Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Now we're mixing the leadership of law enforcement and military.

In other news, armed minorities are harder to suppress.

Why does everything they do feel like it’s just another step in their plan that ends with all of us dead, all of our wealth stolen by them and all of our daughters forced birthing their rape babies?

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Jokes on them, I've never had wealth or any prospects of having children.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Jokes on you. Your wealth exists. It’s just already been stolen.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I come from a long line of poors. If there was any wealth stolen it was before the founding of America.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 2 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Your data is worth millions of dollars to businesses.

That is yours.

Yet they pay each other for your stuff.

I’m telling you, your wealth is being stolen every day.

You only believe you’re poor because you're convinced your property belongs to someone else.

You aren’t poor, your wealth has been stolen from you.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

The collective data of everyone is worth millions. My personal data is a few cents at best.

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Facebook with a few hundred million users is worth 1.5T. That’s one company. That’s the obvious one.

Your data gets sold over and over and over and over.

Other people are stealing your data (wealth you don’t realize is worth millions) and letting some asshole convert it into their own personal cash machine.

All under the guise of “meh it’s only a few cents”

What a load of horse hockey that doesn’t hold up to basics scrutiny.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

The value of a company is just made up bullshit. It has nothing to do with the value of any one person's data.

[–] Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Your use of the service is in exchange for your data...

[–] PunkRockSportsFan@fanaticus.social 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah. That’s the grift.

Because it is, and I keep getting deleted for pointing out that a bunch of stupid fucking signs isn't going to cut it.

I keep getting deleted for pointing out that a bunch of stupid fucking signs isn’t going to cut it.

Well you're certainly standing up to the authoritarians by telling people not to make their voices heard. /s

What are YOU doing then? Should I watch the evening news tonight opening to see you marching into a government building?

[–] imrighthere@lemmy.ca 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

When you put boots in my country, I will do my part, and it won't be with a fucking sign.

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 18 points 11 months ago (1 children)

From context and from your Lemmy instance I'm assuming you're in Canada?

When you put boots in my country

Okay, so that hasn't happened yet. So you want nothing done until then? Those of us on the USA side that love Canada should just shut up and not protest when I see trump threatening my brothers and sisters in Canada?

If you're curious, my protest sign was "Hands off Canada!". You're saying I should have stayed home instead?

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 23 points 11 months ago (3 children)

The abrupt change in leadership comes at a time when senior Justice Department officials are weighing whether to merge the ATF with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration as part of an effort to cut costs.

Merging the departments together under GOP control, really? They'll have to rename the departments then. These jokes write themselves.

Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms or DAFT?

[–] Rekhyt@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

No, they need to put it in order of how much they love it: Firearms, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drugs. They're getting some FAT D

[–] mctoasterson@reddthat.com 1 points 11 months ago

ATF literally already has a division named this.

Firearms and Ammunition Technology Division (FATD).

They do "testing" on commercial products and in recent years they've mostly been tasked with railroading people who didn't do anything.

The entire Bureau should be shut down and replaced with a hot dog stand.

The saying about ATF was that it sounded like a convenience store rather than a govt agency. I guess adding drugs just makes it better.

Note that the Secretary of the Army is a civilian position. (The current secretary is Dan Driscoll, who is an Army veteran, though only as a 1LT from 2007-2011.)

Never jump straight to boiling the frog. Raise the temperature in increments.
