Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

your comment is toxic because you employ the rhetoric of a middleschooler while acting like you’re on the high road here. growup and do better plz
I'm out there protesting. The person I'm talking to is telling me not to. Asking what their effective alternative is when we clearly both want a free and sovereign nation of Canada is a perfectly legitimate question. So far their only reply is to say effectively "when it gets worse, I'll do something". I'm not content to wait until Canada is invaded to show my opposition through my voice.
Can I ask what your suggestion to receive an answer of alternative action besides protesting at this point, or are you qualifying that as a toxic question too?
Please acknowledge the smug petulant tone of your comments here. The other guy said that sternly worded signs don’t change much. I feel the same way. There are few people in positions to affect change right now—namely our politicians and other people of high social status such as celebrities or athletes, yet they’re as comfy as anyone. If other guy were actually planning any substantial resistance, this is not the place to share it. You are nipping at the people on your own side like a dumb little anklebiting dog and deserve a kick for it.
Do you think my tone is out-of-place in the context of this discussion from the other participants? Are you giving them a pass but for some reasons holding me to higher standard of discussion?
That's not what he said. He said "bunch of stupid fucking signs isn’t going to cut it." Does that not carry the voice of condescension or being smug?
Well, you're welcome to your opinion, and apparently, your inaction just like that person. If you don't think protesting is going to make a difference, you don't have to protest. That's your right, even if I disagree with you about your responsibility as a citizen to make your voice heard in our democracy (assuming you're American). However, telling me to be silent doesn't seem very useful or logical. This is especially true when I'm not seeing any other action advocated by them or you except the idea of "don't protest".
Wait, so you're saying the appropriate action is to go from absolutely no public protests to something so big that you fear substantial retaliation by the government? You're going to go from 0-100 MPH (or km/h as we're also talking about Canada here) with nothing in between?
Did you forget the starting point of this conversation was the person saying "bunch of stupid fucking signs isn’t going to cut it."? Is there a reason that that gets a free pass by you, but a response to that doesn't?
That sounds rather smug doesn't it? So is that now okay too? Whats with all of your double standards?
