBrainz. That in itself isn't an issue, however, tracks that are newly added to MusicBrainz may display as blank in the playlist temporarily before appearing the same way other entries do.

Also, the YouTube embed feature isn't exactly perfect either. Sometimes the wrong video will be grabbed from YouTube. This is especially the case with really underground music, where there may not be uploads on YouTube. For electronic music, I've found it to be the case that videos of rhythm games such as osu! and BeatSaber may appear instead of the song itself.

Happy listening!

Cousin Harley is a wonderful Blues band that hails from Vancouver! Please give their stuff a listen, it's genuinely all incredible.
