On a scale of 1 to Goatse, this is barely a Two Girls, One Cup.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 11 points 11 months ago

Not even a Tubgirl.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's important to remember that goatse was a series of photos.

Let that stew a bit.

Think about how old those girls would be now. Probably grandmothers.

I found rotten.com when I was like 11 or 12, I was desensitised early to shit like this.

Early internet is why us millennials are so fucked in the head.

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 23 points 11 months ago

I bonded with my wife over things like rotten.com in college. Neither of us are into anything like that, Not Kink shaming just saying It was a cultural experience.

I take it back if you're into violence i am kink shaming that.

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 3 points 11 months ago

Same but tbh I quickly grew out of that shit and stopped seeking it out pretty early as well.

I don’t know who watched this as a kid. One of my first internet cartoons. Loved it!

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 20 points 11 months ago

It was quite revolutionizing if you ask me. While it often had to buffer a bit, it was amazing how smooth the animation, sound and music was using nothing but 56k modem at the time. And then there was the gore and mental scaring, but besides that, amazing!

Nah, we got started with REJECTED by Herzfeldt.

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 36 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Don't tempt them, I've only just cleaned that mess up.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 38 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Oh, yea ummm

I'll leave the eyes gowron to protect the instance

[–] Emperor@feddit.uk 9 points 11 months ago

Problems averted.

Ah man, the old IRC days were something else. Unchecked piracy, access to just about everything anyone could want, but then you also had unsolicited DMs with cp. And if you dropped your firewall for even a minute, you'd be cleaning up virus infections because Windows 95/98 practically invited people inside.

I literally watched a guy die on the shroomery's IRC.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Brandon_Vedas

And as was the style at the time, we figured he was fucking with us or assed out, and went on with our day.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 11 months ago

"I told u I was hardcore"

Oh that's where that's from

[–] RedSnt@feddit.dk 4 points 11 months ago

Unchecked piracy, ew, where? Here?

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 22 points 11 months ago (2 children)

oh yeah i'm totally desensitized.

it started with goatse then continued on through lemonparty and bluewaffle and it only got worse from there.

i have, and i'm not even really kidding about this, developed a religious fixation where if there's a video of someone dying i am spiritually required to watch because i can at least symbolically bear witness to what they've been through and ensure that at least vicariously they did not go through it alone ._.

I was so scared of seeing the image and was just like "meh". Then reverse image searched it to see the source and still felt like the stuff I was looking at wasn't real.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 19 points 11 months ago

I actively sought out shit like that in those days, when I was a teenager. That morbid curiosity isn't there anymore.

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

People today think a reference to loss is massive psychological trauma... Unless you have after images in your head for the next few days, it doesn't even register.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

I'm pretty sure the reactions to loss are meming on the reactions to the actually traumatic content of the older internet

[–] Trincapinones@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

What happened?

EDIT: If anyone is as lost as me here's some info: https://downonthestreet.eu/post/69636

[–] OmegaLemmy@discuss.online 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm kinda scared to check my messages even though it's probably deleted and that I actually saw worse shit, which I won't talk about since it is a trigger to a lot of people

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Yea you most likely did, fair warning, it might be deleted live but depending on your app/UI it might still show in the inbox. That's how I saw it, Boost had it still cached in the inbox

[–] callyral@pawb.social 4 points 11 months ago

what happened? has it not hit me yet or did i just click "mark all as read" before the image could load?

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 months ago

The spammer really needs help!

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 months ago

Give me some low fi beats with a jump scare randomly in it
